My personal philosophy of teaching is based on the
belief that education is to provide students with knowledge that they will need to become fruitful and build responsible citizens. I believe, a good teacher, first of all, has a strong faith in the future. When I enter a class I see my students as future doctors, engineers, pilots, accountants and so on. When a teacher dream of a students bright future, he teaches his student to fulfil his dream. It is the dream of many teachers that turned our world with full of successful people (wehling, 2007). In my opinion, a good teaching is a well-planned lesson with clear objectives and vision that should be presented in an organized manner by using effective teaching aids and activities that would arouse the interest of the students that helps to achieve desired objectives. The most important aspect of good teaching is planning. Any activity that is undertaken without planning is sure to fail. Audio visual aids and activities make the class interesting. A teacher should always teach simple to complex ideas. Taking students out of the class gives them an opportunity to experience real life situations. I believe in the power of questions and questioning strategies to cause thinking and when they start asking questions, they begin to understand. If we concentrate on explanation they may not be able to grasp and also it will be fruitless, if I show they will remember and if I involve them they will understand. My classroom is a space for myself and my students to share information as well as to examine what this information communicates about ourselves and our world ("Section 1 - PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF TRAINING", 2016).
Formative and summative assessments are used to
assess the students progress. Assessments are prepared according to the lesson objectives. It is important to create detailed rubrics for assessment and what the students are responsible for. Aim of assessment is to guide instructions. It helps to monitor and evaluate a students progress and provides information to parents, teachers and administration. It allows a teacher to determine which instructional strategies are effective and which one needs to be modified ("Formative vs Summative AssessmentTeaching Excellence & Educational Innovation Carnegie Mellon University", 2016). The greatest challenge that I face is to motivate students to set a goal. Increasing divorce rate among parents makes the situation worse. There are many parents who do not care about their children and I do visit their homes and give special attention to those children who crave for love and care. Language skills of students in English is pathetic in island schools. It affects their performance to an extent. A coordinated effort of all teachers are needed to solve this problem ("Single Parents Raise Good Kids Too!", 2016). As a teacher, I have short term and long term teaching goals. When I go to a class with a particular topic, my short term objective is to achieve the specific lesson objectives. In the long run, I want to make my students to realize the value of education and bring the best out of my students. A teachers role is to lead his students to the world of knowledge and open up their minds so that they have a bright future. Since I live in an Islamic society, inculcating Islamic values through my lesson is inevitable. Teachers should know, how to respect, and care about students, use a variety of instructional
strategies, be aware of individual differences, motivate
and inspire students very well, be a role model for them, prepare lesson plans, have good communication skills, use homework effectively, practice fairness, and let students gain responsibility (Parker, 1911). Enhancing student learning is the collective responsibility of parents, teachers and school administration. I always urge all parents to love, respect and care about their children, take responsibility of their education and have a good communication with school and teachers. An efficient administration is important for the planning and maintaining school activities (Parker, 1911). Finally, I believe a teacher lives to serve. A teacher is dedicated to learning to his or her discipline, to his or her students and to make the future the best place for us to live. I have many challenges to face and many responsibilities to carry out and I remain committed to them.
