(Heb.

11:4)

James Hudson Taylor

Died
3rd June 1905

 Do not have your concert first, and then tune your instrument
afterwards. Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer, and
get first of all into harmony with Him.

 You must GO forward on your knees.

 You do not need to pray for a great faith, but for faith in a great
God.

 Those who do not make God Lord of all do not make Him Lord at
all.

 “The Lord is my shepherd," is on Sunday, is on Monday, and is

through every day of the week; is in January, is in December, and
every month of the year; is at home, and is in China; is in peace,
and, is in war; in abundance, and in penury.

 ‘Try’ is a word constantly on the lips of unbelievers. ‘Do what you

can’, ‘do your best’ they say. The Lord says to the Christian ‘Do it!’
 Satan may build a hedge about us and fence us in and hinder our
movements, but he cannot roof us in and prevent our looking up.

 When you come to do a thing do it without haste for ‘the believer

shall not make haste’ – but also without unnecessary delay!

 We may fail - do fail continually - but He never fails.

 Many Christians estimate difficulty in the light of their own

resources, and thus they attempt very little and they always fail.
All ‘giants’ have been weak men who did great things for God
because they reckoned on His power and presence to be with
them.

 If you want blessing, make room for it.

 God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supplies.

 Sometimes it may be that while we are complaining of the

hardness of the hearts of those we are seeking to benefit, the
hardness of our own hearts and our feeble apprehension of the
solemn reality of eternal things may be the true cause of our want
of success.

 I have seen many men work without praying, though I have never
seen any good come out of it; but I have never seen a man pray
without working.

 The branch of the vine does not worry, and toil, and rush here to
seek for sunshine, and there to find rain. No; it rests in union and
communion with the vine; and at the right time, and in the right
way, is the right fruit found on it. Let us so abide in the Lord
Jesus.
 Nearness to GOD calls for tenderness of conscience,
thoughtfulness in service, and implicit obedience.

 How incomprehensible is the love of God! His ways are indeed past
finding out. How many of His providences are like the cloud
between the Israelites and the Egyptians - if looked on by
unbelievers, or without faith, it is a cloud of darkness; but if
viewed according to the privilege of the Lord's people, it is no
longer darkness, but light and safety. May this be your experience;
may you feel that the Hand which inflicts the wound supplies the
balm, and that He who has emptied your heart has filled the void
with Himself.

 Our eyes must be upon the Lord, not upon His people. His means
– not ours, not theirs.

 Argument almost always leaves behind a sore feeling in the heart

of the one who has been worsted. By loving teaching, by Christ-
like living, we are to win this people for our Lord.

 Fruit-bearing involves cross-bearing.

 There are commonly 3 stages in the work of God.

First - Impossible,
Second - Difficult,
Third -Done.

‘Friend, remember that it is better to read 1 quote 10 times

(meditatively) than to read 10 quotes 1 time (superficially).’
