EDUC 522 Evaluation of Instruction

RUBRIC Reflective Response Paper


Due end of Week 3 10 course points
Assignment criteria:
Students will prepare a 3-4 page essay that addresses the question:
What does it mean to teach for understanding and what role does
student assessment play? Drawing upon the course readings presented
during Weeks 1 and 2, students will respond and reflect upon the
questions that represent the big ideas for the course. Papers must be
double spaced, have 1 inch margins on each side and use proper 6 th
edition American Psychological Association (APA) citation and reference
page formatting. Please follow the rubric to ensure that you cover all
necessary assignment criteria for evaluation.
Response papers will be evaluated based on the quality of writing
(clarity, organization, style etc.); breadth and depth of response to
what it means to teach for understanding and the role assessment
plays; integration and analysis of relevant course content and other
related sources; and appropriate references and APA 6 th edition
citational format.
3 points - Paper provides a thorough and comprehensive
response and reflective commentary to what it means to teach
for understanding.
3 points - Paper provides a thorough discussion and reflective
commentary of the role assessment plays in teaching for
understanding.
3 points - Relevant course content and related sources are
utilized to provide appropriate evidence for stated claims
throughout paper. Literature is appropriately referenced as well
as cited using APA format. Direct or paraphrased citations occur
at least 10 times throughout paper.

1 point - Paper is well organized, free of grammatical and


typographical errors; is stylistically sound.
