This child restraint meets all requirements of Federal

Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213 both with and
without the convenience base. This infant restraint is
designed for use by children who weigh between 5 and
20 pounds (2.3 and 9 kg) and are 19 to 26 inches (48 to
66 cm) in height.

WARNING
Failure to follow each of the installation
instructions can result in your child striking the
vehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash.
Serious injury or death may result.
Premature infants may have difficulty breathing
when in a sitting position. Consult your doctor
before using this or any child restraint with a
premature infant.
DO NOT use this restraint in any vehicle
position equipped with an air bag. Interaction
between a rear facing restraint and air bags may
cause serious injury or death. If your vehicle has
an air bag, refer to the vehicle owner's manual for
child restraint installation.
NEVER leave child unattended.
NEVER place this child restraint on beds, sofas, or
other soft surfaces. The child restraint can roll
over on soft surfaces and suffocate your child.
NEVER place this restraint near the edges of
counter tops, tables or other high surfaces. The
childs movements can cause the child restraint to
slide.
When using this child restraint, always keep the
harness buckled and the straps snug against the
child. A child may strangle when straps are loose
or undone.

IMPORTANT
You will find the convenience base makes the child
restraint even easier to use because it eliminates the
need to buckle the vehicle seat belt each time you use
the child restraint in your vehicle.

No child restraint can guarantee absolute protection from

injury in every crash. Vehicle crashes are inherently
dangerous. To ensure that your child gets all the
protection designed into this child restraint, you must:
Read and follow these instructions exactly.
When the vehicle has an adjustable headrest, adjust
the headrest to the lowest position. The vehicle seat
back, against which the child restraint is installed,
should be fully padded and free of hard objects.
Use this child restraint only on forward-facing vehicle
seats. DO NOT use on vehicle seats which face the
rear or side.
Use this child restraint only on vehicle seats with
backs that lock into place.
DO NOT use this child restraint in a vehicle seat
equipped with seat belts that automatically move along
the vehicle frame when the door is opened. These
seat belts will not hold a child restraint properly.
DO NOT use this child restraint in a vehicle seat
equipped with lap belts that do not lock except in a
sudden stop or crash (emergency locking retractors).
You must use a seating location with a locking seat
belt. Consult your vehicle owners manual or dealer to
determine if your vehicle has emergency locking
retractors.
Always place handle in the down position when using
this restraint in a vehicle.
This child restraint must be installed by using the
following instructions as well as the instructions in your
vehicle owner's manual. If there is a conflict between
the two instructions, the vehicle owners manual
regarding child restraint installation must be followed.
Some vehicle seat belts may interfere with correct
attachment of your child restraint to its base. Always
check to be certain the child restraint is locked into the
base by lifting up on the seat.
According to accident statistics, children are safer
when properly restrained in rear seating positions, than
in front seating positions. Generally, the center rear is
safest.

 This child restraint may be installed in a vehicle with

the convenience base or by itself. Always anchor
the child restraint or convenience base with the
vehicle seat belt, even when not occupied. In a
crash, an unrestrained car seat or base may injure
someone.
Always buckle the harness straps and use the chest
clip when using as a car seat and/or a carrier.
Always place handle in the down position before removing infant from the seat.
In hot or sunny weather, always check the child
restraint and buckle for hot areas before placing a
child into the seat. Cover the seat with a light
colored blanket when you leave the vehicle.
DO NOT place this infant restraint in seating
positions with a fold-down armrest. During an
impact the movement of the armrest can cause
serious injury or death to your infant.
If this restraint is involved in any accident, it should
be replaced.
DO NOT use this product if it is damaged, broken, or
has missing parts.

AIRPLANE USAGE
This restraint meets FAA inversion requirements for
airplane use. Airplane installation is the same as
vehicle installation. Turn the top of the airplane seat
belt buckle away from the restraint for easy release.

SAFE PRACTICES
The first and most important thing to do is to
make a firm family rule: Everyone rides buckled
up or the car doesnt go. Make no exceptions for
adults or children. If someone unbuckles, stop the
car. Being firm and consistent right from the start will
mean fewer discipline problems as children get older.
An unrestrained child or adult can be thrown into and
injure other passengers.
NEVER try to tend to a crying babys needs while
driving. NEVER take a baby out of the child restraint for comforting while the vehicle is moving.
NEVER make an exception and let your child ride
outside the restraint. This will lead to many discipline problems, and your infant could get hurt in a
sudden stop or crash.
DO NOT feed an infant who is riding in a child
restraint.
DO NOT allow a child to have anything like a lollipop
or ice cream on a stick. A collision, bump, or swerve
could cause these objects to injure the child.
DO NOT allow sharp or heavy objects to be loose in
the car. Put groceries in the trunk. Anything loose
can be deadly in a crash.
In cold weather, baby may need a blanket for extra
warmth. Place baby in the restraint and cover both
baby and restraint. DO NOT place blanket underneath harness straps.

INSTRUCTIONS

Dress your infant in clothing with legs. The

harness must pass between the baby's legs,
clothing with legs allows a better fit. Do not
use a sack sleeper or a bulky blanket.
Place your infant 5 to 20 pounds (2.3 to 9 kg),
19 to 26 inches (48 to 66 cm) in the restraint.
Babys back and bottom should be flat against
the seat. If you leave a gap, baby will not be
comfortable.

Pull the harness over the infants head and

insert the metal tongue A on the harness, into
the groove between the child's legs until it
snaps. Pull up on the metal tongue to be
certain it is securely latched. DO NOT use this
product without fastening the harness.

To release the buckle, pull the red button and

lift tongue out of the latch.
The harness must be even with babys
shoulders or lower. When the seat is new, the
harness is installed in the lowest slots.

To change the harness position, remove the

harness anchor from the retainer on the seat,
and push the harness anchor A through the slot
to the front of the seat.

Pull the harness anchor out through the front of

the seat.

Feed the entire harness through the opposite
slot to the back of the seat. It may be helpful to
pull the top of the seat pad off the seat.

Starting with the harness anchor, feed the

harness through the upper slot A below the
adjuster.

Feed the entire harness through the slot to the
front of the seat, then through the corresponding
slot on the seat pad.

Make sure the strap is not twisted. Fasten the
buckle tongue. Feed the harness anchor
through the other side of the seat pad, then
through the slot in the seat A.

Insert the harness anchor back into the retainer

on the seat. Pull on the strap, so that the
harness anchor lies flat on the seat back.

Adjust the harness tie A so that it is at armpit

level. The harness must be tight against the
infant with no more than two finger-widths of
slack between the harness and child.
Note: Support babys head. For about the first
three months, a babys head needs extra
support. Use a small rolled towel on each side
of the babys head.

To tighten the harness, pull the loose end of the

strap.

To loosen the harness, squeeze the adjuster

and pullthe strap from the front of the seat.

After securing the infant, place the restraint into
your vehicle. Adjust the restraint so that its
backrest is approximately 45 degrees to the
floor of vehicle. Make sure the level line A is
parallel with the vehicle floor. Note: Generally,
the center rear seating position is the safest.
This infant restraint must face the rear of the
vehicle.

Rotate the handle to the down position by

squeezing both handle triggers A.

Secure the restraint to your vehicle by routing

the vehicle seat belt through the belt slots A on
the sides of the restraint.

Lap and Shoulder Belts

Thread the shoulder belt through the back of the

child restraint.

Use the belt clip A on the back of the child

restraint to secure.

You may also let the vehicle shoulder belt C fall

against the vehicle seat back B if it will not reach
around the back of the restraint.
Note: In vehicles with a lap and shoulder belt and
a free sliding buckle tongue, you must install the
locking clip. See USING A LOCKING CLIP.

Follow this section if your child

restraint is equipped with a

ADJUST RIGHT BASE

Not available on all models

IMPORTANT
Be sure that the release button of the vehicle seat
belt does not contact a side or edge of the child
restraint. This could cause the vehicle seat belt to
accidently release. If your particular seat belt allows
the buckle to fall into a questionable location, turn the
buckle upside down so the push button faces away
from the child restraint or use another seating position.
The child restraint MUST be locked firmly into the
base. Check by lifting up on the child restraint.

Secure the base to your vehicle seat by routing

the vehicle seat belt through the openings on the
sides of the base A. You may also let the vehicle
shoulder belt fall against the vehicle seat back. Be
sure that the vehicle shoulder belt does not lie
inside any portion of the Adjust Right Base.

Push down on

Pull the vehicle seat belt A as tight as possible,
while pushing down on the base with your full
weight. Check to be sure the base is secure and
stable by moving the base from side to side at the
belt path B. It should not move more than 1 inch
(25 mm) forward or side to side.

Secure the child restraint to the base by placing

the front of the restraint under the hook A and
snapping down into place.

Rotate the handle to the down position by pressing

on the red handle triggers A located on each side
of the child restraint. Move the handle back until it
locks into place behind the child restraint. Place
the child in the restraint and secure.

Tip!

Vehicle must be
on a level surface.
Check the level indicator A to see if the base is
level. The base is level when only green (no red) is
showing in the level indicator window. If the base
is not level follow steps 7 - 8.

To level the base unfasten the seat belt and pull
the Adjust Right arm A down to the first of three
leveling positions.

Check the level indicator again. If you still see red

in the level indicator window, pull the Adjust Right
arm down and over to the next level.

Tip!
A
Green filled window
means go!

Continue changing the postions of the arm while

tightening the vehicle belt until the base becomes
level, and the level indicator reads green.

If after trying all four levels the base is still not
level, use a tightly rolled towel or small blanket
underneath the front edge of the base. You need
to provide enough recline for an infants head to
lie back comfortably.

CONVENIENCE BASE

IMPORTANT

Re-buckle the seat belt, make certain the child

The base should not move more than 1 inch (25 mm)

Remove locking clip from vehicle seat belt when not
used with a child restraint or the vehicle seat belt will
not properly restrain an adult or child. Serious injury
could occur.

Secure the child in

the carrier.
To use as a

Guide each end of the canopy strip A into the
canopy holders B located on each side of the
child restraint.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
To clean pads slide the elastic loops of the seat
pad off of the seat shell. See steps 4 -10 in the
use instructions section .
Cloth pads and canopies may be machine
washed separately - cold water, delicate cycle,
tumble dry 10 - 15 minutes, low heat.
Wipe straps, buckles and harness adjuster with
warm damp cloth and mild soap. Air dry.
To help protect the vehicle upholstery, place a
towel beneath and behind the child restraint.
