Comparing Local and National Economy: Nayarit and Mxico

On this paper we will analyze and compare our local and national
economy as a way to highlight meaningful differences between them.
Many factors can affect a development and performance of an economy,
knowing this, we will consider Mxico and Nayarit as two different
economies.
Nayarit is one of the smallest states in Mxico with nearly 1.260
million people, being Tepic his capital with nearly 332,000 people. It is
located between the Sierra Madre Occidental and the coast of the Pacific
Ocean. Due to the fact that it embraces some of the most beautiful
beaches in the country, Nayarit has become and inclined most of his
economy to enforce and develop tourism areas. Actually, 71% of the
population works in this field meaning the tertiary sector. 21% works in
the secondary sector and only 8% of the population works in the primary
sector.
One of the most important factors to look at to determine how an
economy is doing compared to others is the GDP. Nayarit has a GDP of
87,770 millions of pesos contributing to a .66 percent of the total GDP in
the country. It is relatively low compared to other states in Mxico;
however, there are many factors that contribute to this. Population is
one of the principal factors; as mentioned before, Nayarit has one of the

lowest populations of the country. People are labor, if an economy lacks

labor, its economic growing expectations will decline. In contrast,
Nayarits GDP has had a incredible growth in the last 3 years, having a
4.2 percent annual growth of the GDP; one of the highest in the country.
Education is another important factor we have to consider in
evaluating an economy. Educated people are also human capital, which
directly contributes to the economic growth of a country.

In Nayarit

5.5% of the population never received education, and 53% went until
elementary school. Just the 22% of the population actually get to finish a
career. This can also have an impact on the GDP since less prepared
people means less tools to innovate and growth.
Unemployment rate is one of the most important factors to
consider; this determines how close can an economy be of the PPF. The
unemployment rate in Nayarit is of 5.5%, meaning that the government
is not using this labor to its benefit.

On the other hand, Mexico is a country who has being developed

and has been growing for a couple of years now. Its population is near
125,385,833 millions of people. It GDP is 1,082 billion dollars. Mexicos
GDP has been growing from 2009 until 2014. In 2015 and 2016 it has
experienced an 8% decline.
The unemployment rate is 4.3% of the total labor force being this
relatively high percentage. Another important factor to consider is the
poverty level, in Mexico 1% is in poverty. 2.5% of the population does
not have access to education. Also, 60% of the population work on the
tertiary sector, a 25% work on the secondary sector and just a 15% on
the primary sector.

Comparing Economies
If we compare the economic sectors of both economies, we might
realize that Mxico and its states are mainly based on tourism; in giving
services to someone else. Both economies have a huge difference on the
tertiary sector compared to the other two sectors. The country and its
states have decided to focus on what they can exploit easily. We are not
a country of production; we are a country of services. On the other hand,
we both economies related on the primary sector, as the time pass,
Mxico has led this sector behind.
The unemployment rate surprisingly was lower in the country than
in the state. This can be mainly because Nayarit is a relatively small
state that is growing in the tertiary sector, and most of the people of this
sector need at least high school in order to be accepted in companies.
Since 5.5% of people never received education and 53% just went to
elementary school, the jobs are restricted for a few.
The GDP is higher in Mxico than in Nayarit obviously. However,
what is interesting about this is that Nayarits GDP has been growing by
a 4.2% annually. In contrast, Mxico GDP has shrink by an 8% in the last
two years. This reflects how Nayarit is also growing as a state and as a
potential economy.

In conclusion, both economies have made the transition from the

primary sector to the tertiary sector. The country has not been
productive when producing; both economies are better at providing
services
