PBL ACTIVITIES/SIMULATION (week 5 and 7) 40%

/10

Simulation is a classroom activity that needs to be carried out following

directions given by the lecturer. Several activities include problem solving,
case studies, video analysis, etc. Scoring will be given to students based
on participation in the activities as well as group performance. The
simulation will be conducted 2 times throughout the running of the
course, with each evaluation worth a total of 20 marks.

Forms of simulations
Simulations are conducted in class applying the concept of a workshop,
where groups are formed and marks are given for each session (2
sessions). The activities are as follows:

Critical thinking and problem solving

Case study:
To instil deep acknowledgement of critical thinking, students will be given
a problem that must be solved in groups. The case facts are based on
actual events. Through this method, students are given the opportunity to
share opinions and think critically in order to solve the problem. Moreover,
it can also be a way for students to learn and make example of the
events. Several examples of cases that can be discussed are Samsung vs.
Apple, dream organization etc.
Leadership and teamwork
Case study:
In order to instil leadership, students will be given cases to be solved. The
case facts are based on actual events. Through this method, students are
given a chance to apply leadership skills and lead group members to solve
the problem. Besides that, it can also be a way for students to learn and
make example of the events.
In order to encourage teamwork within groups, each student must
attempt to solve a given problem. Throughout the activity, the level of
teamwork displayed by students will be assessed.
EXAMPLE OF THE ACTIVITIES:

Activity 1: Communication (20%)

1. Get into groups of 5-6people. Search for a lecturer/staff at UMP who

working in the industries.
3. Try to relate their answer to leadership, team working and
communication skills.
4. Present your data by using power point.
5. Presentation should not be more than 10min and 10 slides.
