1. Thinking about the things that you saw in the vice video about child suicide
bombers, which particular macro and micro level causes mentioned in the book
might be at play for the child suicide bombers? Are there other causes (not
mentioned in the book) that might explain why VICE children attempted to engage
in terrorism?
Nothing that involves terrorism is micro-level, the VICE child suicide bombers video was
horrific that was some macro-level terrorism. Even though it was recorded we cannot
fathom the grandeur of it all just because

macro is on a large scale and cannot be observed while

micro is on a very small scale and can be observed or identified.

2. Similarly, thinking about the interview with Dr. Faris about Islamic State, and the
VICE news video on Islamic State, which particular macro and micro level causes
mentioned in the book might be at play for the creation of Islamic State? Are there
other causes (not mentioned in the book) that might explain why Islamic State
members have engage in terrorism?

As you make it through the remaining parts of the Week 2 lecture material, readings,
and videos, I encourage you to think also think about the causes of terrorism (as
covered in the G & K chapter that you read), as well as the HBO VICE video that you
watched on child suicide bombers, the interview with Dr. David Faris about Islamic State,
and the VICE news video on Islamic State. Taken together, these readings/videos
demonstrate that there are many causes of terrorism. For PART 2 of this week's
discussion board, please answer the following questions:

1. Thinking about the things that you saw in the VICE video about child suicide
bombers, which particular macro- and micro-level causes mentioned in the book might
be at play for the child suicide bombers? Are there other causes (not mentioned in the
book) that might explain why the VICE children attempted to engage in terrorism?
2. Similarly, thinking about the interview with Dr. Faris about Islamic State, and the VICE
news video on Islamic State, which particular macro- and micro-level causes mentioned
in the book might be at play for the creation of Islamic State? Are there other causes
(not mentioned in the book) that might explain why Islamic State members have
engaged in terrorism?
