A Voyage Youll Never Forget

For a moment, imagine that you are teleported to a world where you dont
have your tech gimmicks to keep you company, when no ones around you,
no listening to music, no Face book, or whatever you do with your handy
gadgets. Isnt that your worst nightmare? Can you believe how far we had
traveled; you know; from being cave dwellers to space dwellers (well not
exactly space dwellers or at least for now, cyberspace dwellers, may be). Can
you imagine what technology has in reserve for us in the future? I wont be
surprised, if you are spellbound when you think of it. Now i have a proposition
to make. If you care to join me on this odyssey, I will reveal to you a great
discovery worth more than anything in the world we know. Now if you want to
go out for a snack or a drink, or whatever, this is the time. Once you start,
make sure theres no turning back, because this is gonna get too serious, as am
gonna bring in science now.
Our odyssey begins sometime during the early 19th century, with a guy named
Michael Faraday, son of a blacksmith, not so well educated, average young
man with immense energy to pursuit his dream of being a physicist. By his
unfailing will, he did realize his dream and shown to mankind an invisible force
which formed the basis for the application of electricity in technologies.
Wondering what it is? Its electromagnetism. You may be expecting to know,
how he did it, so heres his story. I dont want to bore you with a long story, so
let me cut to the chase; he was a science enthusiast and he worked as a lab
assistant to the well renowned chemist Sir. Humphry Davy. One day Mr. Davy
and his colleagues were fascinated by the phenomenon of magnetic compass
deflecting, when placed near a current carrying wire. They are amazed by this
and have no clue of how it occurred. Young Faraday, who was there, was even
more curious. He did some systematic experiments and found a pattern in the
deflection of magnetic needle, in his independent thinking, he imagined lines
of forces flowing outside of electric wire and the magnet and their interaction
resulted in the deflection of magnetic needle, it was during the time, when
electricity is something which flows inside the wire and not outside of it, held
to be the most enduring belief. And Faraday put an end to it by another
experiment in which he made an electric wire move around a magnet and
proved the existence of electromagnetic interaction and he got his due laurels
from the scientific community for his discovery. As Einstein puts it, what
Faraday did, was nothing short of a great revolution in the field of science.

Then his discovery was perfected by James Clark Maxwell, followed by all the
inventions right up to our amazing handhelds.
Now, if the invisible force emitted from these nonliving stuffs could have such
greater potential, what about the one emitted by us human beings? Well, you
can see its results everywhere, everything around you, even the one which you
are sitting in front of right now, yeah am talking about the human thoughts
which is the reason for everything that has been and that ever will be.
Scientists say that thoughts are the highest form of potential available to
mankind to bring our dreams to reality which they call as law of attraction or
law of love. Imagine what we can do with it, if we use it on our own inner self?
If it could give life to a non-living thing, what it can do to us. Have we ever
thought about it, have we ever thought of using it for the things inside of us,
like beating our laziness, ego, fear and all sorts of negative things and build up
confidence, discipline, love and character and become what we supposed to
become, a divine human. Each thought you have has its own frequency, if you
have positive thoughts, you get positive things in life, and imagine a life full of
vitality, love and abundance. Its possible only if we make use of the greatest
gift we are ever bestowed with; our mind. If you say you are too old for this
thing, and your brain is hardwired like this since birth and you have no choice,
think again, the old saying You cant teach an old dog new tricks doesnt fit
here. Scientists had discovered that our human brain is the most dynamic
organ; it changes itself at a rate we could never imagine. Our brains age
depends on what we do with it. Think of it this way. Our mind is the software
and our brain is the hardware. Now you know why, there can never be a super
computer more than our human brain? Heres the answer, in our computer
systems, if we want to upgrade the software, we need to upgrade the
hardware too; but in the case of our human brain, it upgrades by itself.
Scientists call it neural plasticity. Let me put this straight. Once it was believed
that human brain after childhood will not be able to alter its structure and
hence what we are capable of, is determined by our development in our young
age and the way we use our brain in our young ages. And as we get older, our
cognitive abilities start to diminish, but in the late nighties, scientists
discovered that brain never stop developing and the atrophy of brain due to
aging can be avoided by engaging our brain with new challenges.

So heres the thing. No matter what our age is, we can change our lives. Our
thoughts make our life. And by our thoughts we can make our brain do
whatever we wanted it to do. Its simple, use the software (mind) to make the
most out of your hardware (Brain) and even you can keep on upgrading your
software without even worrying about upgrading your hardware as it upgrades
by itself, now how cool is that? What we need to do is; we must challenge our
brains with new tasks. Expose it to new things, in all aspects of life, physical,
mental, social, and emotional. Leave your comfort zone, take up new
challenges, that will make your brain live again. Its asking us to become like
little kids, wondering with awe at everything, curious about new things,
learning them and give our brain its daily dosage of work. One mistake we are
doing is; we are choosing one thing and going on improvising on it. So our
brains become specialized only at one thing. Why it has to be that way? If our
brain can handle anything we put it to, why should we limit ourselves to one
field or one skill? It all comes to one thing, our willingness. Let me go deep into
it. Our brain is made of billions of neurons or nerve cells which are in the form
of a network and each network of neurons is specialized at specific tasks.
When we expose our brain to something new, whether its an academic
learning or facing our fear or whatever, our brain develops new neurons and
they form a new network by emitting several neurotransmitters like dopamine
(one which is responsible for feeling good, happiness) to communicate with
each other. If you do something right, your brain saves the connection for you
to do it right the next time, and if you do it with enthusiasm and energy, more
neurotransmitters are released by the neurons and the connection becomes
stronger and you become an expert in that specific activity. As Donald Hebb, a
neuroscientist puts it, Neurons that fire together (emission of
neurotransmitters), wire together. So the more engaged you are in an activity,
more neurons develop and release neurotransmitters and form a strong
connection. Stronger the connection becomes, better you get at doing that
specific task.
Let me come to the points. Firstly, we define our limits, there are no predetermined limitations. If your heart says you, to do something, do it, dont be
afraid, dont think of what others say, nor what your mind says yeah most of
the time, even our mind misguides us. We cant blame it, its we who had
trained it that way, and it wont allow us to do things out of our comfort zone.

But if you have love in your heart, you can do it, no matter what. So
understand this. You choose what you are and what you have, in all aspects of
life. If you know somethings right and you are not doing it because of your
fear or something, think of it as a glitch in your neural machinery and do it
immediately. The problem will get solved. Just like repairing a faulty machine,
you are repairing your neural circuits. Its like programming our computer; we
are asking our mind to process the inputs in a different way thats it. Secondly,
if you do something new, want to learn something new, do it with your full
heart, love what you do, be engaged. As I said earlier, it will produce more
neurotransmitters which will strengthen the neural connection and makes you
learn faster. Lastly, pay attention to your thoughts, your thoughts make you.
Have thoughts only of love, love yourself, love your life, and love everything
that comes to you, love everything that surrounds you. It doesnt mean the
love we youths take to mean, but a love which is unexpressed, which is
universal in its scope, which stays in you unknown to others, and manifest
itself in your deeds. If you do it, automatically you will get everything you love.
One thought of love is all that it takes.
So I guess I had said enough, but theres one thing I'd love to say. Be who you
are; dont allow the words of others to pull you down. Dont let the spark in
your eyes fade, be a child throughout your life. Live every moment as if its
your last. Leave off all your mental diseases like ego, anger, fear, hatred, pride
and all these, as they only deprive you off your mental energy. Live with energy
and vitality, carry the light wherever you go and light the lamp of others. Have
your way; lead through it, holding hands with your love (your divine heart) and
the universe is yours to take. Thats it.
