FCR Long-View Exposure

Operation Guide
7th Edition: July 2007

897N0425D (010-050-60)

Images targeted for exposures using long-view cassettes

Exposures of whole spine and whole lower extremities are performed using long-view cassettes.
The two or more images thus read are composed into a single image, allowing the multiple images to
be handled as just one image.
When performing exposure, make sure that lead characters are positioned within the irradiated field so that direction of the exposure can
be verified appropriately. When doing so, pay due attention not to position the lead characters or any artificial objects around the areas
where image are stitched together.
Any artificial objects, such as lead characters, gypsum, artificial bone, grid scale and the like, that are positioned around the areas where
images are stitched together may not allow automatic image stitching processing to be performed correctly on the Console. If any artificial
objects are found to be positioned around the areas where images are stitched together, perform restitching processing manually.

Items needed
(1) Grids available for the cassette size in use

When closing the cassette back lid after inserting the IP, ensure
that the IP has been inserted into the cassette correctly, then
press the latches at both corners of the back lid to firmly close it.

* Use seamless grids.

Preparing Cassettes/IPs

Select a long-view exposure cassette that is suitable for

exposure of the target region and load an IP in it.

Preparing the Exposure

Table

1 Adjust the irradiated field so that X-rays are exposed

to the largest area possible on the cassette surface.
When using grids, place them on the cassette so that
the lead strips are parallel to the cassettes longer side.
We recommend that you use grids with no seams for
long-view exposures.

For the Triple Cassette, remove the coupling bars to

divide it and then load IPs.
Be sure to divide the cassette on a flat surface such as
a table or placed on the dedicated holder.

Slide the button to
the direction marked
with an arrow.

Do not use a compensation filter that controls the X-ray transmittance value.

X-ray Exposure

1 Set the same exposure conditions (X-ray energy and

X-ray dose) as those applied to the conventional
F/S (Film/Screen Exposure) system.
2 Load the long-view exposure cassette with its green
mark upward (to the subjects head).
3 Expose the cassette to X-rays.

Pull the coupling

bar out straight.

Remove the coupling

bar to the outside.

Load IPs from 1 TOP, 2 middle and 3 BOTTOM.

IP Registration
(Reading the IP barcode)

1 Select the Whole Spine 2R or Whole Lower

Extremities 2R menu from the Console study menus,
then ensure that WS is selected for function
processing.

Operation Guide
For the Double Cassette
2 Register the first IP starting from the TOP side on
the rear of the long-view exposure cassette.
When registration of the first IP is completed, three
exposure menus are displayed automatically. Note
that three exposure menus will be displayed even
if the third exposure is not per formed.
3 Perform registration of the second and third IPs.
The second IP is registered by automatically reversing the first IP up-side-down.

2 Ensure that all images to be stitched together have

been read completely. When doing so, S and L
values of the image read first of all will be taken for
necessary processing.
Touch [Image stitching]. Image stitching processing
will then be performed automatically, and images
thus stitched displayed.
For this purpose, image values displayed on the top
of the exposure menu list will be adopted for S and
L values of the stitched images.

For the Triple Cassette

2 Register the IP starting from the TOP side on the
rear of the one-IP cassette divided from the Triple
Cassette.
3 Register the TOP side on the rear of the two-IP
cassette divided from the Triple Cassette.
4 Register the BOTTOM side on the rear of the twoIP cassette divided from the Triple Cassette.

Image Reading/
Stitching

Start to insert the cassette that covers the thickest body part.

For the Double Cassette

1 For exposure of whole lower extremities when the
Double Cassette is used, insert it into the same Image
Reader from the TOP, and from the BOTTOM for
exposure of the whole spine.

[Image stitching] can be selected only when images to be

stitched have been selected accordingly.
An image read by the FCR XG-1 and another read by the FCR
5000 plus series cannot be stitched to each other mixedly.
To display images before and after stitching processing, select
[monitor mode].
Image re-stitching is disabled when a study was finished
without per forming image stitching processing.
In an institution where no Barcode Readers are used for IP
registration, be sure to change order of menus exposed before
selecting [Image stitching].

Film Printout/Transfer
of Stitched Images

Upon completion of a study, images are transferred to

a printer or a device specified on the Console.
The table below shows reduction ratios applicable to
images printed on film, when settings for life-size (100%size) output are not determined on the Console.

into the same Image Reader according to order below:

To register an IP for a long-view exposure cassette on a device

other than CR Console, operate following the procedure described below.
Make sure that WS is selected for the function of a menu that is
to be registered.
When registering an IP, check the upside-down rotation flag for
the following:

(2) Insert the IP

in the middle.

(1) Insert the IP

from the TOP.

Ensure that upside-down rotated is displayed on the IP at the

TOP.
Ensure that non-reverse A is displayed on the IP at the BOTTOM.

Use the procedure below to register IPs from the green mark side.
For the Double Cassette: IP at the TOP and then IP at the BOTTOM
For the Triple Cassette : After it has been divided into two cassettes,
(1) IP at the TOP of the Single Cassette,
(2) IP at the TOP of the Double Cassette and
(3) IP at the BOTTOM of the Double Cassette

(3) Insert the IP

from the BOTTOM.

Insert first the cassette from the TOP into the same Image Reader
for exposure of the whole lower extremities, and from the
BOTTOM for exposure of the whole spine.

Image Restitching
Processing

1 To perform manual image stitching processing,

touch [QA] after selecting images to be stitched.

4 Touch [Next ] to start processing that joins images.

To determine the two points (two-point assignment)
where the images are stitched with each other, we
recommend that you select the two-point adjustment
process and set the image magnification ratio to 100%.

5 When stitching processing ends, select [OK] to

complete.
2 Touch [WS] in the pallet. You can then perform
manual image stitching processing.

If restitching processing is selected, the system restores the

images before performing stitching processing. You cannot
select automatic image stitching processing again.
Be careful when selecting restitching processing. The image
rotation function is not available with manual image stitching
processing.

Image Output

Cassette Storage

To output stitched images, follow the standard operation procedure that can be used on the Console.
For operations on the Console, see the Console
Operation Manual.

3 Pre-stitched images will be displayed. Set up the

image order or image direction as necessary.

For storage of a Triple Cassette, we recommend

that you use a dedicated holder for safety purpose.

The holder can be set

either from right or left.
