Contracts$for$which$formalities$are$prescribed:$
Sale$of$land:$must$be$in$writing,$signed$&$prePdate$any$litigation$
Contracts$of$guarantee:$contract$must$be$evidenced$by$a$rate$or$memorandum,$signed$by$party$to$be$bound$

Consumer$contracts:$in$writing$&$must$contain$terms$designed$to$safeguard$the$consumers$interests.$Signature$of$both$
parties$typically$required$&$a$copy$to$be$given$to$consumer.$
Consequences$of$nonPcompliance:$
Common$law:$rights$that$are$independent$of$the$contract$can$be$enforced,$even$if$the$contract$is$not$
Equity:$doctrine$of$part$performance$allows$a$contract$to$be$enforced$where$it$has$been$partly$performed,$to$produce$
an$equitable$outcome$
