First Grade Lesson

Lesson Title: The Three Little Pigs and the Wolf


Grade Level(s): First Grade
Time Allotted: 45 minutes

Instructional Objective: During this lesson students will compare the stories The Three Little
Pigs and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by John Scieszka.
Materials: The book The Three Little Pigs & the book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by
Jon Scieszka. Large poster paper to create:

Differentiation: Show the animated video The Three Little Pigs & the animated video The True
Story of the Three Little Pigs.

Lesson:
Prior Knowledge: Present both stories. Who has read The Three Little Pigs? Who has read The
True story of the Three Little Pigs? Ask students to talk about the stories and give examples
Large Group: I am going read both stories. The first story is the original Three Little Pigs. The
second story is the wolfs version of the story. Each story is told from a different person and

offers a different version. After I read the books we will compare each story. We will make a list
of ways the stories are alike and different.
Differentiation: Show the animated video reenactment of both stories.
Introduce the activity:
I would like to talk about each story. I would like to talk about the different opinions of each
story. Would like to make a list of ways the stories are alike and different. We will compare and
contrast the stories.
Step 1: Discuss the facts in the first story
Step 2: Discuss the facts in the second story.
Step 3: Ask students to list different facts in each story.
Step 4: Ask students to list similarities of each story.
Activity: Use the comparison chart to list the differences and similarities. Review the stories
when necessary for specifics.
Closing: After all the events are in order review chart.
