Dr.CagletaughtINT707StructureofLanguageforInterpreters:AmericanSignLanguageand
English,andfromthefirstdayofclass,itwasclearthatIwastrulyfortunatetobeinhis
classroom.

Asateacher,Dr.Cagleisknowledgeable,personable,anddedicated.Healwayskeptusengaged
byemployingcreativeteachingstrategiesandworkingwithustoensureweunderstoodcourse
content.Heconsistentlyprovideduswithconstructivefeedbackonourworkinatimelymanner
andwaswillingtodelvedeeperintoareaswhichwarrantedfurtherexploration.Hisabilityto
fosterstudentgrowthanddevelopmentisremarkable.Whencompletingmyexitsurveyfrom
thegraduateschoolupongraduation,itwasnotadifficultdecisiontolistDr.Cagleasan
exemplaryfacultymemberintheDepartmentofInterpretationandTranslation.MytimeinDr.
Caglesclassroomwaswithoutadoubtoneofthehighlightsofmytimeasagraduatestudent.

IwasthenthrilledwhenIfoundoutthatIwouldbeworkingwithDr.Cagleasadoctoralstudent
atGallaudet.Dr.Caglehasservedasmyteachinginternshipsupervisor,overseeingmyown
developmentasateacher.OurjourneyasteachingcolleaguesbeganwhenwetaughtINT325
FundamentalsofInterpretingtogether.Asthiswasthefirsttimewewouldbeteachingthis
course,wewerewellawareofthechallengeswewouldface.Despitemyapprehensionin
teachingforthefirsttime,Dr.Cagleseamlesslyguidedmeintoteaching,supportingmein
everythingfromgradinghomeworkandlecturingtoclassroommanagementandstudent
engagement.ThroughmytimelearningfromDr.Cagleasbothastudentandacolleague,Ihave
seenthatheepitomizeswhatitmeanstobeadedicatedteacher,oftenworkingwithmeon
weekendsanddevotingcountlesshourstoensuringourstudentsenjoythebestpossible
educationalexperience.

Thissummer,wehaveworkedtogethertodevelopanewcourse,INT595ASLtoEnglishText
Translation,whichIwillteachintheFall2016semester.Dr.Caglessteadyhandaswehave
workedtogethertopreparethiscoursehasprovedhelpfulnotonlytome,buttothefieldof
interpretereducation,assignedlanguagetowrittenlanguagetranslationisanewandrapidly
expandingarea.Thecourse,whichoffersmanyexcitingpossibilitiesfortheDepartmentof
InterpretationandTranslationandbeyond,wouldnotbeofferedwithoutDr.Caglesvision,
leadership,anddedication.Now,asIreflectonmyowndevelopmentasateacherandprepareto
teachthisnewcourse,IseethatIoftenstrivetobelikeDr.Cagle,showingmystudentsthatItoo
amknowledgeable,personable,anddedicatedtotheirlearning.
