I.

Background of the Study

The study of how a sport can affect the people around that sport is not new at all because of
all the researcher in foreign countries have carefully studied the enthusiasts and die-hard fans of
any sport but in the Philippines this study is fairly new. For the researchers here acclaim more to
the study of politics that affect the people but they overlook the study of sport in the Philippines
because any sport can also affect the politics of the country because the people idolize these
athletes and will follow the advices and ideas given by these athletes even if it is about politics,
personal grooming and many other things that are important to the daily lives of us Filipinos. By
giving a brief background of the sports that were introduced here in the Philippines it will show
how the Filipinos idolize and sometimes worship the sport and its athletes.
In the history of the Philippines it was occupied by three countries at their time were
considered superpowers of the world. The First country to occupy the Philippines is the country
of Spain, Spain brought Christianity and education to the Philippine islands with their occupation
lasting three hundred thirty three years the Spaniards introduced the sport of football to the
Filipino people. Football at that time was a popular sport for the neighbors of the Philippines. At
that time also football became a popular sport among the Filipinos with all the football craze
happening in the Philippine islands it produced one of the FC Barcelonas best player Paulo
Alcantara he is considered as one of the best strikers and goal scorer of FC Barcelona and is the
only Filipino to be able to play for a European team. With the help of Spain and the resources
they provided the Philippine football team became very successful in winning international
games and earning prestige for the country. (Alcazeren, Paulo ,2011)

This showed the love of the Filipino people for the sport of football and the support they give
to the players competing in international matches. This love for the sport can still be seen during
the modern days Filipino fans sometimes paint the Philippine flag on their faces to show moral
support to the athletes representing their country. Thousands of Filipino fans line up in stadiums
to watch a match between the Philippine team and the visiting team they fully support the team
which helps them in winning games and earning prestige for the country and the people with
winning matches it gives the Filipinos a very good morale boost to be productive in the things
they do because of the esteem they have gained by winning a international match. (Alcazeren,
Paulo ,2011)
After the Americans bought the Philippine islands from Spain football was still a widely
popular sport for the Filipino people but overtime it was overshadowed by the sport of basketball
which was brought by the Americans. The sport of Basketball was virtually non-existent in the
Philippines because of the Spanish influence of Football and other sports. The Filipinos had
other forms of sports and social gambling that occupied their extra time some even practiced the
art of arnis which dominated the sporting environment of the Philippines. (Velasco, B. 2013)
After the birth of basketball in the Philippines a national team was formed. The Philippines
dominated the tournaments in their part of Asia wining all gold medals during their run.
During that time Universities in the Philippines also began to embrace the sport of basketball
they incorporated the sport into their curriculum and two leagues for the college division was
created. During the height of fame of basketball, basketball courts can be found at almost every
street around the manila and everyone is talking about basketball. Basketball is a very important
part of the daily lives of the Filipinos when the championship title is on the line thousands of

fans line up outside coliseums so that they can but tickets and get to watch their favorite
basketball players play the game. Wining a basketball title can also boost the morale of a person
especially if a university wins the U.A.A.P. title this gives the students a morale boost. (Velasco,
B. 2013)
Sports here in the Philippines can be a useful tool in building friendships between people
because any sport can have a healthy competitive rivalry between two parties and their fans they
give their everything during games and try to win the match but after the match they are friends
and there are no hard feelings between each player and each fan of the team.
Another sport that is very popular in the Philippines is the sport of boxing. Boxing became
popular due to the fame of Manny Pacquaio who broke a lot of records in the boxing world and
beaten almost every challenger that he faced. The people in the Philippines are so in love with
Manny Pacquiao that when he has a fight the streets here in the Philippines are almost empty and
according to the police the crime rate goes down in the city of manila. (Nathanielsz, R. 2012)
The athletes of these sports can also be very helpful in promoting awareness to their fans
they can help promote the awareness of global warming and other social issues that are very
important to the country. Athletes can be convincing to their fans because they provide the fans
the symbols they need in their life. They can help in promoting awareness in diseases an example
of this is when Magic Johnson contracted H.I.V. AIDS and he announced that he had that disease
his fans and the people became aware of that disease and that even the rich and famous can
contract the disease. Magic Johnson created the Magic Johnson Foundation after his
announcement of contracting AIDS that will help in providing health services and other
necessities to the people in need. (MJF, 2013)

When the Americans arrived here in the Philippines they used the sport of basketball to
develop the country because they believed that the sport can help the Philippines for it builds
camaraderie between its participants and by holding tournaments all around the country the
Filipinos will get to know each other through the sport and their productivity will increase
because of the connections they made through basketball.(Velasco, B. 2013)
The U.N. see any sport as a good tool for nation building because of the bond it develops
between the players of each team and the healthy competition it provides the people so they can
see who is better between both of their teams.
Sports are widely popular and can be easily understood by the people in which ever
background they came from even if they came from the marginalized sector or the rich one
percent of the Philippines population.
Sports can be used in obtaining peace objectives because of the promise of physical activity
and to realize that everyone that is part of the society has the right to play any sport they choose
and so that they can develop the characteristics that emerge when playing basketball or football.
Sports can also be combined with non-sporting events so that their effectiveness can be
improved. National and local offices should actively cooperate so that developmental peace and
awareness can be reinforced in their society and so that the participants of the sport can be
empowered in doing their daily task in their life. Sports also promote the collaborative action of
the community in making decisions that are urgently needed by the community.
Partnership is also promoted through any sport because of the bond the players build with
each other. Sports cannot function alone to solve social problems but instead it should be used as

tool for developmental practices and should be applied with other programs so good results will
be seen and achieved.
This study will hopefully introduce to the people here in the Philippines Sports that can help
boost the camaraderie between the people that can help them in building connections that can be
very useful in the years to come.

II.

Research Problem

With the rise of Fame of Football in the Philippines and the immense popularity of
Basketball in the professional league and the intercollegiate league how will these athletes
present the idea of social awareness to the people here in the Philippines.
The Main Question of this research is:
How effective can the sport of basketball and football promote peace and awareness locally
here in the Philippines?
Subordinate Questions:

How will the Personal biases of the athlete affect his or her presentation of some

local issues to the people in the Philippines?

How popular must an athlete be in order for the citizens to listen to him or her?
How long will it take for the people to listen and find solutions to the social

problems that might be raised to them by these athletes?

What other way can the athletes help in community development

III.

Scope and limitations

This study aims to see if there is room for developing countries such as the Philippines to use
a sport in promoting camaraderie and productivity between its citizens and to see if one starts
playing these sports at a young age will they take the traits they develop until they grow older.
But the study must be made with the timeframe of 3 years minimum because this will be long
enough for the researcher to carefully study and observe the people involved.
Organizations that hold clinics and tournaments will be interviewed on how they will help
those who will win the tournaments they hold all over the country and Metro Manila. The
organizations will also be asked to interview their participants of their tournaments and ask them
how the sport has helped them in their lives.
The places to be studied are the places here in Metro Manila particularly: The greater
part of Quezon City and its barangays, Mandaluyong City particularly the part of LaSalle
Greenhills because of the football and basketball clinics they hold yearly, The Manila area
especially tondo because of Futkal which was started there by Peter Amores in two thousand
twelve. The study will only take up a year or a year and a half so all of the sporting clinics that
emerge can be seen and studied thoroughly and the people involved can be interviewed on how
they help the people they interact with during the said clinics.
This study maybe somewhat similar to the studies conducted in South Africa but the
environment is different. Because South Africa has a lot of available resources for their sporting
activities because of their large land mass they have a lot of football stadiums that pass
international standards. They hold international Football Matches and they hosted the FIFA
World cup last 2010.

The Researcher must overcome Misinterpretation the audience might not properly
interpret the issues that will be given to them, some might choose to ignore it because they might
consider it not their business this will prove very challenging to the Athletes and must come up
with a way to overcome this factor.
Another hindrance on this study can be the unavailability of football fields here in the
country because of the high maintenance cost of the fields some well-known schools only have it
and other people who love to play football will be constrained to play in basketball courts or they
can play futkal. The aim of this study is to really see how a sport can easily integrate itself inside
the lives of people in developing countries here in the world starting with the Philippines.
Developing countries will also benefit from this study because they will see on how to properly
tackle the sporting world when it is introduced to them.

IV.

Significance of the study

This study is made for the knowledge of the younger generation and those in the government
who plan in using any sport in building bonds between the people of the barangays. This study
also aims to see if the characteristics developed can be useful to the younger generation who will
grow up and be part the of workforce of the country. This study will show them on how to
properly interact with the people in the sporting clinics they hold.
In our modern time the craze of fitness is one of the main concerns of the people and when
that is combined with the good ideas of some politicians who are planning to actively cooperate

and help with the building process of the country they can develop very good results that can
both benefit the citizens and the country.
According to an Article Published by the United Nations titled Sport as a tool for
development and Peace: Towards Achieving the united nations millennium development Goals
It said that Many of the core values inherent in sport are compatible with the principles
necessary for development and peace, such as fair play, co-operation, sharing and respect. The
life skills learned through the sport help enable individuals and enhance psychosocial well-being,
such as increased resiliency, self-esteem and connections with others. These features of sport are
beneficial to people of all ages, but they are especially vital to the healthy development of young
people.
Sports as said above can also be a very powerful tool in nation building because of the
cooperation it can build between the people of the country and the healthy rivalries it develops
between the people involved.
The Main aim of this study is to see how the people will react to the social issues that will be
raised and discussed to them by the popular athletes here in the Philippines. This study is made
for the benefit of the younger generation of Filipinos that can solve the rampant social issues that
are affecting the Filipino Community here in the Philippines.

V.

Theoretical Framework.

Figure 1 A simple diagram of Communication Theory used by classrooms all around the U.S.
Communication Theory according to Paul Craig is a dialogical-dialectical field with two
principles the constitutive model of communication and the metadiscursive practice. With the
Talks the athletes will hold with the sport clinics they will conduct they can properly address the
issues to the people especially to the younger minds of the country.
The diagram shows how the process of communication works but it sometimes fails
because the receiver might miss interpret the ideas that will be said to them and will sometimes
miss the important parts of the Talks given by the athletes.

VI.

Conceptual Framework.

10

Figure 2. Giving out of information by the Athletes

In this diagram it will show how the Athlete or speaker will give his/her talks to the
attendees of the sports clinic he/she will hold in the following years. With the People listening
attentively to the speaker and gaining knowledge about the social issues that he/she will raise
during the talks.(Craig, P. 2006) With the people idolizing these athletes they will certainly heed
the words of these athletes but it still will depend on the people on how they will act on these
issues the talks can have either a Negative or Positive result on the people. They can either
choose to act on these issues or ignore them it will strongly depend on the people listening. The
Athletes will stress out the points to camaraderie and other factors that will promote strong bonds
between the people and effective solutions that will someday help solve the social issues that are
concerning the Filipino People in this time. They will also point out factors that will be very
effective in building a nation

In this Chapter it will show the studies and books that will greatly help the researcher in
promoting Social awareness, Peace and Forging Strong Bonds between the people in the
Philippines. The Books will show how to effectively remove the factions between the people in
the Philippine islands and how to effectively build a Nation.

Nation Building
Building a nation is a long and a hard task because of the endless rounds of revolts and
wars that a nation may be dragged into but in this time of ours wars are no longer popular. The
wars now mainly consist of how to make money and be economically powerful compared to
another nation.(Deutsch K., Foltz, W. 2010)
The government of a nation must also put up an administration or program that will
control the people to quote the statement of Professor Friedrich:
An Integrated national identity may be too ambitious a goal for the new nations
emphasizes, as do the leaders of these countries themselves, that their immediate task is the
establishment of a strong governmental apparatus able to serve and control the population.
(Friedrich, 2010).
With this statement a nation that is starting must first build an institution that will be able
to control its populace this is where the sport of Basketball or Football comes in because a sport
can convince the people of a nation in joining together and playing and celebrating the sport of
basketball or football this phenomena was used by Nelson Mandela in building the nation of
South Africa because of the oppression of the White man to the black people Nelson Mandela

13

used the sport of rugby that is loved by both races in the country in making them come together
as one nation of South Africa.
The Departments of State and Defense and the White House have all taken
initiatives to build U.S. capacity to conduct nation-building operations. The Department of
Defense has issued a directive making stability operations, that departments term for nationbuilding, a core mission for the U.S. military, henceforth supposedly to receive the same priority
as preparation for major combat. (Dobbin, Jones, Crane, Degrasse, 2007).
In the Beginners Guide to Nation Building, it showed the research that point out the
United States as not a fully developed nation. The United States was the one who launched
missions throughout the world mostly for peacekeeping purposes through this the country has
neglected in overseeing the citizens of the nation. After the decline of the American nation its
governmental institutions accepted the fact that Nation Building must be put in the forefront of
the priorities of the country. (Dobbin, Jones, Crane, Degrasse, 2007).
Because of the decline of the United States for the failures they experienced during the
time they gone to war with other countries and the peacekeeping missions they participated in
with the help of the United Nations. The United States then used a professional approach in
nation building to properly build their nation.
Francis Fukuyama made a basic guide in nation building he used the Bush Administration
as an example because of some of the problems the bush administration encountered because of
their invasion of Iraq. After the War they did not plan on how to function and the nation of Iraq
fell down with the army melting away and the police not functioning anymore. The officials

14

were blamed for the failure because of their failure in planning contingencies after the invasion.
(Fukuyama, F. 2004)
Another factor would be is that the United States deployed only a small army that was
insufficient in spreading around the country of Iraq and even if the deployed troops would be
enough army troops will still not be prepared in controlling civilian disturbances because of their
heavy use of force.
The Americans did not follow on how they built the nation of the Philippines by using a
sport to control the populace but due to some factors that are different from the Philippines
which caused the Americans to deviate from their path of using a sport as a tool for nation
building.
James Morrel, Rachel Neild and Hugh Byrne explained how the U.N. helped rebuild
Haiti in their time of catastrophe. In the First phase of Nation building of Haiti was good with the
deployment of 20,000 troops to Haiti. Without the troops there was no order in Haiti only chaos
but with the deployment of United Nations Troops and American Troops order was returned to
Haiti. Humanitarian Aid was given to Haiti for them to rebuild their economy and function again
properly. But due to the non-functioning government of Haiti the aid that was being given to
them was almost lost.(Morrel J., Neild R., Byrne H. 1995).
The Philippines can set this as a guide on how to properly tackle the Humanitarian Aid
that will be given to the Philippines in case a major catastrophe happens in the country

15

Natalie Koch explained that violence is not needed in controlling a country and any kind
of sport can be used to maintain control effectively:
Authoritarian Regimes have an interest in promoting elite and mass sports because of the nation
building capacity it has and the discipline and respect it can produce for the people in power.
(Koch, 2013)
This strategy is only used by soft authoritarianism because authoritarianism uses violence
and other tactics that show their power to the people so they can stay in power they solely rely on
violent tactics unlike soft authoritarianism that will use sports to maintain power because of the
capacity it has in building bonds and friendship between the people of the nation.(Koch, 2013)
To quote the author directly:
I argue that nation-building through state promotion of sport illustrates the ways that
soft authoritarian regimes such as that of Nursultan Nazarbayev perpetuate their rule. Adding
nation-building as the sixth tool in the Schatz''s (2009) soft authoritarian toolkit, I demonstrate
through discourse analysis and focus group research, how the nationalist performances
surrounding elite sport are fundamental to allowing ordinary people to see their everyday
practices and support for the nation as something objective, rather than intimately tied to the
system of unequal power relations perpetuated by the ruling regime. (Koch, 2013)
The American occupation of the Philippines can be considered as a soft authoritarianism
because they did not use violent tactics in maintaining power over the Philippines but they used
sports and other tactics that did not involve violence to control the country.

16

SPORTS:
Grant Jarvie and James Thornton showed us why the government must invest in sports
for their country. Any sport can act as a resource of hope for the people of a nation. Jarvie
showed us the sport environment of the Celtic, British, South African and Chinese with the
studies he previously conducted in the world.
One must focus on individualism because as jarvie believes that it dominates the sporting
world and it has two forms Methodological individualism and Individualization (Jarvie, G.
2006). To directly quote the article about Individualism
One important feature is a sceptic view on individualism, which at present is dominating
large parts of sociology and of sports studies. Sociological individualism which may be a
contradiction in itself is widespread in two forms, either as methodological individualism or as
the substantial thesis of individualization (Jarvie, 2006).
He explains all the factors that contribute to the inter human relations and that with sports
knowledge leads to action and how a society can be helpful to each other with and how the
movement of sports will empower the powerless in the world and how a country can be
recognized with the use of a sport. (Jarvie 2006)
In the book of John Kramer et al. entitled Key Concepts in Sport Psychology showed
how the spectators or fans of a sport are affected when their favorite team loses a game
especially crucial games that could either cause them to win the title of lose it to their enemy
team. The factors of these is the group affiliation or team identification and the loyalty of the fan
is due to the success of the team because fans will bask in the reflected glory(Mahony et al.

17

2000) of his or her favorite team. This loyalty can be seen in the movie Invictus the fierce
loyalty of the fans of the South African Team helped them in becoming one nation that have no
racial boundaries between its citizens because of the sport of rugby that brought them together.
But Fan loyalty can have a disadvantage which is the violence that they can cause
between them and the fans of the rival team because of the fierce competition of the two teams
and sometimes alcohol drinking during games can cause unwanted violence of the spectators or
fans especially if their favorite team loses the championship game.
Bob Levin narrates on how the sport of basketball entered the Canadian borders with the
team expansion of the National Basketball Association or N.B.A. the arrival of the Toronto
Raptors the author predicted that the Canadian nation will take basketball as a second language
other than the popular sport of Hockey in Canada. (Levin, B. 1995)
This also happened to the Philippines when the Americans came in and occupied the
country of the Philippines. The Philippines was engrossed with the sport of football during that
time and winning international games within Southeast Asia they introduced the sport of
basketball around the country with every school participating in the sport of basketball the
Philippine nation immediately fell in love with the sport of Basketball. The Philippine Basketball
Association was then created for the nation with 10 teams in its current roster and the love of the
Filipino citizens for the sport caused the sport to be played all around the country with basketball
courts sprouting in every corner of the country.
The Americans used the sport of basketball as a tool for nation building because they
believed that with the use of the sport they can entice the Filipinos to play and forge bonds

18

between the people they play with. Strong bonds that will help them in life and be unified as one
country.
John Savant compared sports to Greek tragedy because the author believes that we invest
in sports our attention and emotional intensity ant our seeming proportion to their civic or moral
relevance (Savant, 2003). Just like the Greeks during the early ages they emotionally invested in
the tragic stories made by the renowned authors of Greece and sometimes left the reader
heartbroken because of the tragedy done to the characters they invested in.
As said in the Article:
Both Sport and Tragedy generally leave their audiences intact. They ritualize rather than
actualize violence, thus alerting us to, rather than bringing about, the tragic possibilities inherent
in such pursuits as fame, success, dominance, pleasure and the like. It is this ritualistic function, I
believe, that explains and justifies our fascination with both social functions. (Savant, 2003)
Both Sport and Greek Tragedy command attention because of the intensity and feeling of
both of the social functions (Savant, 2013).
Randolph Feezell pointed out that people who tend to seek out new stories for their lives
go to sports because of the immense feeling they get when watching sports and they closely
associate themselves with the narrative of sports.(Feezell ,R. 2005) As the author said that sports
is psychologically fit in curing despair because of its therapeutic effect on people.
With sports people will be able to realize new identities for themselves in the world so
they can write new stories for their life.

19

Since Persons find aesthetic quality intrinsically satisfying and since persons need
stories in order to experience life as having some shape, pattern, or end. It is natural that so many
people would be drawn to sport not merely because of a thirst for victory, a desire to make other
submit or the need to be excellent.(Feezel, R. 2005)
People here in the Philippines tend to participate in sports so that they can bring color to
their own lives because of the dull moments they have in their life they believe that sports can
bring some new things to their life.

SPORTS AND DEVELOPMENT

Chris Gratton, Simon Shilbi and Richard Coleman explained on how the investment in a
sport in a country can attract the local citizens to participate in the sport. When they participate
the citizens build friendships and bonds between the people they play with. But during these
modern times the main goal of the investment of the sporting industry is to attract tourists. They
explained that Manchester invested 200 million euros on sporting venues for the upcoming
games that they will host. They will lose some money but the city will greatly benefit with the
investments made by the foreign investors and the tourists that will attend the sporting events.
(Gratton C. et al. 2005)
To directly quote the article it said that:
Even with such Mega-events such as the Formula 1 Grand prix and the Olympics, it is
not always an unequivocal economic benefit to the cities that host the event. The Emphasize that
in general staging major sporting events often result in the losing of money by the authorities
20

even though the city itself benefits greatly in terms of additional spending in the city (Mules,
Faulkner, 2005).
The Philippines cannot do this because of the limited resources that are available to the
Filipinos. They can only host international Football games with the stadiums that have all passed
the international standards of the football world.
This shows us how people emotionally invest in sports especially the die-hard fans of
some sporting teams in the world and in the Philippines and how they gat emotionally affected
when their team loses a game or wins a game.
Tien Chan Tan and Alan Bairner explained how China tackled the idea of
Globalization of their football franchise they centralized the powers of the sport leaders in china
and they used out of date soviet models to revitalize some markets in their area. This showed
how china can control the globalization of their country by controlling the influence they would
allow to enter their country. (Tan, T., Bairner A. 2010)
They also allowed the country to exercise its administrative authority to respond to the
problems they encounter during their globalization and they chose to channel their economic
forces in ways favorable to their own interests and also so they can secure favorable gains from
international economic activities going on inside their country.(Tan, T., Bairner A. 2010)
This showed us the capacity of Chinese government on how to tackle the arrival of
international football inside their country and how they exercised their power of choice on the
matters at hand during the globalization process of football in their country.

21

To conclude in this time of the 21st century Fitness craze is all the rage all over the world
because of the attention of the media and how they promote the ideas of fitness all over the world
the fitness craze has recently hit the Philippines with the rise of international sports such as
Football, Basketball with the local teams competing in international competitions all over Asia
and recently with the Philippine Basketball team competing in the FIBA championship this will
result in the rise of fans of the sport even if they might only be Bandwagoners they will still
heed the words of the athletes for their idolization will certainly help the athletes in their quest to
promote Social Awareness all over the islands of the Philippines. With the use of their skill in the
respective Sport Field they have chosen and the Brand Recognition they hold they will be able
to push the agendas in resolving the important issues in the Philippines.

22

Chapter 3 Methodology
This study aims to see how effective a sport and its athletes promote social awareness,
peace and awareness about the local issues that everyone has to face every day here in the
Philippines. This Chapter will show what the researcher must do in order to answer the questions
raised and how he or she will be gathering data during his or her research.
I.

Research

This research is a qualitative one for the research aims to see how effective a sport can
affect the People here in the Philippines and how the athletes promote the social issues they are
tasked to raise to the people here in the country. The researcher must focus on the attendees of
the sports clinics and how they will perceive the issues raised to them and how they will use the
sport in forging bonds and building connections between the people they competed and will
compete will in the future. The Researcher will use all of the methods that are available for a
qualitative research but the researcher must focus on three methods which are Participant
Observation, In- Depth Interviews and Focus group discussions the researcher will use the
survey method to see if the athletes have done their jobs properly and how the sport made an
impact in their life.
Participant observation the researcher will carefully study and observe the people
involved in the sport clinics and how the issues raised to them will affect their life will they
choose to act on it or simply ignore it the researcher must determine this to so he or she may
create solid data on the research. In Depth Interviews and Focus Group discussions can be
connected to participant observation as their results may be the same with each other. The

23

Participant observation is must only limited to the people here in Metro Manila Particularly
schools that offer sport clinics with popular athletes hosting these clinics.
Below this paper will show which parts of Metro Manila the researcher must focus on:
This shows a map of the greater part of Quezon City the researcher will focus on the big
universities for they are the only ones capable of holding the sport clinics for football and
sometimes basketball.

The researcher must also have a library visit to see how many studies have been made about the
topic of Sport as a tool and gain reliable sources to support the claim of the research. The
Researcher must find Historical information about the topic and the researcher will also watch

24

T.V. shows in National Geographic channel Particularly the show Pinoy Hoops for the show
explains how the Americans used Basketball as a tool for nation building.

II.

Data Gathering

The Researcher will conduct the Participant Observation, In Depth Interview and Focus
groups discussions and the surveys method. The Researcher will pick randomly from the
participants of the sport clinics and give them questionnaires to answer on the sport on how the
effective the talk is to them and how the Popularity of the athlete helped in pushing the agenda
on social awareness. The Researcher must also conduct a Participant Observation with a
minimum of 10 participants that he or she must observe for 6 months each to see the impact of
the talk given by the athletes. The researcher must also interview the athletes about their own
view on the issues to see if they have their own biases on some particular issues her in the
Philippines.
With the data collected through the survey questionnaire, interviews and
observation of the participants, the library research of historical and social data will be
thoroughly analyzed and be scrutinized extensively so it can properly supplement the answers
needed in answering the main question and subordinate questions of the research.
