Particles: The main scientific objective of the following project is to develop the method of the synthesis of
innovative, functional magnetic iron oxide based nanomaterials (MNP), and the use of the obtained products, as
a support for LPS sequestration process. Physicochemical, structural and useful properties of such materials are
strongly dependent on the selection of a proper synthesis method. It is planned to synthesize the MNPs via
hydro- or solvothermal method, co-precipitation or utilizing microwave reactor. Influence of the most important
synthesis parameters, such as pH, temperature, and substrates molar ratio will be verified in order to define the
final properties of the obtained materials. The aim is to define optimal technological assumptions concerning
the synthesis of MNPs with relative high affinity towards LPS sequestration process. The synthesized materials
will be thoroughly characterized applying advanced analytical techniques including scanning and transmission

microscopies, EDX, X-ray diffraction, non-invasive back scattering. Moreover, the electrokinetic and thermal
stability as well as magnetic properties will be estimated. Taking into account the further application of MNPs
in sequestration process of LPS, the evaluation of parameters of the porous structure (surface area, pore size
and volume) will be also important.
