QUESTION NO:4
Review the section on personalization/customization on page 17 and then find two Web
sites that employ personalization or customization techniques. In what ways do the sites
use these techniques? Prepare a short report and summarizing your findings.

Personalization and Customization:

personyze.com:
Personyze behavioral targeting and personalization offers a powerful solution that helps
you personalize your website and provide highly targeted content and design to
maximize user experience and conversion rate. Personalization is based on visitors'
demographics, characteristics, social profile and behavior in the website.
Personyze Profiler enables real time adaptation of the websites visual and content
elements based on specific criteria different people can have a completely different
experience while visiting the same website. With zero-integration technology,
personalized content and design can be automatically applied to the entire site
without any resources from your IT or Design team.
WAYS:
1. Know the details without asking
2. Personalized content

3. Engagement
4. Sales enablement
SUMMARY:
Personalize the website per visitor with relevant ads and products to increase user
experience, customer satisfaction and engagement. Personalize the website per visitor
with relevant banners, links, and information to increase response.

MyYahoo.com:
My Yahoo! is one of the forerunners among the growing number of my services that
have been springing up on the Internet over the last few years. The authors cite the
following as important features within the Yahoo! services:
Granularity of choiceinformation can be personalised at a fine level. Both content and
layout can be customised. Some content is automatically personalised according to the
users profile (e.g. Yahoo! requests the users birth date on registration, and then
automatically enters the horoscope for the correct star sign.
SUMMARY:
Yahoo! holds all its user information in a specially designed user database that
concentrates on speed of delivery. This database also uses high levels of security, and
Yahoo! use a security audit company to constantly evaluate and review security
policies.

QUESTION NO:5
Review Insight on Society: Online Privacy: Is the Age of Privacy Over? on pages 4648,
and in particular, the types of personal data that Facebook collects. Then visit Yahoo!,
and try to identify what information Yahoo can collect via its various online offerings.
Prepare a short report and summarizing your findings.

FACEBOOK:
Facebook privacy policy provides extensive information about the use of
personal data of registered users. It clearly specifies what personal
information is collected, how it is used, parties to whom this information may
be disclosed, and the security measures taken to protect the information.
Facebook collects two types of information:

1. Personal details provided by a user and usage data collected

automatically as the user spends time on the Web site clicking around.
2. Regarding personal information, the user willfully discloses it, such as
name, email address, telephone number, address, gender and schools
attended, for example. Facebook may request permission to use the
user's email address to send occasional notifications about the new
services offered.
Facebook records Web site usage data, in terms of how users access the site, such as
type of web browser they use, the user's IP address, how long they spend logged into
the site, and other statistics. Facebook compiles this data to understand trends for
improving the site or making marketing decisions.
SUMMARY:

Facebook has an explicitly stated privacy policy. It aims to enhance the social
networking experience of users by reducing their concerns about the privacy
of their data on the Web site. However, the more the Web site tries to
incorporate open innovation by allowing third-party access and other such
facilities, the more it puts personal information at risk, thereby increasing the
probability of losing the trust of its users.

YAHOO!!
How Yahoo! Uses Your Personal Information
This policy covers how Yahoo! treats personal information that Yahoo!
collects and receives, including information related to your past use of
Yahoo! products and services. Personal information is information about you
that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or
phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
