TEXT:
Students will gain tools for critical thinking in applying the law in business
decisions.
Students will acquire skills to research the law as it applies to various areas of
business decision-making.
Students will gain appropriate tools for analyzing the law in a business setting.
Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate critical skills when they discuss the case that they
have prepared for class.
Students will demonstrate the ability to conduct research through the legal
research assignments.
Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze cases through legal briefs using
the IRAC method.
C Requirement:
A grade of C is required for all students majoring in Business Administration. A grade of
C or above is required in all core and concentration courses. If a student receives a Cor lower in a core or concentration, the student must repeat the course.
Academic Conduct:
All work turned in is expected to be your own work. Students must follow the CSUSB
Course Bulletin. Any violation of this standard will be reported to the Office of Judicial
Affairs.

Cell Phone Policy:
Please turn off your cell phone while in class. If you have extenuating circumstances,
inform me prior to class, put the phone on silent (not vibrate) and refrain from texting.
This will allow you and the other students to focus on what is occurring in the class. It
will afford everyone a break from the outside world and an opportunity to connect with
and learn from the professor and each other.
Class Computer Policy:
In class utilization of computers is restricted to class related matter. Use of a computer
in class for other purposes is strongly disfavored.

Instructional Approaches:
Instruction in this course will involve a combination of Socratic Method (question-based
class lecture), class discussion based on the readings, relevant videos, visual aids and
online learning.

References will be in APA format Legal citations will be in bluebook format.
Briefs:
The students will write two briefs. The briefs will be in IRAC format. The format will be
posted on Blackboard. The professor will also demonstrate this process in class.
Participation:
Students will be assigned cases in groups of six or seven maximum students for
discussions in class. Attendance from these groups will be taken at random. Further
instruction will be given in class.
Midterm Examination:
This examination will be multiple choice and will cover the cases and information
presented in the first half of the semester. The students should have an understanding
of the holdings of different cases and how to answer basic hypothetical questions.
Final Exam:
The final exam will be cumulative. It will consist of multiple choice questions. The
professor will conduct a review for the final exam.
