The video first starts off with and establishing shot of London at night, as the
camera zooms in there is the use of editing from a transition through a fade into
an office. There is the use of sound through there being the absence of sound,
this has been used to create tension and leaves the viewer anticipating how the
music video is going to start. When the camera stopping there is a man in a grey
suite who has been thrown over an office desk. The used of mise-en-cen in the
costumes of ale men wearing grey suites. As the scene loses focus there is the
use of cinematography to then go to Taylor swift. As she is throwing men around
the room. This could show the audience the change from when she first became
popular love story to where she has come to now. This change has been
emphasised by her independence and strength in the video. As the clip
progresses you see her partner Salina Gomes fighting the people within the
office there is the use of pleonastic sound to heighten the viewers sensations
when watching the fighting. There is none-diegetic sound of an alarm has been
overplayed. After shes gets pushed off of the building there is a cinematography
when as there is a POV slow-motion. Through the use of camerawork the
cameras is usually focusing on Taylors face, the reason for this is that the
audience is only focusing on her and what she is saying, this can also be
manipulated for things such as product placement. (Coz baby weve got bad
blood)(Its so sad to think about the good times you and I). Taylor swift the
protagonist has the most prevalence in the video due to her motivating the
editing, and taking up most of the screen time. This shows that she is the most
important of all the different people in the video, the reason for this is that it is
her music video. Throughout the video there is fast paced editing throughout the
video which has been done to for the videos genre and theme. In places of the
video there are areas of the music video where the editing and music dont
match up to the rest of the video The music videos editing matched the beat of
the music video, this is done to make the video more fluent to the viewer as they
have. As the clip progresses Taylor is shown through the use of cinematography
and editing to be in the presence of a variety of different famous women holding
and using weapons. This goes against normal stereotypes as females are seen to
be weak, passive and get a man to go their fighting for them. An example of this
change would be hen a knife is thrown through a teddy bear. This shows the
changes in society with women becoming more independent. Furthermore the
use of this prop could be used to represent Taylor Swift when she first made her
mark on the music industry with her being innocent and could be done to show
the viewer that she has changed and in turn changing the music industry.
Another scene where this is show through mise-en-cen is when Taylor Swift is in a
boxing ring fighting. This has been done to imply to the audience that she is able
to back herself when in conflict, this could also represent their struggle in the
music industry and also Taylor herself. Furthermore this could have been done to
show her dominance in the music industry and that she is willing to fight for her
place. As the clip progresses there is the use of cinematography and camera
work as Taylor Swift is having most prevalence in the video along with her
motivating the editing. Throughout the video the camera has a lot of closure on
her and what she is doing and showing that she is important within the music
video. This has deliberately been done to draw the attention of the viewer from
the video and onto her, this would allow Taylor to sell her image along with her
album whilst making her more recognisable to her audience. Throughout the

video there is several parts that have direct address in the video, this could
either be Taylor talking to her target audience or a specific person. An example
of this would be when she says band aids dont fix bullet holes this could
suggest that she is saying sorry to the person for what had happened, again
there is the use of camerawork as she is taking up most of the frame with the
close up. The music throughout the video has a variation of different speeds and
durations of scene through the use of editing. As the video progresses the tempo
of the music progressively gets faster, this is done to get the viewer focusing on
Taylor swift and the other people in the clip advertising her album and making
her more familiar to the target audience there are parts in the video that are
shown for a short period of time. This has been done to heighten scne the going
to anticipation of the viewer on what is happen next. Another example of Taylor
swift changing would be through the colour of her hair changing at the end of the
clip. The brand image that they are trying to sell throughout the video is the
protagonist Taylor, through the whole of the clip they are trying to build up the
familiarity of the clip. Through there being many famous people featuring in the
music video it tries to portray her being important in the music industry. Another
benefit of having famous people in the video is that it can attract more people to
watch/ buy the track due to the song being heavily indorses by big name celebs.
Throughout the video the audience can understand the narrative of the song due
to the lyrics linking back to what is going on tin the video, the use of close-ups in
the video of synclines sound and direct address of tailor singing means that the
audience can get more pleasure through their performance in the song. The
narrative of the song can also relate back to the artist and can be used as a form
of expression to narrate their life. Bad blood is an example of this as the
narrative is about her being double crossed. This could be liked back to the
arguments that she was having with the Katy Perry at the time of the video being
released. The use of voyeurism in the video shows all of the female characters in
the revealing clothing. This could represent them as being sexual objects.
Through this and the use of the weaponry and the layout of the video being like a
movie suggests that the target audience would be male. His is emphasised
through the use of mise-en-secen with the use of props such as rope knives could
suggest bondage. Through this the viewer will have pleasure from watching the
video, this suggestion is enforced through the props.
