Student-athletes that violate the Elk River Football Program Social Media Policy may be disciplined.
This could include permanent or temporary suspension from the team, as determined by the

Requirements for ParBcipaBon:

All students must meet the eligibility requirements as established by the Minnesota State
High School League;

Place the highest ideals of compe))on and educa)on above winning and losing;

Abstain from the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal or performance enhancing drugs;

Promote and support the en)re interscholas)c program of the school;

Present an aqtude of sportsmanship and good will in all circumstances;

Be well groomed and appropriately dressed at all )mes;

Avoid the use of profanity at all )mes;

Be respecrul to all adults and compe)tors at all )mes.

TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES


FIRST VIOLATION
The student-athlete will be suspended from the next two contests or two weeks, whichever is greater.
The student-athlete will also face discre)onary punishment by the coach to include but not limited to extra
running, work detail, community service, etc.


SECOND VIOLATION
The student-athlete will be suspended from the next six contests or three weeks, whichever is greater.
Discre)onary punishment by the coach to include but not limited to extra running, work
detail, community service, etc.

THIRD VIOLATION
The student-athlete will be suspended for the next twelve contests or four weeks, whichever is greater.
Discre)onary punishment by the coach to include but not limited to extra running, work
detail, community service, etc.

NOTE: If a student-athlete is found in viola)on of any of the rules published in the Athle)c Code of Ethics
the consequences will go into eect for the next scheduled game(s). If the viola)on occurs in the o-
season, the consequences will go into eect at the beginning of the season.

ATHLETIC INFORMATION
Elk River Football follows standards and rules established by both the Elk River School System
and the Minnesota State High School League. Any student wishing to represent Elk River
Football must meet eligibility requirements as dened by these organiza)ons and ERHS.
The following regulaBons apply to all ERHS students in grades 9-12 who parBcipate in
extracurricular acBviBes.
1. In order to par)cipate in extracurricular ac)vi)es a student must have a 2.0 or be on
track for graduaBon.
2. A student must be present in school at least half of the school day (3 periods) to be
eligible to par)cipate in an ac)vity/sport for that day. It is expected that student-athletes
will be present the en)re school day.
3. Students who are suspended ISS or OSS may not par)cipate in any school ac)vity,
including prac)ce, un)l the suspension ends.

4. All students must have an up-to-date completed physical form on le BEFORE they
can prac)ce or tryout for a team. All physicals are good for three years from the date
the physical was conducted.

5. All eligibility requirements established by the MSHSL (Minnesota State High School
League) must be met and maintained.
6. In order to earn an award, a student must remain on the squad (in the ac)vity he/
she is par)cipa)ng) un)l the en)re schedule has been completed and/or un)l he/she
has been released by the coach.
7. All students must obey training rules at all )mes, especially the general rules of the
non-use of alcohol, tobacco, and unauthorized drugs, as well as all local, state, and
federal laws.

8. All students must return all equipment issued or pay for the replacement of any item not
returned.
9. Any student who quits a sport cannot tryout for another sport un)l that sport has
completed its season.
10. Non-school teams (i.e., AAU, Club teams) do not take precedence over a ERHS team
that is in-season, including games and prac)ces. Elk Rivers coaches will work with the player
as much as possible but there is no guarantee. Elk Rivers teams MUST take priority.
11. All student-athletes are encouraged to par)cipate in one, two, or three seasons as they
choose. Student-athletes, who are nishing one season while tryouts are in progress for
another season, will have an opportunity for a delayed tryout.

12. Student-athletes are expected at all )mes to represent Elk River Football with dignity,
sportsmanship, and class. Severe exhibi)ons of poor sportsmanship will result in a period of
suspension as determined by the Head Coach and/or the Athle)c Director.
13. Student-athletes are expected to treat our facili)es, including equipment, with care and
respect. Student-athletes will be expected to pay for any damage to our facili)es and/or
equipment.
14. Elk River Football has a zero-tolerance for all hazing ac)vi)es. Hazing will not be
tolerated in any program regardless of the persons willingness to par)cipate.
15. LeZering Policy: All student-athletes that make it through a Varsity football season in
good standing will receive a leZer. Any Sophomores or Freshmen that wish to obtain a
varsity leZer will have to appear in at least 3 regular season Varsity games and have made
the 80% commitment number over the summer.

CONDUCT, CHARACTER, DISCIPLINE

The Head Coach, Ac)vi)es Director, and/or the Principal may suspend a
student for a period of )me for other incidents, including community
misconduct that have a detrimental eect upon the athle)c program at Elk
River High School.

1. The arrest and/or convic)on of a felony, or any misdemeanor which is
derogatory to the proper conduct of an athlete will result in suspension from
that ac)vity un)l a complete inves)ga)on has been conducted. The
inves)ga)on will be conducted by the head coach, ac)vi)es director, and/or
school resource ocer.

2. A player arrested, under inves)ga)on, on proba)on, etc. can be
suspended from compe))on un)l cleared by the administra)on. This will be
based on charges and/or convic)on (excluding minor trac viola)ons)

APPLICATION OF THE ATHLETIC CODE OF CONDUCT

The following rules apply:


In season and out of season.
On the school grounds at any )me.
O the school grounds.
In eect for one calendar year from the date of the oense.
During the )me of suspension, the student-athlete is not allowed to dress out but can be
with team.
During the )me of suspension, the student-athlete is allowed to con)nue to prac)ce with the
team.
In cases of severe viola)ons, the student-athlete may be dismissed from the team and the
athle)c program. This decision will be made by the Ac)vi)es Director and Head Coach.
There has to be proof and/or admiLance of a viola)on. Hear-say informa)on is not enough
evidence to nd a student-athlete guilty of viola)ng the Code of Ethics.

Team Rules

The following will serve as the basic rules for the Elk River Football Program. These rules are
in addi)on to the Elk River School District policies and the Minnesota State High School
League.
Student-athletes are required to aZend pracBce. If they are in school they should aZend
pracBce even if they are physically unable to parBcipate. They should be there to get
mental reps so they do not fall behind.


3 unexcused absences will result in removal from the team
Absences can only be excused by your Head Coach
Be on Time for PracBce
Being late for pracBce will result in work detail aher pracBce unless it is excused
by the coach.
Any absences (excused or unexcused) in a game week will result in reducBon of
playing Bme. Two absences in a game week means the student-athlete will not play
that week.

DetenBon/ISS/OSS
Any student-athlete that receives ISS or OSS will not be able to pracBce on those days,
therefore they will have either a reducBon of playing Bme or will not be allowed to
play depending on the length of the suspension. In addiBon, they will have work detail
for the rest of the season and make up pracBces.
If a student-athlete receives detenBon they will have work detail for the rest of the
season, and will also be subject to extra condiBoning and or reduced playing Bme.
Any missed pracBces (excused or unexcused) will result in the student athlete doing make
up training following pracBces. It is designed to make sure they are gekng the same work
as the student-athletes that were at pracBce. The make-up usually lasts about 20 minutes
aher pracBce.
Theh:
Any student-athlete caught stealing (not hear-say) from the team or their
teammates will be removed from the program. We are the Elk River Football
Family. If we cant trust each other we will never be successful.
Any conduct that is considered detrimental to the program can and will be dealt with on a
case by case basis by the head coach, and could result in removal from the team.
