I. INTRODUCTION
The internet provided the world a new way for communicating
even across borders of every nation. It gave the world a mass
network of information and communication, in the form of Social
Media, which is now a phenomenon, and a growing trend. Social
Media started growing in the early 20th century and is now place of
mainstream media and social activity. As it started growing, it also
captured the attention of students in different generations, likewise
it presented some advantages and disadvantages to students.
The purpose of this research is to raise awareness if students
balance their time between the use of Internet and Social Media, and
studying for academic prowess , to determine if Social Media can
affect a students academic performance, and to help students
understand the use of social media whether it is a nuisance to their
studies or not.

II. DISCUSSION
Social Media has become the easiest medium of information
spread and communication, because of how it is easy to use, and
access. As such, we must know what Social Media is frequently used
by students and if it could really help them.
We also must know if Social Media in general can affect a
students academic performance, how using it can cause a change in
their studying habits, if it is a necessity for students to use, and to
understand if Social Media is a hindrance for studies.

CHAPTER 4:
SUMMARY

IV. SUMMARY
The gathered data show that almost all students in the school
has Social Media accounts, and most of them use Facebook, Twitter,
and other Social Media sites. Usage in Social Media showed normal
to high rate ranging from 4 to 6 hours.
Corresponding to the high usage of Social Media and the
Internet, students tend to allot shorter time for studying. All in all,
most students consume their time studying for only 1 to 3 hours;
some even spend less than an hour for it. Daily Social Media
participation is normal, and is part of a students lives.
Several respondents think that Social Media can help improve
studies; however, it depends on the usage of Social Media with the
reason of easy access to information and communication. Statistics
also show that most students spend their time on plain
communication, while doing certain research and homework have
relatively low figures. The respondents opinions regarding the use of
Social Media for accessibility of information and communication in
relation to academic purposes were divided: 53% of the samples
agree, while 47% do not, reasoning that the Internet and Social
Media can distract students while studying.

CHAPTER 5:
CONCLUSION

V. CONCLUSION
Social Media has different uses, how a person use it, and how a
student use his allotted time when using it. It can entirely affect his
academic performance. As detailed in the gathered data, students
mostly use their entire time in using the Internet Social Media for
communication purposes, and a smaller amount of students use it
for academic development.
Evidently, these figures show the significance of the Internet
and the Social Media to the youth, and has changed the publics
view on the use of Social Media, as a place created only for
communicating as a sole reason for it to exist. Their advantages and
disadvantages may affect not just a students academic and social
life, but also how he sees himself as a netizen. This reflects a neutral
stance in regards to the widespread use of Social Media that
technology can bring positive and negative outcomes.
To conclude, the use of Social Media will change a students
academic performance depending on the students capacity to
stabilize his time on studies and socializing. In general, a student
should think, understand, and balance his time in doing his projects,
reports, or assignments before using his extra time in leisure time or
the use of Social Media, in doing so, the use of Social Media will not
affect his academic performance, as to whether it will make his
grades higher or lower.
