Slug Test Design

Simple calculation to show if the well will flow to surface
Reservoir Pressure = 1231 psia
Oil Gravity = 0.881
P=

Therefore h =

h
144
3224 ft

(982.8 m)

which comes out to be greater than total depth of 944m

The above calculation shows that well will flow naturally to surface.

Thus still there will be the need to circulate the produced fluids at surface.

Slug Test Design

Sensitivity analysis shows that well is expected to flow with in rage of 520bbl/day

to 1050bbl/day

Slug Test Design

Slug Test is designed using the expected parameters.

One need a duration of at least 0.3 hrs (18min) to

derive the correct permeability of the system

Slug Test Design

Analysing the data generated using Ramey Slug test Type curves.
Type curves is not even close the expected response
This points out clearly that Slug test will not give expected

results

Slug Test Design

Analysing the same data using Pressure Integral method.

It does predicts correct value of permeability but over estimates skin factor.
Does not give us the initial reservoir pressure !

0.3 hrs (18min)

Slug Test Design Conclusions.

1) Well bore volume is small for executing a closed chamber test to derive

expected parameters.
2) During Slug testing there is a possibility that the well will flow naturally to the

surface thus there will be a need to re-circulate the produced fluids.

3) Keeping in view the oil spillage in lake and environmental factors, point no. 2 is

not a good option as well

4) If one chooses to re-circulate the produced fluid, then it is recommended to for

a proper well test analysis job rather than a Slug Test.
