Ways to improve English


Cheng : All of you know the importance of English. It is the language of knowledge,
international communication and trade. So, we should avoid from the mistake we
had shown just now. There are many ways to improve our English.

Chong : The very first thing you have to do is to read more. Read newspapers,
books and magazines. There is no other way that is more effective than reading.
There are no short-cuts to mastering the English Language. You have to read more
and you have to do it for some time before you can see the results.

Goh : Secondly, besides learning to read English, we must learn to understand


spoken English, and practice speaking. Try listen to radio stations, if at first
you don't understand, keep listening and maintain a regular habit of listening
to radio stations. Repeat after the broadcast and learn how to pronounce
correctly and frequently.

Cheng : Parents should teach their children English at home. The most important
thing you must give your children lots of encouragement and praise. Your child will

pick up on your enthusiasm for the language. Dont worry if your child doesnt start
speaking English immediately. They will need a certain amount of time to absorb the
language. Be patient, and they will begin to speak English in their own time

Chong : As a teacher, we must improve our English by avoiding form using broken
English meanwhile using interesting and creative teaching skills in class. Teacher
can give some activities such as group discussion to student and helps students to
speak English in group. If you want to show a certain mistake to a student, instead of
saying "Oh! this is not correct, ..." or "You made a mistake, ..." you'd better say
"Maybe you should change this or that ..." or "Why don't you use ...".

Goh : In conclusion, There is no short cut to learning English. Persistence is


the major secrets of success. If you want use English as your native language,
don't ever give up trying to achieve your goal. If we are prepared to work hard
at it, we will be successful in the end.
