To Whom It May Concern:
| am writing this letter of endorsement on behalf of Dr. Keith Cagle, a person | have had the
pleasure of working with for over 20 years. We have both been involved in the field of
American Sign Language instruction, and have worked together in various capacities within
the American Sign Language Teacher's Association (ASLTA) for a long time. He is someone
for whom | have a very high esteem. Among his peers, he is respected and admired for his
work as long-time Chair of the ASLTA Evaluation team, President of ASLTA and as an
instructor, mentor, and workshop presenter. He is essentially the face of ASLTA - when one
thinks of ASLTA, one cannot but associate the organization with Dr. Keith Cagle, who has
been its heartbeat for many years. He has made certification of ASL teachers a high priority
and advocated for recognition and adoption of ASL as a foreign language at various colleges
and universities.
Over the past several years, he has been instrumental in revising the ASLTA certification
system, and after a new Chair of Evaluation was appointed recently, has continually to serve
as mentor, and in assisting in the training of the current crop of evaluators to the new system.
In his capacity as Professor in the Department of Interpretation and Translation at Gallaudet
University, he has contributed to the development of an articulation agreement with five
community colleges, including the one on the West Coast - Ohlone Community College in
Fremont, California. He was also instrumental in doubling the number of student enrollment
into the Bachelor's degree program in Interpretation and Translation at the university the past
year. Additionally, he was appointed to the Center for the Assessment of Sign Language
Interpretation
Needless to say, Dr. Keith Cagle continues to impress me with his dedication to elevating the
instruction of ASL at the college level through his work with Gallaudet University and with
ASLTA.
Sincerely, Make
Ken Mikos
