HABER PUTS FORTH ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN

Long Island, NY -- Today, New York State Senate candidate Adam
Haber announced his top environmental policy priorities. Habers
plan focuses around the combination of environmental, social and
economic policies that seek to protect our natural resources,
combat climate change and create more affordable and green
energy on Long Island and across New York State.
We have the ability to both protect our environment while also
harnessing great economic opportunities to create good local
green jobs on Long Island, said Haber. We cant sit back and let
other regions and states beat us to the punch, and must be
leaders in green technology. By working together we can take on
climate change while creating cleaner and more affordable energy
for working families and spur economic growth.
Habers platform includes:
Build a strong coalition of local and state officials and advocates
to stop the EPAs misguided dumping plan in the Long Island
Sound and fight for increased funding for efforts to clean the
Sound from past abuse.
Invest in smart infrastructure upgrades and repairs to protect our
shoreline so that future generations of Long Islanders will be able
to enjoy its beauty while also protecting local homeowners and
businesses. Specifically, we must mitigate waterway

contamination every time it rains and ensure our infrastructure is

updated to prevent water contamination.
Work with stakeholders, including unions, higher education
institutions and the business community, to implement green job
training and socially responsible job transition programs to create
the skilled workforce needed for the green energy jobs of the
present and future.
Implement a program to place receptacles for expired
medications at pharmacies throughout Long Island so they aren't
flushed down the toilet or placed in landfills and ultimately end up
in our aquifers polluting our water.
Identify and use large flat open spaces such as the roof tops of
Long Island's 125 school districts for solar power instead of
cutting down trees for a solar farm. This will reduce costs while
preserving our important green spaces.
Support NY Renews effort to combat climate change by achieving
access to 100% clean and affordable energy by 2050 with a
benchmark goal of 50% by 2030.
Haber concluded, Long Islanders know the real and life altering
impact climate change can have on a community and we must
work to be prepared, especially when it comes to our
infrastructure, for future storms and also be proactive in doing our
part to fight climate change.
Adam Haber has been endorsed by the Long Island Environmental
Voters Forum.
