PERFORMANCE TASK 3.1 in MATHEMATICS III
Task:
Geometric figures drawn in circles and drawn about circles have many
interesting characteristics. You will rely on your knowledge of congruent triangles as
you discover some of these characteristics.
For centuries, artists have used the simple elegance of the circle in their
designs. Some have crafted intertwining patterns that like the circle itself have no
beginning and no end. Some have disturbed the symmetry of the circle to create
optical illusions such as the paintings of Alma Thomas.
In your performance task, you will explore some of the techniques used through
the ages to produce circular art. You will then apply your discoveries to create a
dizzying design. You will see why some artists find that giving in circles may be the
best way to reach their objective.
Place your circular art on short bond paper. Your work will be evaluated on
the applications of concept in circles, creativity and visual impact.
