Quick-Start Guide
There are many ways to configure a PeopleSoft Virtual Machine (VM) within a corporate infrastructure. Most
corporate infrastructures have restrictions regarding how a computer should be provisioned. To that end, this
Quick-Start Guide describes how to install it in a basic configuration that is normally appropriate for standalone use, where access to the appliance is only from the host operating system (OS), or for evaluating it for
use in a given infrastructure.
If the intention is to deploy the appliance so that there is remote access to PeopleSoft PeopleTools, the
PeopleSoft Pure Internet Architecture (PIA), or installation files in the VM, consult the document Using Oracle
VM VirtualBox Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications on the PeopleSoft Demo Images Home Page (My
Oracle Support, Document 1552548.1) before proceeding, as many of the network options need to be
configured before the installation procedure is begun.
This Quick-Start Guide assumes that the Demo Images will be used for bug replication or feature review, not
to apply patches with the PUM process.
For information on using PeopleSoft Images for applying PeopleSoft maintenances, see the PeopleSoft
Update Manager Home Page (My Oracle Support, Document 1464619.1).
Important! You need a physical computer with a 64-bit processor to deploy the PeopleSoft Images. The
computer must be able to support hardware virtualization. Review the requirements in Using Oracle VM
VirtualBox Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications, Prerequisites, for details.
To install a PeopleSoft Demo Image, do the following steps:
1. Download and install the current version of Oracle VM VirtualBox from https://www.virtualbox.org.
2. Go to the PeopleSoft Demo Images Home Page and locate the link to the appropriate Demo Image for
your particular need.
3. Download the Demo Image files from the location identified in the previous step.
Note that the image files will be quite large. Use the instructions in Using Oracle VM VirtualBox
Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications to create a single image file.
4. Import the Demo Image VM in Oracle VirtualBox Manager, as described in Using Oracle VM VirtualBox
Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications.
Important! During the import procedure, be sure to select the option Reinitialize the MAC address of all
network cards.
5. Set the network configuration to reflect the intended network access.
Note: As mentioned, this document assumes that the appliance will be accessed from the host OS only,
so that the default of "host-only" should be used.
6. Start the Demo Image VM in Oracle VirtualBox Manager as described in Using Oracle VM VirtualBox
Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications.
Supplemental Documentation
7. If you chose to use a dynamic IP address (DHCP), identify the current IP address by logging in to the
Demo Image VM and running the ifconfig command.
8. Confirm that PIA on the Demo Image VM is running by logging into the Demo Image VM in a browser
with this URL:
http://<Demo_Image_IP>:<8000>/ps/signon.html
9. Install the PeopleSoft PeopleTools client tools on the host machine, using the installation executable on
the Demo Image.
See the section Using the PeopleSoft Installation in Using Oracle VM VirtualBox Appliances for
PeopleSoft Applications.
10. Complete post-installation tasks:
If your PeopleSoft application requires COBOL, obtain and install a COBOL compiler.
See Using COBOL with the PeopleSoft VirtualBox Appliance in Using Oracle VM VirtualBox
Appliances for PeopleSoft Applications.
