1. You need to study climate change. Which aspect of climate change
will you choose and why? Use examples.
You are given climate as the field of study. Which area will you
prefer? Explain why you picked up the particular area for your study?
All over the world today, it can be observed that the issue of climate change
has grown in importance over the past few decades. Therefore, if I were given
climate as my field of study, I would like to study the underlying causes of this
devastating global phenomenon and possible solutions to tackle this.
To begin with, a variety of reasons can be offered to explain why I would
choose this particular area of study. Foremost among these is the fact that we
have been experiencing the hottest 15 years on record in the last two
decades. Linked to this is the fact that millions are at risk of drought, chronic
water shortages, bushfire, coastal flooding and hazardous air pollution. As the
above-mentioned points make it clear, it can hardly be denied that the issues
of climate change must be addressed with a sense of urgency.
But what really is the proper role for individuals and institutions in addressing
climate change? An immediate and natural response may be that everyone
should do their part. As individuals, we can help by taking action to reduce our
personal carbon emissions. But to fully address the threat of global warming,
we must demand action from our elected leaders to support and implement a
comprehensive set of climate solutions such as transforming our energy
system to a cleaner one, placing limits on the amount of carbon that polluters
are allowed to emit, reducing tropical deforestation and its associated global
warming emissions.
In conclusion, It is my considered opinion that if we were to put in place some
of the solutions mentioned, we would at least be on our way to solving this
problem. Therefore, I would like to play my part to contribute to the solution of
climate change.
3. Education system that assess the student's learning by written
exam is correct? Discuss your view?Sample Answer 1:
Evaluation methods of a students performance has always been an area of
contention around the world. Many believe that this can be done by continual
assessment of their assignments and project work. On the other hand, people

are also in favour of formal examination. I believe the latter is more

appropriate option. This can be proved by analyzing the fact that the
homework and projects done at home can be copied and also memory of a
student can be tested in a formal test only.
Firstly, the work book assignments submitted by the students are not always
done by them. A study by education department of India proved that many
parents help their children in completion of assignments. Not only this, the
projects are also copied in order to submit the same on time. Thus, we can say
that it is not a reliable method to judge student capabilities.
Secondly, the examination that is taken in education institutes make students
learn the concept and also memorize the same that they have studied in their
class. Moreover, these are conducted in the presence of invigilator. Hence,
restricting students to take any external help. This shows how much grasping
power does an individual have. Therefore, this can be considered as a more
reliable method of testing ones ability.
To conclude, looking at the discussion it is clear that advantages of formal
testing outweighs the advantages of testing by assignments and projects. I
believe the method should be implied across the globe and it can be predicted
that many countries will adopt this way of assessment because of its
effectiveness.
5. The only thing that interfere with my leaning is my educationEinstein What does he mean by that? And do you think he is correct?
Some people think it is not necessary for adults to receive education
in class. Self-study is a good way for them to study more effectively.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
When adults choose to study, it is mostly for self-enrichment, for enjoyment or
self-improvement, not to work toward a vocation or degree. They have two
options in front of them. One is to do self study through various resources
such as the internet or libraries and the other is by enrolling in regular classes.
I do agree that self study is more convenient for adults; however, the most
effective approach would be to do major part of the study on ones own and
top it up with a few days in the classroom.
With the help of the Internet self-study can be a very useful way to learn
anything nowadays. There are thousands of resources available on the
Internet that can help one to traverse the ins and outs of any subject. Many

sites also offer video tutorials. By utilizing the vast amounts of teaching
resources as well as authentic materials, such as official online sites of some
universities, one can really develop ones skills independently. Besides the
Internet one can purchase textbooks or borrow books from libraries that can
help in learning about any subject. Finally, self study requires very little
finances and one can also look after family commitments
6. Talk about the pros/cons of this era as is full of daily invention. Any
recent invention that you think proved beneficial or detrimental to
society.
Pros and Cons - InventioTalk about the pros/ cons of this era as is full of daily
inventions
The world that we live in today is full of daily inventions. With globalization
and development inventing and discovering new things have become
imperative. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these
inventions.
To begin with, these inventions have made our lives better and convenient. For
example, the android and smartphones that we use today are beneficial to
everybody. The applications like whatsapp, facebook, emails etc. help us keep
in touch with our friends and relatives. Storing pictures and data has also
become easy and accessible any where we desire. Invention of LED lights help
us save electricity and monthly expenditure on the same. Laptops can be
carried around and used where ever we wish. Flatscreen television sets have
helped to save space and give better picture quality than the older box
televison sets.
Nevertheless, inventions on a daily basis has kept everybody on their toes to
keep themselves updated and learning about them. For example although
smartphones are very convenient the older generation finds it difficult to
operate and with new updates everyday they are reluctant to learn new
things. Continuous usage of cellphones and laptops specially by the young
generation and working people, problems like backache ,
neckpain, blurring of vision and dryness of eyes is on the rise. With the
invention of LED lights and flatscreen television , disposing off the older
tubelights, bulbs and box television set has become a problem as improper
disposal may result in health hazards.
To conclude, although life has become convenient and easy with the use of
new gadgets and appliances , they do not outweigh its disadvantages.

7. In the past 100 years, there are many inventions such as

antibiotics, airplanes and computer. What do you think is the most
important invention for the past 100 years? Why?
It is evident how life has changed since technology has been introduced in the
human life. When we think about technology mostly the first thing that comes
to our mind is the image of a computer. Technological advancements such as
computers have been designed and created with the only purpose to help
humans and make their lives easier. Computers have become indispensable in
any workplace where they are basically considered a compliment for people to
help them on developing their activities. In fact, computers are the greatest
invention of all time because they have multi-tasking features that can
minimize your work, they can display and let you manipulate stored
information, and they are used in almost all fields for any purpose.
First of all computers have multi-tasking features that can minimize the work
you have to do. For example, computers avoid you having to calculate any
result on doing math, the only thing you must do is to type the information
needed and your work is done.
Secondly, computers can display and let you manipulate stored information. In
other words, you dont need to use paper in order to store any information on
shelves. You dont even have to rewrite a whole paper because you did a
mistake or you have to add more information to the written form. You can
have as many files as you can in your computer and organize them the way
you like it without having to use any extra material or space.
Finally, computers are used in almost all fields for any purpose such as
entertainment, education, and any type of job. For example, you can use
computers to play videogames, watch movies, listen to music or chat on the
internet for entertainment. In education or any job you can use them for
videoconferences, PowerPoint presentations or just using their basic features
discussed in the first point.
Therefore computers are the greatest invention of all time because they
reduce your time consumption on your activities, you can save your
information and edit it any time, and they let you do almost everything you
need. Computers have become the most powerful tool ever created.

8. Nowadays TV has become an essential part of life. Medium to

spread news & awareness and for some it acts like a companion.
What is your opinion about this?
Intro:
It is irrefutable to say that, television is one of the most important inventions
of the 21st century. It helps us to see events that take place hundreds and
thousands of kilometers away from us. Some people argue that TV becomes
an indispensable part of our life, while other analysts think opposite to this. I
intent to believe that, television has a pivotal role in our life. Following
paragraphs will assert both sides and deliver appropriate conclusion.
Advantages of TV
Disadvantages of TV
To begin, television helps us to make our life more creative. It provides a wide
range of channels like tourism, travel, foods, lifestyle, news, and many more,
the information broadcasted in these channels is so useful that it helps people
to increase their mental horizon. Moreover, news and discovery programmes
can help to make young people more aware of surroundings. For instance, by
watching discovery channel students could learn lots of things which may help
them in their studies. Also, retired persons who are mostly free can pass their
time by watching television. Thus, television helps every age group in different
ways.
On the other hand, television has some disadvantages too. Firstly, staring at
televisions screen for a long period can be harmful to the eyes and the
nerves. Moreover, children who watch action serials or movies are more
aggressive and start losing their control from themselves. For instance, in
2010 in America, around 20% of juvenile crime made by those children who
watch regularly fighting movies or programmes. Lastly, students waste their
time in front of a television for hours and that really affects on their academic
results.
Conclusion:
To recapitulate, I pen down saying that, TV is a great medium of getting
knowledge and to enhance our mental horizon. But, it should be noted that
excess of every thing is bad. I believe, we should use this device properly to
reduce its side-effects. Government must take initiative to educate people
about its drawbacks.
13. Extreme sports like skiing, water rafting etc etc are dangerous
and should these be banned?

Dangerous activities like extreme skiing, bungee jumping etc. and whether
you support them or not.
Intro:
It is irrefutable to say that, popularity of extreme sports has continued to grow
over the last decade. People would like to do some dangerous sports like
scuba diving, bungee jumping, bull fighting, etc in many countries. I am
inclined to believe that these sports are in fact dangerous and they should not
be promoted (my opinion in intro). This essay will discuss some advantages
and disadvantages of adventure sports before giving appropriate conclusion.
Agree (In favor)
Disagree(Not in Favor)
On one hand, people who are in favor of adventurous sports claim, the risktaking sports help in the development of self-confidence and independence of
a person. For instance, by successfully facing up the challenges of
adventurous sports like rock-climbing, young people overcome with their
fears. Specifically, going through a dangerous experience gives them the
courage to face the hurdles of their daily life (explaining example).
Furthermore, there is a lot of fame and money involved in these sports.
Performers get attention by doing stunts on motorcycles and jumping from tall
buildings. In addition, playing such sports may considered as the symbol of
manpower and something of gaining prestige in society.
On the other hand, opponents of extreme sports say that, being a extreme
sportsmen is very risky and dangerous. If a rope breaks while bungee jumping,
for example, a participant will be seriously injured or even die. Also,
equipment needed for these sports are very expensive, many people cannot
purchase them which eventually increases the chance of the tragedy. Above
all, youngsters who gravitate towards these types of sports could not
concentrate on their studies, due to which, they were not able to complete
their studies and hence not able to get lucrative jobs.
Conclusion:
To recapitulate, the foregoing discussion propounds the view that, we can say
that adventure sports have many impressive benefits including problemsolving, self-confidence and teamwork. However, it is recommended that
these sports should be tried under proper guidance and supervision. The
government should provide adequate knowledge about these sports to
athletes so that they can protect themselves from its dangers.
18. If Voting is compulsory in democratic society, what conclusions
can we draw about Nature of democracy?

Compulsory voting in a democratic society is undeniably a controversial topic

as it raises a question: how democratic a nation will be with or without
compulsory voting. This system has many benefits to the nation, if it is
implemented in a right manner. In this essay we will discuss the nature of
democracy with few examples of compulsory voting.
Democracy is also known as republic, is a governing system where the citizens
of the country vote to one of the several parties competing for the Presidents
position. If only 30% of the people vote then outcome of the election will be
unfair, as those who did not vote may not like the party that won the election.
For instance, In America, Bill Clinton won when mere 34% of the total
population voted. Similarly in India on an average only 50 to 55% of the
people vote and rest have to accept the rules drafted by the unwanted
members of the parliament.
Turning to the compulsory casting of vote, in Australia casting vote is
compulsory since last 80 years. Almost 90% of public participate and there is a
little fine for those who dont participate. Moreover, in South American nations
like Peru and Bolivia there are harsh punitive action against those who dont
vote. For example, Non Voters are barred from accessing their own bank
accounts for up to 3 months. This is the reason there are some people who are
against compulsory voting.
In a nutshell it can be said that compulsory casting of vote is an imperative
step in a democratic society, however its implication in a friendly manner is of
vital importance. So compulsory voting is mandatory for a democracy to be a
democracy.
19. Large shopping malls are replacing small shops. What is your
opinion about this? Discuss with appropriate examples.
It is irrefutable to say that, world has become a global village. A great number
of international shopping malls are opening their branches in almost all cities
of the world. Considering this, there are some analysts who hold an opine that
large shopping malls are replacing small shops, while others argue that malls
are vital for economic development. The following paragraphs will describe
both sides of the statement before deducing a reasonable conclusion.
In Favour of Malls
Against Malls

To begin, there are many reasons for people to believe that large shopping
malls are important for society. Firstly, these giant malls offer various kinds of
shops at one place. Due to which, people can easily purchase things under
one roof. Secondly, these shopping malls are monitored by security guards,
hence visitors feel comfortable when they walk around the malls. For example,
security cameras are placed at different angles and at different locations for
tight surveillance.
On the other hand, these shopping malls have some drawbacks also. These
days more and more people choose to go to large shopping malls, due to
which the sales of small shops are going down. As a consequence, many of
these shops owners have to close their business or have to reduce the number
of employees. In addition, heavy discounts are offered by malls in festival
seasons which also gravitate more buyers and divert their attention towards
traditional and small shops. For instance, around 50% discounts are given to
customers during christmas time. Thus, people mostly prefer to buy things
from malls not from local shops.
Conclude:
To recapitulate, I personally believe that, the existence of shopping malls will
boost the economic growth of the city. But, many people still depend on small
shops for their livelihood. So it is the government task to make some strict
regulations about this issue.
20. It is argue that getting married before finishing school or getting
a job is not a good choice. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Government of all the countries around the world have fixed an age above
which both males and females can get married. Age of an individual plays a
crucial role in marriages. In many societies children are got married during
childhood or even before they start earning. I strongly disagree to this
practice.
To begin with , marriage is a huge responsibility and one should be prepared
for all the challenges associated with it. Children going to school are not
physically , mentally and emotionally fit to face the difficulties of this
relationship . The body of adolescent kids is not prepared for physical intimacy
which is an inevitable part of a marriage. This results in early age pregnancies
which is life threatening for the mother as well as the child. This early age
marriages has resulted in the rise of premature delivery , still births , death of
young mothers during delivery and anaemic mother and child. If this continues
of the nation would be dark.

Secondly , there are a lot of financial problems faced by individuals who marry
without having a secured job. This has lead to poor living quality of the
individuals. They are are unable to take care of their families which causes
depression and frustration. Lack of money and market inflation has lead these
people into taking illegal measures and hence destroy peace and harmony in
the society.
To conclude, I believe that education and financial security makes an
individual truly eligible for marriage. These two factors are a necessity to live
a healthy and desirable life.
21. Do you think consumer should avoid over packed products or it is
responsibility of producer to avoid extra packaging of products? Give
your views or any relevant example with your own experience.
These days companies are selling their products by extra packing to attract
the buyers.
However, I am unconvinced and feel that the consumers should avoid
purchasing such products as it is a waste of money and resources.
Firstly, over packing of the goods increases its maximum retail
price.Hence, although the company is spending on the packing,it is the
consumer who ls at loss as the company sells the product at a higher price
than needed and recovers the money spent on its packing. It is the consumers
who should realise this and avoid buying such items.
Secondly, people these days buy food products that can be consumed on the
run. The plastic and paper that is used to wrap these goods are then thrown
around the place resulting in environmental pollution .
On the other hand fast food franchisee use various attractive ways to pack
their products which then lure the kids in buying them.Children form the major
proportion of the consumers of these unhealthy foods. As a result of the
consumption of these processed foods there is a rise in the number of children
suffering from obesity,diabetes etc.
To conclude, I believe it is the responsibility of the consumers to refuse
products that are overpacked as ultimately they are on the losing side.

22. Nowadays, people spend too much time at work to the extent
that they hardly have time for their personal life. Discuss.
Over-packaging of food products has become a trend in today's competitive
world. Producers are trying to attract consumers with an attractive packaging
of their products. Considering this, there are some analysts who hold an
opinion that consumers should avoid over packaged products, while others
consider consumers should buy over packaged products. This essay will give
assertion(opinion) on both sides of the contention(dispute) before delivering
plausible conclusion.
Packaging should be done
Should not be done
On one hand, there are reasonable arguments in favor of over-packaging from
manufacturer. They say, it helps them increase the durability, safety and
freshness of products. For instance, the shelf life of products increase
significantly when they are packed in several layers aluminium foil and
superior plastic. Specifically, this prevent an item from microbes and other
dust particles while transiting the products. Furthermore, attractive packaging
could be a significant factor for selling of the product more in the competitive
market. Thus, the manufacturer's reason for over packing products seems
liable.
On the other hand, people who are against to over-packaging claims, the cost
of the material use to pack an item is actually added to the product. For
instance, pills and tablets are found to be packed in much bigger and colorful
strips than needed which eventually increases the drug cost. Moreover, the
manufacturers often use non-disposable wrappers like plastic which are
harmful for our environmental. In addition, small amount of real products are
often presented in a large container or packet and the customers are being
deceived(cheat) by the packet size. Lastly, the chemical used for packing can
be at bad ailment for health.
Conclusion:
To recapitulate, I pen down saying that, extra packaging of products has a
detrimental effect on our environment. I personally believe that, consumers,
producers, and sellers have a collective role to avoid over-packaged products
to solve the negative effects. It is also recommended that a government
should spread the awareness among the users about the drawbacks of over
packaging.
