2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Flexa system is Airzones zoning system, with wireless communications. This system
allows the zoning into as many as 6 zones with any type of Airzones motorised diffuser. The
installation is half-wired, with the motorised diffusers and (in case there is one) the BlueFace
or EnerFace powered by the System Control Unit and wireless communication between the
thermostats and the System Control Unit (Fig. 1).
3. SYSTEM COMPONENTS
The Flexa system can be composed of the following elements:
Flexa System Control Unit (compulsory).
BlueFace/EnerFace Thermostat or Flexa Master Thermostat (one of the two).
Flexa Zone Thermostat (one per zone, except the master zone).
Gateway for Communications with the Air Conditioning Unit (advisable).
Airzone motorised diffusion (one per controlled zone).
Mechanical elements: deflector, safety damper, bypass (optional).
56
Automatic regulation of the velocity of the ventilator of the interior unit.
Automatic adjustment of the temperature setting in the unit.
Automatic selection of the air conditioning mode in the unit.
There are, therefore, different efficiency levels:

For some brands it is not necessary using neither the power meter nor the signal adaptor as the Communication Gateway
can obtain such information. Search on our website www.airzone.es/en for more information.
58
The clamp-on current meter is connected to the signal adapter by means of two nonpolarised wires (see Fig. 9).
The signal adapter is also connected, by means of the 5-terminal connector, to the
System Control Unit, with two wires connected in parallel to the wires of the
Communications Gateway (see Fig. 9) and taking the power supply wires (red and black
labels) from connector 16 in Fig. 2.
5. START-UP
5.1. System Control Unit Start-up
To start the Flexa System Control Unit, once it has been connected to the mains, take the
following steps:
1) The D11 mains LED (red) will light up. The motorised components will open, in groups of
3, lighting up the corresponding LEDs (M1 to M3, and then M4 to M6). The D2 channel
scanning LED (red) will then light up.
2) Wait for the D2 channel scanning LED (red) to turn off (approx. 3 minutes). Throughout
this period, if you have BlueFace or EnerFace in the installation, there will be a program
loading clock. Wait until it finishes.
3) After this time has passed, the D100 (green) Associating LED will start to flash, indicating
that the BlueFace or EnerFace can be configured (if present, EnerFace must be the first
to be configured) and the Flexa thermostats can now be associated.
59
3) On this screen, select one or two motorised outputs and use the icon in the bottom right to
move on to the default screen.
In the case of EnerFace, access the ECO Menu option and adjust the electrical power of the
machine.
If you wish to add a BlueFace/EnerFace to your already installed Flexa zoning system, it
must be reconfigured by reseting the main controller, connecting and configuring the
BlueFace/EnerFace and reasociate the zone thermostat (see annex 3).
60
Otherwise, select NOand confirm by pressing AIRZONE. The
word DESA (de-activated) will be displayed on the thermostat
screen, the thermostat will be free, and it will return to the SCAN
screen.
4) Once the thermostat has been associated with the network, it will
be necessary to indicate the motorised diffusion components that
will be controlled by that thermostat. The motorised components
that are free (not yet associated with a thermostat) are displayed
with the damper number followed by a L, while the occupied
motorised components are shown with a O.Use the arrow keys
to select the desired free motorised component. Confirm the
choice by pressing the AIRZONE key.
5) The information will be transmitted to the Control Unit. At that
moment, the word COMP will flash. If the result is positive, the
motorised component goes from free to occupied (the letter L
becomes a O) and the component immediately closes.
If an error code is displayed, consult the Error Codes section.
6) Once the motorised component has been occupied, or
associated, press the AIRZONE key and the option of associating
a slave motorised component will be displayed (Fig. 15). Use the
arrow keys to select the option of a slave motorised component or
no slave component. If the option NO (No) is selected, and then
confirmed by pressing the AIRZONE key, the process of
associating that thermostat is now complete. If SI (Yes) is
selected, a motorised component must be chosen as the slave,
and then confirmed by pressing the AIRZONE key, as before.

Cold Minimum Temperature for Comfort (tcon + )
This parameter shows the minimum temperature setting that can be selected in user
mode. A value between 18C/64F (default value) and 26C/79F can be assigned. The
maximum fixed limit is 30C.
Thermostat Battery Level (bAt)
This parameter indicates the state of the thermostat batteries, showing the level as a %
(100% is fully charged).
Slave Motorised Component (ESCL)
This parameter indicates whether a second motorised component is going to be
configured in a zone (slave motorised component). There are two possibilities:
If a slave motorised component has been configured, it will give the option to liberate it
(LIBE option), which will free up that component.
If no slave motorised component has been configured, it will give the option of
associating one (ASOC option). All the free motorised components in the system are
displayed and one of them must be selected (this process is similar to the one for
associating a Tacto).
Replace the Motorised Component (SUST)
This option is used to replace a motorised component which has been selected for a
zone by a different component. The previous motorised component is freed up, and a
different motorised component must be selected from the ones available in the system.
Liberate a Zone (LIbE)
This option is used to free up the motorised component or components in the zone.
Additionally, the Tacto is reset to its default values (the state it was in on leaving the
factory).
Power (of the signal) Received (POTE)
This parameter is used to check that the thermostat has sufficient coverage.
The thermostats coverage is considered to be good if the value is over 40.
The following parameters are found only in the Master thermostat.
Maximum return temperature in Heating Mode (tret + ) (*)
This parameter shows the maximum protective return temperature of the AC Unit. The
selection is between 36C/97F 34C/93F 32C/89F. Default temperature 34C.
Minimum return temperature in Cooling Mode (tret + ) (*)
This parameter shows the minimum protective return temperature of the AC Unit. The
selection is between 6C/42F 8C/46F 10C/50F. Default temperature 8C.
Delay in closing the last motorised component (reta) (*)
This parameter indicates whether the closing of the last motorised component should be
delayed or not. By default, the last component is closed 4 seconds after the air
conditioning/heating apparatus is stopped, but there are occasions on which it is
necessary to increase this time to 3 minutes.
There are the following options:
NO: The delay is 4 seconds.
SI: The delay is 3 minutes.
Address of the System Control Unit (dirs)(*)
This parameter can be used to assign an address to each board in the configuration.
Fixed channel mode (CH16)(*)
By means of this parameter you can select the systems channel searching mode
NO: automatic search of the operating channel (by default)
SI:the channel number 16 is established as the operating channel
63
IMPORTANT: in case of changing this parameter, check that there is communication in all
the zones, for that do an opening and closing of each zone.
7. CONNECTION TO AC UNITS
There are several ways to connect to the air conditioning/heating machines:
Stop/Start Connection
Infrared connection
Connection through HVAC Communication Gateways
64
8. EXCEPTION CODES
The thermostat uses error codes to warn the installer about a possible network fault.
According to the displayed error, see below the possible solutions:
Code 000: Association not completed
Remove the error pressing on Airzone icon.
Check that the System Control Unit is receiving a mains
voltage of 230 Vac at the J5 connector, that it is connected
correctly and that the D11 (red) mains LED is lit.
Make sure that you previously pressed the SW100 Thermostat
Associating Button, and that the D100 is flashing while the
association is being made.
Check that the thermostat is receiving the right signal power
level (> 40). Otherwise, select another location.
Code 001: Occupied motorised component
The motorised component may be freed up by using the SUSTITUIR (Replace)
option, which was explained in the section Configuration of the Installation
Parameters.
A different motorised component may also be chosen.
Code 002: Mode other than STOP
Check that the mode selected in the Master thermostat is STOP.
Set the master thermostat to STOP mode and repeat the process.
Code 003: All the zones are occupied
Check that you have not used up the maximum number of zones
in your Flexa system (the maximum possible is 6 zones).
If a thermostat stops working, then after 15 minutes, its damper is considered to be
free and a new Tacto thermostat can be associated with it (new zone).
Code 004: Communications failure
It is possible that the thermostat is temporarily out of coverage
or that communications having simply been lost.
Repeat the whole process.
Code 005: Incorrect Bypass configuration
Check that the Master thermostat has the Cooling or Heating mode selected.
Also check that all the zones are turned off, or turned on, but there is no demand.
Check that all the dampers are closed.
Once again, follow the instructions to configure the network.
Code 006: Dampers Occupied
If a Tacto thermostat detects that all the motorised components are occupied, it displays
this error code.
The motorised component may be freed up by using the SUSTITUIR (Replace)
option, which was explained in the section Configuration of the Installation
Parameters.
Code 008: Thermostats are desynchronized
Repeat the association process of the thermostat again.
If after several attempts the error persists, change the thermostat location.
65
9. SELF-TESTING PROCESS
It is possible to make a self-testing process of the system using the red D13 LED of Selftesting process (see Fig. 2).
To run the test, put the thermostat in STOP mode. This gives a diagnosis of the status of the
Alarm Bridge and the Return Probe.
If an integration gateway is connected, only the Alarm Bridge will be tested.
Check the following table for the meaning of the self-testing process:
Detected event
N of flashes
2
3
4
Error
priority
3
1
2
If there are more than two errors, the error priority indicates what combination of flashes
would be displayed. That is to say, if the priorities are 2 and 5, it will only flash 4 times, since
error 2 has higher priority.
The temperature limit depends on the parameter settings of TRET. For more information, please refer to section
6.1.
