Exam results

Exam results
Passing an examination is a key part of the APC skills assessment process for
certain overseas trained pharmacists.

Each APC examination is different and covers different knowledge or competency areas. For detailed
information on the content covered in each examination go to thesitting an exam section of our
website.
Once you sit an examination, we mark and verify the examination. Upon completion of this process, you
will be notified that results are available for download from the website. Results are usually posted within
4 to 8 weeks of the examination date.

Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Sciences (KAPS)


To pass the KAPS examination, you must achieve a minimum overall pass mark of 50% in Paper 1 and Paper 2.You

must also achieve 50% in each of the sub-sections in both papers.


You are allowed an unlimited number of attempts at the KAPS examination. You must pass both papers
before receiving a skills assessment letter. If you pass only 1 paper you will have 2 years to pass the
second paper. If you cannot pass the second paper in 2 years you will be required to sit both papers
again.

Competency Assessment of Overseas Pharmacists (CAOP)


To pass the CAOP examination, you must achieve a minimum overall pass mark. The overall pass mark
for each CAOP examination is moderated and therefore is not a fixed percentage.
You must achieve 50% in Domains 2, 4, 6 and 7.
You must achieve 63% in Domain 5.

You are permitted 2 attempts at the CAOP examination.If you fail the CAOP examination twice, you will
be required to sit the KAPS examination prior to receiving a skills assessment letter.

Examination results process


The examination results process is described in detail below.

Step 1: Notification of results

You will receive an email when your examination result is available to view on the APC website.
This email will contain the link to the webpage where you can access your results. The email will
also tell you what information you need to login to access your results.
If you have nominated an agent to act on your behalf, they will receive the notification email.

Step 2: Accessing your result

You will need to login to the examination results page using your APC website username and
password.

Step 3: Results

APC releases its examination results as PASS or FAIL only.


If you fail the examination, you will receive an email providing you with further details on your
result.
If you pass the examination, you will be issued with a skills assessment letter. This letter will be
posted out to your nominated address. If you live outside of Australia, you should allow 4 to 6
weeks for your letter to be delivered before contacting the APC for a re-issued letter.
If you pass, your examination pass result will be valid for APC purposes for 3 years from the date
on the skills assessment letter.

Step 4: Next steps

If you fail the examination, you will need to reapply to sit again.
The APC does not provide counselling to unsuccessful candidates. However, there is a range of
resource materials, including practice papers and suggested references, at Sitting an

examination.
If you pass the examination, you can use the skills assessment letter as part of an application to
the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA) for the commencement of registration process or in a visa
or migration application with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).
