1. Place the soil container on the scale and record the weight of the container + soil on the
Data Sheet.
2. Raise the soil container over the nest of sieves and while holding the mousedown click
the ctrl button to pour the soil into the sieves. Then mount the sieves into the sieve shaker.
3. Start the sieve shaker, When the timer goes off. Weigh each of the sieves. Starting from
the top sieve (coarest). Record the weight of each sieve on the Data Sheet. Then take each
sieve off the scale and stack it to the right on the table.
4. Examine the graph and pick out the d10, d30, d50 and d60 passing and enter the values
into the Data Sheet. (A d value corresponds to the grain size for the specified pecent
passing. E.g., d10 is the grain size in mm that corresponds to 10% passing.
5. Using the Unified Soil Classification System, classify the soil.
