Spreadsheet License Agreement

Agreement and Acceptance of Terms and Conditions. You should carefully read the following terms and
conditions before using this spreadsheet. By using this spreadsheet, you are agreeing to and indicating your
acceptance of these terms and conditions.
License. Ram's Horn Educational, LLC hereby grants to you a limited non-exclusive license to use this
spreadsheet in conformance with the terms and conditions set forth. All title and ownership of the
spreadsheet and all other rights not expressly granted to you under this Agreement, remain with Ram's Horn
Educational, LLC. You may use the spreadhseet on only one computer at a time. You may transfer the
spreadsheet to another computer providing that any previously installed copy on any other computer has
been uninstalled and deleted. Subject to the foregoing limitation, you may not copy or reproduce the
spreadsheet for any purpose, except to make one (1) archival copy of the spreadsheet, in machine readable
or printed form, for back up purposes only, in support of the use of the spreadsheet on a single computer.
Term of License. This license is effective until terminated by either party. You may terminate this license at
any time by destroying all copies and installations of the spreadsheet. The license will also terminate without
notice if you fail to comply with any term or condition of this Agreement. Upon termination, you must delete
the spreadsheet.
Copyright. This spreadsheet is protected by both United States copyright law and international treaty
provisions, and all rights are reserved by .Ram's Horn Educational, LLC
Restrictions on the use of printable or savable material. This spreadsheet provides you with the ability to
print files and images on paper or save certain files in electronic form. This license restricts printing and
saving to only that material specifically identified as printable or savable during the normal course of use of

Grain Size Analysis

Before you begin save this spreadsheet using

your name. E.g., "grainsize_robbins.xls"
Instructions

1. Place the soil container on the scale and record the weight of the container + soil on the
Data Sheet.
2. Raise the soil container over the nest of sieves and while holding the mousedown click
the ctrl button to pour the soil into the sieves. Then mount the sieves into the sieve shaker.
3. Start the sieve shaker, When the timer goes off. Weigh each of the sieves. Starting from
the top sieve (coarest). Record the weight of each sieve on the Data Sheet. Then take each
sieve off the scale and stack it to the right on the table.
4. Examine the graph and pick out the d10, d30, d50 and d60 passing and enter the values
into the Data Sheet. (A d value corresponds to the grain size for the specified pecent
passing. E.g., d10 is the grain size in mm that corresponds to 10% passing.
5. Using the Unified Soil Classification System, classify the soil.
