Multiple Intelligence Theory

What does the theory say about human intelligence? According to Howard Gardner who
proposed the theory of multiple intelligence that differentiates it into specific modalities rather
than seeing intelligence as dominated by a single general ability. Gardner says that there are
multiple types of human intelligence, each representing different ways of processing information.
He proposed the nation that human beings have not just one type of intelligence, but several.

There are ten intelligences according to Gardner; (1) Musical-rhythmic and harmonic
Intelligence. This area has to do with sensitivity to sound, rhythms, tones, and music. People
with a high musical intelligence normally have good pitch and my even have absolute pitch, and
are able to sing, play musical instruments, and composed music. (2) Visual-Spatial Intelligence.
This area deals with spatial judgment and the ability to visualize with the minds eye. Spatial
ability is one of the three factors beneath g in the hierarchical model of intelligence. (3) VerbalLinguistic Intelligence. People with high verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with
words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing
words along with dates. (4) Logical-Mathematical Intelligence. This area has to do with logic,
abstractions, reasoning, numbers and critical thinking. This is also has to do with having the
capacity to understand the underlying principles of some kind of casual system. Logical
reasoning is closely linked to fluid intelligence and to general intelligence. (5) Bodily-

Kinesthetic Intelligence. The core intelligence of bodily-kinesthetic intelligence is control of

ones ability motion and capacity to handle objects skillfully. People who have high bodilykinesthetic intelligence should be generally good at physical activities such as sport, dance,
acting, and making things. (6) Interpersonal Intelligence. In theory, individuals who have high
interpersonal intelligence are characterized by their sensitivity to others moods, feelings,
temperaments and motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group.
Those with high interpersonal intelligence communicate effectively and empathize easily with
others, and may be a better leaders or followers. (7) Intrapersonal Intelligence. This area has to
do with introspective and self-reflective capacities. This refers to having a deep understanding of
the self; what ones strengths or weaknesses are, what makes one unique, being able to predict
ones own reactions or emotions. (8) Naturalistic Intelligence. Natural tendency to classify and
discriminate among elements in a complex system; interest in nature and natural phenomena;
pattern recognition and ability to categorize and recognize individual examples as belonging to a
group; can map and chart relationships. (9) Spiritual Intelligence. Gravitates toward religion,
theology, mysticism and the transcendent. Concern with cosmic issues, supernatural, meaning of
life's event; spends time in altered states such as meditation, self-hypnosis, and prayer; and
connects with others in non-ordinary ways that may help and heal the other. (10) Existential
Intelligence. Concern with ultimate issues; continuity of spirit between lifetimes; sense of
relationship with beings of other planes and the cosmos.
Referring to the intelligences that mentioned I think the tree (3) intelligences that I poses
are; first is the Intrapersonal Intelligence because I have good sense of self. I like to spend time
by myself and think things over. Taking information from another person, mull it over by myself,
and comeback to that person later to discuss it. I like working on projects by my own. Second is

the Musical Intelligence because I like rhythm and sound of language. I also like songs and
jingling. I enjoy humming or singing along with music. I remember things well when they are
associated with music or rhythm. When I was in my fourth year class my teacher in Economics
chose me as a participant for singing and composing contest because some of my classmate told
him that I know how play guitar and I am fun in writing lyrics. So no choice I have to grab that
contest and unfortunately I didnt won but its not that bad after all because my teacher told me
that I got the 5th place which is not bad for a first timer. And lastly the Spatial Intelligence I think
I got this ability because I can remember things visually, including exact sizes and shapes and
objects. I like posters, charts, and graphics. I also like any kind of visual clues. I enjoy drawing.
To be honest during my high school days Ive joined several drawing and poster making contest
and usually I won.
