This program designed to provide options in advanced research training, specialised coursework
studies and professional skills development. It is also designed in consultation with national and
international educators, as well as government and industry employers, the Master of Science
prepares students for a career in industry and research. It is also a foundation for entry into the
Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). As a pathway to PhD studies, the
Master of Science has a key component in the form of a research project. This provides ideal
preparation for potential research higher degree studies or sufficient expertise for graduates to be
considered experts in a scientific field. Epidemiology is the scientific method used to track
population health, to find cause of disease (and health) and to identify ways to prevent disease. It
is often called the basic science of public health, but its principles extend to clinical research and
practice. Epidemiologists are the medical detectives for populations. They solve puzzles about
who gets diseases, what causes disease and how to prevent disease. Students will have the ability
to undertake independent research in Epidemiology with the potential to progress to a PhD
degree. Epidemiologists are in high demand because of a national shortage. Graduates of this
course can expect to find employment in organisations like: medical research institutes,
Universities, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, non-profit organisations,
Government, hospitals.

Students must have completed a bachelor degree with a major in an
appropriate discipline and a grade of at least an H3 (65 per cent) in
the major, or equivalent. English language requirements: IELTS
minimum overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0); TOEFL
(paper-based) minimum score of 577 and score of 4.5 in Test of
Written English (TWE); TOEFL (internet-based) minimum score of 79
and minimum scores of writing 21; speaking 18; reading 13; and,
listening 13; Pearson Test of English (Academic) 58-64 inclusive and

no communicative skill below 50; and Certificate of Advanced

English (CAE) score of 58 plus no less than Borderline in each skill.
