Introduction

Nigerians voted for change in the general elections of 2015. That much is clear but
it is also clear that a genuine transformation of Nigerian society must necessarily
involve radical changes in the psyche and attitudes of the average Nigerian.
To that end, patriotic Nigerians must design an educational strategy or campaign to
achieve the following objectives:
1. Provide political education to the greatest number of Nigerians in an organised
and structured format.
2. Establish a platform to promote unity and organisation for national
development.
3. Encourage patriotism and a better understanding of Nigeria for nation building
and national development.
4. Create an interactive forum to facilitate direct communication between
agencies of the Nigerian government and ordinary Nigerians at home and
abroad.
5. Consolidate the current momentum for change and public support for the new
administration.
The most effective way to achieve these objectives is through the media to be more
specific, by the means of an internet radio station.
The Project
The aim of this project is to establish an internet radio station which will broadcast
programs to a global audience of Nigerians on Sundays. By restricting broadcasts to
Sundays, we expect to maintain the novelty and impact of these programs with a view
to cultivating the devotion of our listeners a devotion that will be similar or
comparable to Christian congregations on Sundays and Muslim congregations on
Fridays.
We envisage that the station will broadcast 8-12 hours of live and recorded
programmes. Core programming will include:
A weekly analysis of news and current affairs (in Africa and the world)
In depth analysis of news and current affairs in Nigeria
Civics and nation building lectures
History lessons (on Nigeria, Africa and other parts of the world)
Interviews with government officials about policies, initiatives and proposals
(with the provisional title of Buhari and Co)
A Phone In programme featuring responses and feedback from ordinary
Nigerians in regards to the implementation and impact of government policies
(The Peoples Parliament)
A weekly debate on topical issues
Interviews with youth corpers in each of the 36 states (about their personal
stories/history, assignments and experience of the state in which they serve)
Public service announcements.

Additional progammes could feature quiz shows, polls and surveys, programmes in
Pidgin English and discussion of relevant material on the internet and social media.
Please note that internet radio affords station managers and producers with the
opportunity to broadcast simultaneously on an unlimited number of websites (and
thereby reach the greatest number of listeners within a target audience). For the
purposes of this project, the cooperation and involvement of the most popular
Nigerian websites will be required.
The audio stream (radio station) will also be available on Blackberry, Android and
IOS platforms. In other words, it will be accessible to smartphone users.
Features and Benefits of the Project
1. Educates and empowers the average Nigerian.
2. Provides the average Nigerian with an opportunity to contribute to nation
building and national development.
3. Targets a specific and significant demographic of the Nigerian population, ie
young and technologically proficient Nigerians.
4. Provides the government with a campaigning platform to engage with ordinary
Nigerians and streamline its communication strategy (like the TSA re
government finances).
5. Offers a platform to opposition parties and government critics.
6. Provides a regular meeting place and time for Nigerians at home and abroad.
7. Demonstrates an effective model of public-private partnership for national
development.
8. Creates a database and archive of knowledge and information for national
development.
9. Highlights the cost effectiveness of internet radio for nation building and
national development (technical costs of this project amount to less than
$1200 per year).
10. The audio stream can be broadcast and networked on terrestrial radio stations
including radio stations in APC states.
11. The intellectual development of our target audience encourages the prospect
that they will filter knowledge and information to less educated Nigerians.
Partnerships
A project of this nature and magnitude will require the collaboration of many parties.
These include:
1. The Federal Government of Nigeria (Presidency, the Ministries of
Information, Education and Youth Development; National Orientation
Agency).
2. State governments and radio stations under their control.
3. Political parties in Nigeria
4. Private radio stations

5. The most popular Nigerian websites (Google Nigeria, Vanguard, Punch, Jumia
etc).
6. Internet service providers (who could be encouraged to provide free internet
access to Nigerians on Sundays in exchange for tax breaks or tax relief).
7. The National Youth Service Corps
8. The Nigerian Bar Association (for a supply of skilled debaters)
9. Donors and contributors
Funding
This initiative could be funded by a government agency/ministry, advertising revenue
or donations at fundraising events.
