Magnetic susceptibility meters

MS2 Meter
Battery powered portable meter with integral four-digit display, for use with all MS2 sensors and
probes. Range 0.1 SI (volume specific). Measurement period ~1s or ~10s. Resolution up to 2x10-6 SI
(volume specific). Sockets and switches environmentally sealed for outdoor use.

MS3 Meter
Compact and lightweight software controlled meter for use with all MS2 sensors and probes.
Range 26 SI. Measurement period selectable down to 0.1s. Resolution up to 2x10-6 SI (volume
specific). Field data logging available. USB connectivity.

Magnetic susceptibility sensors and probes

MS2B Dual Frequency Sensor
With 36mm sample cavity for soil studies, palaeomagnetics, geomorphology and anisotropy
measurements. Calibration accuracy to 1%. Measurement period (MS2 meter only) 1.5s SI (1.2s
CGS) or 15s SI (12s CGS). Operating frequencies 0.465kHz 1% (LF) or 4.65kHz 1% (HF).

MS2C Core Logging Sensor

For volume susceptibility measurements of sediment cores. Calibration accuracy to 5%.
Measurement period (MS2 meter only) 1.1s SI (0.9s CGS) or 11s SI (9s CGS). Operating frequency
0.565kHz. Spatial resolution 20mm. Sensor diameters from 30162mm.

MS2D Loop Probe
For rapid assessment of soil susceptibility in the top 60mm of the land surface. Depth of
response 50% at 15mm, 10% at 60mm. Measurement period (MS2 meter only) 0.6s SI (0.5s CGS)
or 6s SI (5s CGS). Operating frequency 0.958kHz. Operates only with MS2 probe handle.

MS2E Surface Scanning Sensor

For high resolution surface measurements of split cores. Area of response 3.8mm x 10.5mm.
Depth of response 50% at 1mm, 10% at 3.5mm. Measurement period 1.5s SI (1.2s CGS) or 15s SI
(12s CGS). Operating frequency 2kHz.

MS2F Surface Point Probe

For assessment of soil susceptibility on rough terrain. Area of response: end face and cylinder
wall up to the shoulder. Depth of response: 10% at 6mm from end face and 4.5mm from outer
diameter of end cap. Operating frequency 0.58kHz. Operates only with MS2 probe handle.

MS2G Single Frequency Sample Sensor

For 1ml powder or liquid samples. Scaling correction values allow volumes down to 0.2ml to be
measured. Calibration accuracy 2%. Operating frequency 1.3kHz.

MS2H Downhole Probe
For profiling magnetic susceptibility of strata in 25mm nominal diameter auger holes. Spatial
resolution (vertical) 12.5mm (full-width, half-maximum). Depth of horizontal penetration
50%/2mm, 10%/5.5mm, 1%/13mm. Operating frequency 1.3kHz. Calibration accuracy 5% in
22mm sample.

MS2K Surface Sensor

For stratigraphic study of exposed geological and archaeological sections. Area of response
25.4mm diameter (full-width, half-maximum). Depth of response 50% at 3mm, 10% at 8mm.

MS2/MS3 Susceptibility/Temperature System

Measures magnetic susceptibility of samples over temperature range -200C to +850C, for
determination of mineral content and history of magnetisation. Comprises:
