The efficiency of Galaxy VM is higher than Delphys Green Power at every load, the
difference begin more obvious at higher level loads. The Galaxy VM efficiency curve is
nearly flat down to 25% load, saving power and cooling costs and significantly reducing
the overall total cost of ownership.
Electricity savings
Rule of thumb:
+1% efficiency improvement @ 100kW = -800 savings per year
(1)

kWh price = 0.08

In the tables, different energy saving cases are presented after 1 year, 5 years and
10 years. Saving energy is of great importance, because every percentage of efficiency
directly affects total cost of ownership (TCO) of the UPS system over time.
Table: UPS in double conversion mode
Formula:
Annual energy saving = Pu x (1/

- 1/ s) x H x C

Pu = kW at UPS output
c = Delphys Green Power efficiency
s = Galaxy VM efficiency
H = number of hours in 1 year (8760 hours)
C = kWh price = 0.08

Schneider offers significant energy savings over the lifetime of the product.

2. High impact on OPEX thanks to the econversion mode

With econversion mode, Schneider gives to the customer the best efficiency.
The system consists to switch on bypass mode the UPS. Efficiency increases up to
98.5%.
System works with 100% non-linear load and the transfer time is 0 ms.
Thanks to a fast transfer, classification of this function is class 1 (the best):

econversion mode also has an impact on the all electrical equipments (cable,
transformer, genset, switchgear, circuit-breaker) installed upstream of the UPS.
During this mode, the UPS inverter compensates the main disturbances such as the load
THDi and the load PF.
Delphys Green Power doesnt have this function.

3. Fully compatible with diesel generator

Galaxy VM is fully compatible with a generator:
Large input voltage window
Large input frequency window
Low input THDI at varying load rates
High input PF.

Also with a large input voltage window and a large input frequency window, the battery is
less solicited. Life expectancy of the battery is not reduced.

4. Swappable battery modules and fans for highest system availability

To minimize MTTR, some components in the Galaxy VM are swappable by the user, and
operation procedures have been simplified. Some procedures have been reduced to 10
minutes MTTR (by an operator). For the same action, the Delphys Green Power
procedure requires 1 hour MTTR or more (by a service technician) to replace the
batteries.

Galaxy VM is designed to replace each component separately. The

component (one fan or one battery module), the load remains
protected during a replacement.

Narrow and wide modular

battery cabinets

For Delphys Green Power, batteries and fans are not swappable or fast replaceable.
MTTR to replace the traditional batteries or fans is very long.
During a battery or fan replacement, Socomec transfers the load on maintenance bypass.
Load is supplied but not protected.

5. Advanced battery management included on modular battery offer

Galaxy VM includes a battery management as standard offer (only for modular batteries).
With advanced monitoring capabilities, the Galaxy VM UPS detects failing battery string
before they can become a problem:
Each individual string monitors and reports its current and voltage.
Quickly identify and replace faulty battery units.
Faulty string is identified with an alarm on display and Led in the modular battery
cabinet.
Delphys Green Power doesnt include a battery management as standard offer. However
they have an optional battery management: BHC Interactive offer.

6. Better maintenance advice to guarantee installation availability

The "Life Cycle Monitoring" (LCM) function provides UPS maintenance advice to
guarantee installation availability for the user.
The display gives 3 messages enabling the following to be identified:
The end of the contractual legal warranty: "End of warranty check recommended".
Regular maintenance requirements and the end of service life for consumable
components: "Technical check recommended".
The end of the battery service life: "Battery check required".
Benefits:
Better installation availability.
Better maintenance planning.
Delphys Green Power doesnt have this system.

7. Galaxy VM more robust and meets typical industry standard

Benefit
The advantage of the overload capability is to supply a higher power (in-rush currents)
during transient period. And that without transfer the load on AC bypass source (reserve
source).
Case in point
The load in-rush currents come from:
Transformer magnetizing,
Starting of variable-speed drive,
When additional servers are added in a
datacenter,
Loss of one UPS in the case of parallel
configuration,
Loads supplied with STS, STS transfers the load
from Priority source (UPS1) to Secondary source
(UPS2).

200 kVA: 135%

The overload capability of the Delphys Green Power doesnt allow meeting this need.
During this transient period the load will be transferred on AC bypass source. The load will
be not protected by the UPS.

8. Conform in terms of safety

In order to avoid electric shock hazard, that may be caused by backfeed of energy via the
electronic static switch (on AC Bypass source) or via the input rectifier (on AC Normal
source), an external or internal disconnector must be installed in conformity with the
Product Standard IEC62040-1 paragraph 5.1.4.
Galaxy VM integrates in standard the backfeed protection. This complete offer integrates
2 contactors: 1 contactor on AC Normal source and 1 contactor on AC Bypass source.
The backfeed contactors are installed inside UPS.
For Delphys Green Power, the backfeed protection is an option. To get the same safety
level, Socomec must propose this option
the UPS price will increase.
The backfeed protection proposed by Socomec is a light offer. The backfeed contactor is
controlled by a communication card. The contactor is external and it must be installed by
the customer inside the Distribution Panel.
Extract of the Socomecs User Manual:

The price of the contactor and its installation is supported by the customer.
For Galaxy VM, there are:
No additional price for the customer. All components (backfeed contactors and their
controlled card) are included in the standard offer/price.
No additional time to install the back feed contactors.

9. Graphic touch screen display

Galaxy VM is equipped with a 7 touch screen color display.
The Delphys Green Power UPS is designed with a standard graphic display.
The Galaxy VM touch screen interface benefits:
- Operator Instructions: provides detailed essential UPS operating procedures,
- Animated Mimic Diagrams:
- System-Level and Module Level,
- Indicates major component status, power flow, and breaker position,
- Alarm/event log: time/date stamp for all alarms,
- Detailed component status: indicates operating status and values for input, battery,
rectifier, inverter, and output,

10. Schneider employs redundant displays

The mimic diagram of the Delphys Green Power is included on the graphic display.
Potential failure scenario: If the display ceases to operate, the customer or field engineer
doesnt have any more access to the status of the UPS.
With Galaxy VM, the customer or field engineer always has access to the status of the UPS.

11. ON/OFF buttons to start and stop the UPS without display instructions
No ON/OFF buttons (the function is controlled by using the keypad on display) could
result in loss of load a number of loss of load incidences occur as a result of human
error and lack of training. The lack of a physical ON/OFF (Socomec provides virtual
buttons on a front mounted screen) this could contribute to a critical loss under certain
conditions.
8

Potential failure scenario: If the UPS unit is in RUN mode and the display ceases to
operate (vibration, electrostatic discharge), how can you transfer the UPS to bypass for
maintenance?
Firstly, the UPS will be stopped by the
opening of the output switch, secondly
the opening of the rectifier switch in
the second time
Load loss!
