OPEN HOUSE MAHALO!


What a wonderful turn out! The Cub Scouts from Pack 12 assisted
in the preparation and serving of the refreshments, West Hawaii
Community Health Center staff shared information about their
services as well as offered blood pressure readings for those who
were interested and Kama'aina Kids provided FREE books. All
classes reported high attendance rates - overall average was
about 70% participation. Parents, guardians, aunties, uncles,
grandparents...thank you for your support of your child's
learning. See you again at Parent Conferences scheduled for Oct
31 - Nov 4, 2016

School Uniforms & Orders are in and are available for pick up from the Health Room between the hours of 7:30 am - 1:30 pm. It is
preferred that an adult come to collect the order. Orders will not be sent home with the student. Please contact Ms. Rubio if you
have any questions. Mahalo for your understanding.

The State Smarter Balance Assessment Family Report will be provided to parents during the Parent-Teacher Conferences in October.
The report is about your child's performance on the Hawaii Smarter Balanced English & Math assessments given this past Spring
2016.. If your child was in the 4th grade he/she was also assessed on Science Hawaii State Assessment. Please review the document
and ask your child's teacher about his/her progress in school. For more information about this assessment go to: alohahsap.org
**Parent-Teacher Conferences will be next month from Monday October 31 - Friday November 4, 2016. Please make a note that
SCHOOL WILL END AT 1:00 PM MONDAY - THURSDAY. If your child does not ride the school bus and does not have a
conference scheduled please make arrangements to have your child picked up at 1:00 pm. Mahalo for your attention in this matter.
Picture Taking Day is coming up! Next Wednesday, September 28. Please don't forget to send to
school on Wednesday your child's money envelope. If you have any questions please feel free to call
the school at 328-2727.
The Department of Health will be on campus tomorrow Friday, September 23, 2016 at 8:30 am in the Cafeteria. They will be
presenting information regarding updates and the impact that mosquitos have had on Hawaii. You are welcome to join us and ask
questions.
On October 7 at 8:45 am, infant researcher Dr. Robert Titzer will give a workshop on early learning. Dr. Titzer present tips to parents on how to
teach language skills during the early years of life. New research shows that teaching language skills may also influence the childs brain processing
speed. Dr. Titzer will give tips related to learning language skills, reading, math, and music. He will also take individual questions from parents.
Please attend the free seminar at 8:45 am at the school cafeteria on October 7.
We will begin our after school ELL Tutorial next Tuesday, September 27. Tutoring will be twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday
from 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm. All active ELL students were provided an application. If translation services is needed
Ms. Elena Borisoff will be available. Please contact Cherie Okada-Carlson our SSC at 328-2727.
