ADVANTAGES

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

It uses air as refrigerant, so there is no leakage problem.

Vortex tube is simple in design and it avoids control systems
There are no moving parts in vortex tube.
It is light in weight and requires less space.
Initial cost is low and its working expenses are also less, where compressed air is

readily available.
6. Maintenance is simple and no skilled labors are required.

FUTURE SCOPE
1. Vortex tubes are extremely small and as it produce hot as well as cold air. It may be of
use in industries where both are simultaneously required.
2. Vortex tubes are used for cooling of cutting tools (lathes and mills) during machining.
3. It is commonly used for body cooling of the workers in mines.

CONCLUSION

The working principle of a Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube has been investigated by many
researchers, and several explanations have been offered, which include pressure gradient,
acoustic streaming, friction and viscosity, secondary circulation, and static temperature
gradient.
The current phase of our research project described in this paper is to fabricated the
vortex tube with the easily available resources, from the study done so far on vortex tube
we already know that its C.O.P. is very less and we wanted to study it practically. Vortex
tube also involves second law of thermodynamics which shows the degradation of energy
from a higher quality and quantity to lower quality and quantity. The study is successfully
made by using a separate compressor. This compressed air for the practical application
should be taken from other resources where it is going waste. Utilizing waste is always a
warming issue for the industries. We hope that this study will play an important role in the
future scope of this project.
The maximum temperature difference of 9C is obtained in cold end side & hot end
side.
At 5 bar inlet pressure, 45 valve and 90 valve give the best result. The result with
helical convergent nozzle is with divergent tube is compared with literature available and
it is found that results are in good agreement with previous work. Hence, vortex tube can
be used for any type of spot cooling or spot heating application
