1.0 OBJECTIVE
The objective of this document is to specify their design
requirements for the use of Signs and Signboards intended for
development and operation of Zauliyah Gas Plant facilities (as
specified in section 2.2) identifying the type, number and location of
safety signs to standardise and ensure clarity of communication.

2.0 INTRODUCTION
2.1

Background

Zauliyah Gas Plant (ZGP) receives well fluids from Hasirah and
Hawqa fields which are located in the central Oman in Bahja Rima
area .The fields are about 500 Km South West of Muscat area. They
are characterised as gas and oil reservoir at Gharif and Buah
formations. The non - associated gas reservoirs are at initial
conditions; while the oil reservoirs have been on production since
mid 1980s with exceptional of Hawqa field which started production
in 1997.
The Hasirah and Hawqa reservoirs are essentially non-associated
gas accumulations in the upper Gharif Unit-1 sandstone discovered
in 1989. The reservoirs are characterized by moderate channeling,
medium porosity (20% average) with high permeability. The fields
contain expectation GIIP of 1.787 Bcm and CIIP of 0.405 MMm3 in
Hasirah (updated after HSR-11 results) plus GIIP of 2.936 Bcm and
CIIP 0.660 MMm3 in Hawqa.
The new gas plant is designed to handle 1.2 MMsm3/d of raw gas as
a base case. In the early production year 2015, the plant inlet
pressure will be at 50 barg and the gas will be exported to SOGL .In
the later years (2025) the depletion phase will start operating plant
at 35 barg inlet pressure only Hawqa field will continue production
whereas Hasirah Field will stop producing as per the forecast.
There are 2 wells at Hasirah and 5 wells at Hawqa which include
one future well. The gas production project is designed to be local
substitution of Central Processing Plant Gas.
2.2

Facilities Description

2.3.1 Existing Facilities

The existing Zauliyah Production Station is in the vicinity of Hasirah
& Hawqa area receives crude oil from its own field and from Hawqa,
Hasirah, Hazar and Maqtaa fields. Zauliyah Production Station
separates the gas and water from oil. The oil is exported using the
10" pipeline to the Main Oil Line via Sahmah Booster Station. The
gas is used to provide lift gas for the Zauliyah field. The Produced
water is pumped to the Zauliyah water injection facilities. Associated
gas is compressed to a pressure of about 7000 kPa(g) by three
reciprocating Gas Lift Compressors operating in parallel to provide
lift gas for the Zauliyah field. Over 600,000 sm3/d bulk gas is
ZAU-256-HX-7880-00001-0001

currently produced, 400,000 sm3/d is for gas-lift requirement and

hence the associated gas is currently flared due to compression
capacity constraint. In order to provide adequate gas lift
compression and treatment of excess associated gas such that gas
lifted oil production is unconstrained and continuous flaring is
eliminated, the ZPS will be upgraded with following:

One Centrifugal gas compressor of 620 ksm3/d.

Two reciprocating booster compressor downstream of GCU to

compress from 70 bar(g) to 85 bar(g) to meet SOGL pressure.

One 200 ksm3/d gas conditioning unit (GCU).

The new gas plant will interface with the existing facilities at
Zauliyah Oil Production station.
2.3.2 New Facilities
The Zauliyah Gas Plant is essentially green field and will be
located adjacent to Zauliyah Oil Production Station. The following
field location shows the relative location of the gas wells and the
existing Zauliyah Oil Production Station.
Field Location

As part of Zauliyah gas field development Project, the following

facilities will be installed:

7 wells (5 in Hawqa and 2 in Hasirah), the gross fluid will be

routed to RMS through 6 GRE flow lines.

3.0 SAFETY SIGNS SCHEDULE & SPECIFICATION

3.1

Overview & General Requirements for Signs

The Safety Signs Schedule is attached in Appendix 2. This section

outlines the general requirements for safety signs as given in the
PDO standard SP-1284 [1] and the international standards
referenced by that document.
PDO requires all signs at PDO facilities to have a certain format. All
signs shall have wording in both Arabic and English. The Arabic
script shall be above or to the right of the English script, and shall
be of equal size and prominence.
Arabic script shall be in Advertising Medium Naskh. English script
shall be in Helvetica Medium, upper and lower case letters. This
requirement is elaborated in SP-1284 [1], section 2.4.1.
The sign wording shall be agreed between the Company Public
Affairs & Information Department, (HXM) and the user, in
consultation with relevant authorities, and shall be subject to the
approval of HXM.
Translation of the wording between English and Arabic shall also be
subject to the approval of HXM.
The Company Logo, name and Corporate Identity shall not be used
on safety signs within Company facilities, except in special
circumstances, subject to the approval of HXM. This requirement is
outlined in SP-1284 [1], section 2.4.7.1. An example of the special
circumstance is the facility identification board at the main entrance
ZAU-256-HX-7880-00001-0001

to the plant which shall consist of the company logo, name of facility
and also safety signs.
Safety Signs shall comply with the international standards in section
1.4 of SP-1284 [1], in particular:
BS5378 - Safety Sings and Colours.
BS5499 - Fire Safety Sign Notice and Graphic Symbols.
3.2 Purpose of Safety Signs
The objective of safety signs for Zauliyah Gas Plant is to give a
general safety message, by means of a combination of a safety colour
and geometric shape and which, by inclusion of a graphical symbol,
gives a particular safety meaning.
3.3 Type of Safety Signs
Safety signs for the Zauliyah Gas Plant shall be of the following five
types.
Prohibition sign: Indicates an action which is forbidden.
Mandatory sign: Gives positive instructions which must be
obeyed.
Hazard sign: Advises of a danger or hazard.
Safe condition sign: Shows the way to safety in time of
emergency.
Fire Equipment sign: Locates and identifies equipment use in
fire fighting and to warn of a hazard ahead from extinguishing
installations.

3.4 Geometric Shapes, Safety Colours and Contrast Colours

for Safety Signs
The geometric shapes, safety colours and contrast colours for safety
signs shall be as specified in Table 3.1, which is based on Table 1, BS

3.5 Layout of Safety Signs

The layout of safety signs shall be as described in Section 9, BS 5499
[2], (see Appendix 1)
3.6 Location of Sign
Safety signs shall be positioned to ensure that:

The message gives maximum impact.

The message has only one meaning and conveys only one
safety message and cannot be misinterpreted, (except for
composite - see Section 3.11).
The sign does not itself constitute a safety hazard.
The sign can be read/seen in the distance that it is required to
be read/seen for it to achieve its required objective.
3.7 Size and Viewing Distance of Sign or Signboards
A general guide for the size of safety signs, showing symbols only,
relative to viewing distances is as given in Table 3.2. Sizes may have
to be increased if both symbol and wording are incorporated. Sizes
shall be subject to the approval of HXM, in accordance with SP-1284
[1], section 2.4.7.2.
