OCTOBER 2016
OCTOBER SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
Peace Sunday School students have been learning all about the
Lords Prayer. We hope that by the time we finish our four
rotations that they know the prayer by heart. They should be
practicing the Lords Prayer at home as much as they can.
On October 9th, our community service project will be collecting
food shelf items. If we can come collect at your house, please let
us know. All others are encouraged to bring items to church
that day. Please do not bring expired items as they will not be
accepted from the Food Shelves and will be discarded. Thank
you!
We will be presenting Spark Bible Storybooks and Spark Bibles to
our students on October 16th. Well be sending out letters to
parents with details.
Our next rotation is Advent and Christmas which will take us
up to November 20th when we begin our Christmas Program
practice. Our Christmas program will be presented on Sunday,
December 18th at 10:30 am.
We still have no teacher in our Games room. If you can teach
just one Sunday, please let Joyce know. The game Sundays
include:
October 2nd, October 16th, January 29th, February 19th,
March 19th, and April 23rd

Peace Council Meeting Minutes August 10th, 2016

Present: Tom G., Lois S., Charles J., Pastor Don, Dawn R., Marilyn F.
Absent: Leon, Brenda L., Jennifer M., Gwen R., Sandy K.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Tom Gardner at 6:06 p.m.
Devotions were led by Pastor Don with the focus on how the Peace congregation responds to anxiety. Discussion within the group
present regarding positive and negative stressors from our past, and how we responded and/or reacted to the events identified. A challenge for the future is how we as a leadership team will react to potential future transitional situations.
Kyries and Glorias: Highs and lows were collectively shared by the council with an emphasis on recent community losses and being
alert to our neighbor(s). A special Kyries and Glorias for the Peace family is the exceptional effort and coordination for the ongoing
vacation bible school program Joyce and her team of volunteers have put together this week. Leadership and devotion supported that
ministry.
Motion made by Marilyn with a second by Lois to accept all of the administrative reports as printed and/or reported by Pastor Don.
Motion carried. A reminder from Pastor Don for the council to consider the synod stewardship seminar scheduled for August 23rd at
the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead.
We offer up our concerns of the past (old business)
Charles Johnson will obtain a fuel contract for LP for the upcoming heating season. Finalize in September.
Offering for August Sing a Long will be divided between the two local food shelves and Someplace Safe
Tom Gardner is in discussion with school district regarding release time. More definite plans will be firmed up at the special council meeting which will be held on August 24th at 6 p.m.
We offer our concerns for the future (new business)
Fall Festival will be held on September 11th with a pot luck meal celebrated after worship. Tom will work with Admin Sandy on
utilizing the newsletter and social media to make the schedule known to community.
Sunday school classes will coincide with fall festival on September 11 th. Times to be announced.
Gwen R. due to scheduling issues will not be able to continue to serve on council. Church constitution and by-laws will determine
the replacement process. To be determined at the September meeting.
Discussion re: confirmation ministry. Based on recent completed congregational surveys and a detailed report from Jennifer M.
{who led the confirmation program last year}, the council has completed due diligence on the feasibility of paid Youth Director Position within the church leadership. A job description draft has been presented to the council. A motion was made by
Charles J. with a second by Lois S. to hire Heather Danner for the Youth Activities Director starting August 15 th, 2016 as per
the job description which is presently applicable (during our transitional period) at an hourly wage of $12.50/hour with a collective evaluation of the program in 90 days. Motion carried. The Youth Activities Director will work closely with the interim
Pastor and the council to further the confirmation and release time ministries. Formal announcement to the congregation will
be made on August 21st by Chairman Tom G.
Church Bus driver: A job description has been drafted. Final approval pending.
Motion was made by Tom G. with a second by Marilyn to purchase a copy machine for the church basement for approximately
$750.00. A service contract will also be purchased. Motion carried. Admin. Sandy will complete the negotiation with Viking
Office Supply.
Approval from the council is pending for the vision and mission statement at the councils August 24 th special meeting. Congregational meeting regarding the statement will be scheduled.
Pastor Don and Dawn will research a potential recipient for the green LBW hymn books which have been stored in the church
basement for a number of years. Recommendation pending.
We offer our prayers: Pastor Don offered prayers reflecting our thanksgiving for Gods presence in our ministry; Gods calling and
equipping us for leadership and prayerful support for our entire community during these transitional times.
