30 DAY CLEANSING PROGRAM


This program is set out to help beat cancer and disease. This will
help your body to receive what it needs in order to heal itself. Even
though there is no such thing as a quick fix with healing; the rate of
your healing will depend on your individual system, and its
nutritional deficiencies. Your body will heal when given the
opportunity through self nurturing. You must be prepared for it to
take time to get back into shape.

bacteria, viruses and parasites.
In the animal kingdom and in traditional cultures routine fasting
which allows the body time to clean itself out has been normal
practice. Just think how many showers you take in a year to clean
the outside of your body and then how many cleanses you do in a
year to clean the in- side of your body?

In much the same way you need a holiday from work, your body
needs a break from time to time, especially when you are feeling
tired, sick, heavy or just plain run down.
Detoxification is a normal process within the body as it neutralizes
and eliminates toxins through the major organs such as our colon,
liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin.
Our bodies do it naturally every day, in fact it is one of our most
basic automatic functions. But what if our self-cleaning system is
overloaded by our unhealthy lifestyle and exposure to
environmental toxins?
According to many healing experts detoxification through special
cleansing programs may be the missing link to disease prevention,
especially for immune-deficiency diseases like cancer, arthritis,
diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome and candida.
Our chemical-laden diet, with an overabundance of animal protein,
too much saturated fat and too much caffeine and alcohol radically
alters our internal ecosystem. However even if your diet is good, a

Making Food Your Medicine

To keep these symptoms to a minimumdrink plenty of water and


herbal teas to help with elimination. Have colonics or enemas regularly.
Stick to the regime and rest, REST A LOT! Give your body the time and
space to start healing.
Cleansing herbal teas, which are designed to assist the organs eliminate
at a deep tissue level can be found in most leading health food shops.
Find one with a combination of chaparral, corn silk, ginger, elder flower,
peppermint, red clover, and chamomile. The benefits of these herbs can
be found in a chart on page 75 which describes the effects of these
herbs on the body.

If you are a carbohydrate addict, addicted to processed foods,


particularly sugar, it will take seven to ten days to withdraw from these
poisons. You may feel a little foggy headed for a few days; this will pass.
If you are addicted to caffeine, then it is quite common to expect
headaches for up to two to four days.

Hippocrates advocated using food to heal the body. He maintained that


the body is a self-healing mechanism.
Natural healing is not an overnight fix and you many feel a little off colour
in the first few days of starting this program because your body is ridding
itself of accumulated toxins.

The Healing Crisis


You may experience fatigue, and headaches. Urine may go dark and
bowels may smell really foul. Your tongue may be coated and you might
feel irritable and weak, not to mention nauseous. Brain fog may set in
and diarrhea, flu-like symptoms, and a fever. But its worth it!

Produce Wash Recipe:

Put your produce in the sink.


Fill the sink with cold water and add - cup white vinegar. You
can also add a splash of lemon juice and/or a tablespoon of
baking soda.
Let that soak for 15-20 minutes.
Rinse under cold water then juice!

Note: You do not need to do this with rind-encased fruit (lemons, oranges, etc)
unless you are planning to use the rind in your mixtures or food.

An Alternative is a Produce Wash Spray Recipe:

It is important for you to start where you are with what you have and
what is available.

1 c./235 ml. Water


1 c./235 ml. white vinegar
1 Tbsp./15 g. baking soda
1/2 lemon

Mix in a large bowl (to allow time for the chemical reaction to happen
between the vinegar and baking soda) and then pour into a spray bottle.
Spray fruit and rinse well. Use a scrub brush for firmer produce.

The cost of juicing can be somewhat costly, and there are people who
will feel that if they have to use organic exclusively that it is either too
expensive or perhaps not even available in your area.
Although organic is the optimum choice, there is another option that you
might like to consider when purchasing conventional fruit and vegetables
from your supermarket or farmers market.
It is recommended that you wash your produce with distilled white
vinegar produce wash before use. It matters not whether it be organic or
not, because you never know who/what has touched your fruit and
vegetables before purchase. Simple, easy and cost effective!
The following method is taken from Steve Meyerowitzs book, Juice
Fasting and Detoxification, and has been tested over many years to be
very effective in removing undesirable chemicals and pathogens.

A Program for Life

Why Juice?

This is a 30 day cleansing program designed to get your body into a state of
alkalinity, where cancer cells cannot survive.
This program begins with five transitioning in days on light foods. This helps
to clear the body of heavy solids. It also reduces the initial side effects as
your body rids itself of toxins, and gently prepares your body for juicing. This
is followed by 20 days of juices and herbal tea.

Juicing allows your body to rest and work on the beneficial effects of the
nutrients you are now giving your body to heal. Juicing also removes the
indigestible fibre, making these nutrients more readily available to the body in
much larger quantities than when eating a piece of fruit or a vegetable,
because many nutrients are trapped in the fibre. This is one reason to
purchase a slow cold-press juicer, so these nutrients are not destroyed by
friction.

The program ends with five transitioning out days similar to the transitioning
in days to support the bodys digestive system which will gently introduce
you back to solid food once again.

Juicing is extremely beneficial, for example, the human body only assimilates
1% of the nutrient beta carotene from a carrot when eaten whole, in

Included in the program is recommended nutritional supplements together


with a suggested dosage.

Juicing assists with detoxifying the body. It also alleviates allergies, aids
digestion, relieves high blood pressure, and contributes to a longer life
expectancy. Keeping the body alkaline with juicing is known to reduce
stress. Juicing strengthens the immune system to prevent and heal disease.
It is one of the best tools that work immediately on the body. Everyone
needs to juice periodically to give the body a time of rest in order to
rejuvenate.

Produce:

The week before you start your program it is advisable to:

might look like:

Physical activity is important during your cleansing


program but it is advisable if you are already on an
exercise program that you decrease your intensity
and sometimes duration of exercise, to enable the
body enough energy to detoxify.
Walking, gardening, pilates or gentle yoga, and easy
paced cycling are all examples of good activities to
do during your cleansing program.
You may also want to conserve energy to help your body rest and keep
your immune system strong. You may also be ingesting fewer calories than
your body is accustomed to, plus the macronutrients like protein and
carbohydrates are greatly reduced so youll want to downshift your
present workout accordingly.

Coffee Enema

contains poisons, produces spasms in the duodenum and small


intestines, and causes some overflow into the stomach, with
resultant feelings of nausea or even vomiting of bile. In these
cases, great amounts of peppermint tea are necessary to wash out
bile from the stomach. Thereafter patients feel better and more
comfortable.(Max Gerson, from A Cancer Therapy, p. 191)

Coffee Enema Preparation:


This procedure has been adapted
from the book Healing the Gerson
Way by Charlotte Gerson.

Cleaning out the accumulated poisons in the system is extremely


important. Max Gerson states, In the beginning of your cleansing
program, the most important part of the therapy is an intensive
detoxification of the entire body... In more advanced disease cases
it takes a long time, about one to one and a half years, to restore
the liver as near as possible to normal.

It is advisable whilst on this cleansing


program to use a coffee enema once
or twice a day can really help alleviate
the flu like symptoms while the body
is undoing the damage of a poor diet
and lifestyle.

For the first few weeks or months, the liver has to be considered
as weak and unable to resume its normal functions, especially that
of detoxification and of reactivation of the oxidizing enzymes. For
that reason, it is necessary to help the liver with the continuation of
coffee enemas and castor oil treatments in a slowly diminishing
degree, according to the advanced condition of the disease. We
have to bear in mind that there are still unripe cancer tissues in the

The body does not react to the coffee enema the same way it
does to drinking coffee. It is an interesting fact that coffee, when
drunk by mouth, has a totally different physiological effect on the
bodyone which is quite negative. Max Gerson states, A cup of
coffee taken by mouth has an entirely different effect . . It heightens
the reflex response, lowers the blood pressure, increases heart
rate, perspiration, causes insomnia and heart palpitation. (Excerpt

In practice, Gerson found that the enemas were indispensable, if


he wanted to clean out the tumor and totally rid it from the body,
while, at the same time, protecting the integrity of the very
important liver.

Max Gerson found that a diluted coffee solution, taken in the form
of a low enema, produces none of the negative physiological
effects, named abovewhich drinking coffee by mouth always
does. In connection with this, take note that Gerson always gave
low enemas, and only for 12-15 minutes maximum at a time.

The pain-relieving effect of coffee enemas is also astounding. The


enema removes the poisons from the liver so it (the liver) can better
clean the blood (all the blood passes through it every three
minutes). It is the accumulated poisons in the system which cause
the generalized pain of cancer!

The physiological effect of a coffee enema helps Increase


production of bile, an opening of the bile ducts and greater flow of
bile. At the start of the treatment and during flare-ups, the bile

Preparing the Enema Mixture:

Difficult as this may be to believe, experience has proved that


frequent enemas completely eliminate the need for sedation. (Max
Gerson, A Cancer Therapy, p. 191)

It is very important for all fluids which are placed in the rectum to
be sterile. Use only boiled, distilled water in making the coffee and
for the enema water.

What youll need to get started:

Make sure it is cooled to body temperature before using.

Equipment:

Recipe 1 - The Gerson Clinic Recipe

Enema Bucket

This recipe is to be used total strength! Do not dilute it!

Thick Towel (or waterproof bed pad or gym mat) to place on the
bed, floor or wherever you decide to lie down. A bed or massage
table that is fairly close to a toilet.

Take the 3 tablespoons of ground coffee to 1 litre distilled water.


Boil it for 5 minutes, with the lid off. (This drives off oils from the
coffee.) Then cover the pan, lower the heat, and simmer for an
additional 15 minutes. Strain and allow to cool. Add enough extra
distilled water to make a full quart. Use at body temperature.

Pillow and light blanket


Something to sit or hang your enema bag on (All that is
required is for the bucket to be placed no higher than about 18
inches above your body)

Recipe 2 - The Alternate Recipe for when you travel

Hand Towel or Facecloth (handy to catch any drips from the


tube while youre removing the tube after the enema is complete
or for when you remove the little end piece.)

Instead of a freshly made mixture, this formula uses a coffee


concentrate. It is recommended that it only be used as an
alternative to the above recipe for convenience when traveling.

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons of Organic Coffee Ground
(never use instant coffee)
1 litre of distilled water (which is the best for this purpose but
pre-boiled purified filtered water is acceptable)
Filter paper (coffee filters would be acceptable)

Taking the Enema:

Three rounded tablespoons of coffee are to be used per 1 litre


enema. A concentrate of correct proportion is prepared in this
manner:

Here are several brief instructions on the actual taking of the


enema and its frequency:

1. Place 1 cup (12 rounded tablespoons) fine or plunger ground


coffee into a sauce pan.


In practice, it seems necessary to apply frequent coffee
enemas, four to six times in 24 hours; in more advanced cases
every four hours day and nightor even more in the first two
weeks.(Max Gerson, A Cancer Therapy, p. 193)

2. Add 1 litre distilled water.


Always keep the pot with the distilled water on the warmer. It
will not boil and will always be ready.

3. Boil 5 minutes, uncovered.


4. Cover, lower heat and simmer 20 minutes or more.


If your buckets plastic hose becomes kinked, run a small
amount of hot water through it to soften it.

5. Strain into a one-quart jar, allowing the grounds to drain well.


6. Add distilled water, to make a full quart.

1. The coffee solution should be body temperature.

7. Mark the jar for convenience with tape or paint, indicating one
cup increments. This is enough concentrate for 4 enemas (one
cup concentrate plus 3 cups boiled, distilled per enema).
Multiply recipe to prepare additional concentrate at one time.

2. Run a little of the solution through the tube into the toilet to
warm the tube; close the stop- cock.
3. Lubricate, about 2 inches of, rectal end of enema tube with
coconut oil.

4. Hang enema bucket not over 45cm (18 inches) above you.
Using the coffee concentrate:

cleaned it (using biodegradable food-use detergent, then rinse well). Rinse
daily, or as often as needed, with hydrogen peroxide 3%. The
bucket and tube are very good growing grounds for

Apply the enema, following instructions given just below.


Be sure to boil all fluids before placing them in the rectum. The fluid
should be given at body temperature.

These three pills also produced restful sleep. Their action is


surprisingly effective once spasms and edema are eliminated by
taking large doses of potassium salts given immediately at the start
of the cleansing program along with detoxification.

enemas is quickly noted by the patients and they often voluntarily

Dealing With Pain:

The triad should be used sparingly. Do not exceed 6 dosages in a


24-hour period unless prescribed by your physician:

In advanced stages of cancer, there is much pain. In these


situations there could also be a possibility of in the first few weeks
on the cleansing program. Dr Max Gerson discovered that this was
caused by the high volume of poisons in the system. He found
quite consistently!that coffee enemas and castor oil packs not
only helped the liver, but also greatly reduced the pain.

The pain triad becomes progressively more effective as the body


undergoes detoxification (elimination of poisons through enemas).
It can be used at bedtime to assist in going to sleep for those
patients with substantial pain. (Gerson Primer, 3rd ed., p. 11)

However, in the first few weeks of cleansing, the pain can become
severe since the tumor is breaking down and so many toxic substances are circulating through the body. When needed, the
Gerson Clinic specialists give three substances, which they call the

For cancer patients, even in advanced stages, pain relief was
promptly obtained by the use of coffee enemas, given every two

Importance of Drinking Water:


Please do not forget pure water. The water we drink must be pure.
Approximately 75% of the body is comprised of water and we are
constantly losing precious fluids through our sweat glands, urine,
feces, mucous membranes and even breathing.
Water is a superb solvent and a flushing agent and cleanser for
your kidneys, bladder and digestive tract. Water contains
electrolytes, which are acids, bases and salts that conduct our bioelectricity through our nervous system.
Dr Lorraine Day states, Not drinking enough water can be as
harmful to a person's heart as smoking. Sufficient water is as
important to the body and heart health as other factors such as
diet and exercise. Water thins the blood, thus lowering the risk of
blood clots. Fruit juice, milk, or soda do not give the same
protection.
It has been researched that healthy men who drank five or more
glasses of water every day had a 54% decrease in the risk of fatal
coronary heart disease..plus 3000 cases of ulcer pain have been
treated successfully by water drinking alone.
Nearly everyone is drinking coffee and caffeinated soda. Caffeine is
a dehydrating chemical, a diuretic that causes the loss of more
water from the body than comes in with the drink. Alcoholic drinks
also cause dehydration inside the body, just as alcohol causes
drying of the skin when it is rubbed on the hands.
Few people are drinking water in any significant amount. The body
loses 10 glasses of water every day just by living, and it is
imperative to drink at least 10 glasses of water daily to replace

Nutritional deficiency is rarely considered in terms of getting


enough waterbut it should be. Sadly this is because most of us
dont really know what dehydration looks like. As a result, it creeps
in slowly and undetected until it becomes a chronic condition.

High blood pressure

Chronic dehydration is, in fact, a major, underlying cause of many


common ailments in addition to causing decrements in physical,
visuomotor, psychomotor, and cognitive performance.

Obesity (dehydration causes a craving for foods rich in water,


which confuses the body into thinking its hungry)

Eczema (because the body does not have enough water to

The signs of chronic dehydration manifest themselves under the


guise of seemingly insignificant and/or unrelated ailments. For
example, allergies (and even asthma) can be a symptom of chronic
dehydration. Dehydration increases histamine levels, which causes
the body to release cortisol (a stress hormone). This suppresses
the production of white blood cells, making the body vulnerable to
allergens.

When sunlight hits your skin, it reacts with the cholesterol in your
skin to produce vitamin D. This is why you should not shower
immediately after being in the sun; youll literally wash away the
vitamin D that hasnt finished reacting with the oils on your skin.
Sunlight also helps to prevent internal cancers. As the amount of
available sunlight increases, the incidence of internal cancer
decreases.
Research is showing that vitamin D can actually help to save your
heart! Another recent medical research study showed
that supplementing low vitamin D levels for 3 months alleviated
hypertension in people in their middle-ages. If youve ever had
hypertension, you know what the outcome can be if you dont
change your diet and/or lifestyle to get it under control: organ
damage, heart disease, and stroke. So, it should come as no
surprise that another study has suggested that getting enough
vitamin D can even be used to ward off a stroke.

Throughout most of recorded history man has lived and worked


out of doors with full exposure to sunlight. In our modern society
today, millions live in the cities, working indoors in factories and
offices. We live in a glass environment, where the larger portion of
the day is spent behind window glass, which keeps out the
ultraviolet light that is so healing to the body.

But sunlight also has a secondary blood pressure lowering effect,


recently discovered by Scottish researchers. Apart from producing
vitamin D (which lowers blood pressure itself), sunlight on the skin
helps the body produce more nitric oxide, which also helps reduce
blood pressure.

The body needs sunlight to shine upon it on a regular basis if we


desire good health, and especially while cleasning. Sunlight helps
build the immune system, provides the body with essential vitamin
D (which is actually a hormone), energizes the body, and promotes
healing. If sunlight is not available due to circumstances out of your
control, it is imperative one take D3 supplementation. In this

Yet another study was conducted involving 1,179 healthy


Nebraskan women who were divided into a control group and a
placebo group. In the four years the study was conducted, the
group who was receiving adequate amounts of Vitamin D and also

Improper Breathing: Millions of people suffer from a wide variety of
ailments that are partly caused by an insufficient supply of oxygen.
The problem is that most people do not breathe correctly. Many
people are shallow breathers, only filling the top portion of their
lungs. When we completely fill our lungs with air the bottom portion
of the lungs will push the diaphragm down, and this action will
push the stomach out. If your stomach doesn't come out as you
breathe, then you are not breathing correctly.

Our bodies need fresh air and pure water to prevent disease and
stay cancer free!
The first need of all living creatures on this earth is oxygen. They
cannot live without it. Oxygen must always be present in the air we
breathe. All of the trillions of cells in the human body must receive
a constant supply of oxygen or those cells will weaken and die.

Exercise stimulates you to breathe faster and deeper. Your


diaphragm, a dome-shaped sheet of muscle fibers dividing your
chest from your abdomen, contracts with each breath and pulls
downward. This in turn creates a vacuum in your chest cavity that
sucks air into your lungs. Then when your diaphragm muscles
relax and rise, the air is pushed out. This forces open millions of air
cells that you do not use in sedentary living. Vigorous breathing not
only brings in the needed oxygen for your blood-stream to carry to
the tissues, but it also strengthens and protects your organs
against disease and keeps them fit for action. The great advantage
of abundance of lung exercise is seen in the fact that professional
singers suffer less from infections than others.

Normally we breathe about fifteen times a minute, inhaling about a


pint of air each time we take a breath. The lungs normally hold
about six pints of air, so that about one sixth of the air is
exchanged each time we take a breath. A person sleeping uses
only about 10% of his lung capacity. Hard work increases lung use
to about 50%.
Air is electrically charged. Air contains electricity. The air we
breathe affects the body as if it were charged with electricity. This
electrical energy, absorbed by the blood, is carried to all parts of
the body. The air we breathe contains both negatively charged ions
and positively charged ions. Our bodies need a larger portion of
the negatively charged ions for optimum health.

Especially while we are cleansing, our cells thrive when they are
well-oxygenated, so we should strive to breathe deeply from the
purest air possible at all times.

Core your apples and remove the seeds before pushing through your juicer.
Rinse and slice in half to remove the pit.
Rinse the stalks carefully and push through juicer, putting the bottom of the stalk through first.

Avocado

You can blend your juices in a blender with an avocado to thicken it up, but never put an avocado in a juicer.

Bananas

Similar to the avocado, never juice bananas! But feel free to blend your juices in a blender with a banana to thicken it up.

Beets (Beetroot)

Peel your beets before juicing them! This will avoid the earthy taste that many people complain about after juicing an
unpeeled beet. Depending on the size of your beets, slice to fit your juicer shoot. Juice your beet greens, too!

Bell peppers

Rinse and remove the stem, but you can save time and forget removing the seeds its fine to juice them. Cut to size and
juice.

Blackberries

Rinse in a strainer. They dont keep well after being rinsed, so best to wash them the day you plan to juice them.

After rinsing, juice it all. From the stalk to the head, you can receive many nutritional benefits from juicing broccoli.

juicer. Leafy greens move best your juicer best when followed by a harder fruit or vegetable, like apples, celery, or
cucumbers.
Green and red cabbage are great for juicing. Be sure to select a cabbage head that is firm with crisp leaves. Cut the
cabbage in quarters, or smaller if needed, so it easily fits into the juicer shoot. If you dont like the taste of beets, you can
substitute red cabbage in any juice recipe that calls for beets.
Remove the rind, flesh and seeds before juicing this orange melon.
Rinse thoroughly before passing through the juicer and thats it! You can juice your carrots with the greens and skins still on.
Wash carefully, as grit can get stuck in the nooks and crannies of this hearty root vegetable. As with beets, if you dont
prefer an earthy taste, peel the celeriac first. Cut to fit your juicer.
Rinse thoroughly and add entire celery stalk through the juicer (even the leafy tops).

These are a great leafy green, and can be used if kale isnt available. Wash the large leaves and roll up before juicing.

Cranberries

Rinse and run through juicer. Make sure you juice them with something sweet because these are really tart not like the
commercial cranberry juice you buy in the store!

Cucumbers

Cut the cumber in half and use it to help push greens through your juicer. No need to peel.

Dandelion
Eggplant
Fennel bulbs

Grapefruits

Juice as you would any other green wash leaves and roll up. Push through with firmer produce. These have some bite to
them, so use sparingly, or round off with a sweet and juicy fruit, like pineapple.
Ive never juiced eggplant and I dont think I ever will! I think eggplant is best for eating.
I love juicing fennel bulbs. Rinse and cut them to fit through the juicer and youll notice a slight flavor that reminds me of
black licorice.

Wash your grapes and remove them from their stems and add them through the juicer. Experiment with red, green, and
purple grapes.

Jicama

Wash, slice, but dont peel jicama before adding it to your vegetable juicer. The jicama juice will contain nutrients that were
near the skin even after the skins been pulped away.
One of my favorites! Use any kind lacinato, red, green, purple, curly, etc. and add the leafy green through your juicer

Kale (Tuscan cabbage) after rinsing. I normally add 3-4 leaves at a time.
Kiwis

Peel and run through your juicer, seeds and all.

Mangos

Peel and cut spears of mango from the core. Makes a great tropical juice when mixed with pineapple! Also lends a great
creamy texture to your juice.

Melons

Cut into wedges and remove outer skin with a knife or peeler. You can juice these with seeds

Mustard greens

Juice these like you would any green but definitely choose a small amount of mustard greens. This potent green will give a
very strong taste and adds lots of spice. It will literally warm your insides.

Onions

Go easy on these, as they can give your juices a super strong flavor. Some people prefer not to juice these at all. Peel
papery skin and slice to fit your juicer, if needed. Onions are another one to start with a small amount, taste your juice, and
add more if you like it. If eating raw onions bothers your stomach, you probably want to skip juicing them.

Oranges

Peel, and try to keep as much as the white pith on as possible (you can use a peeler for that), since the pith contains
nutrients that help your body absorb the vitamin C and amazing antioxidants found in citrus fruits. Cut to fit your juicer, and
remove the seeds. If you have a centrifugal juicer, you can keep the seeds in. They contain excellent nutrients too.

Papayas

Cut in half and peel skin. You can leave the seeds in to juice them.

Parsnips

These are super easy, like carrots, especially if you have smaller or skinny ones. Just rinse and run through your juicer! If
theyre larger, you may need to slice in half lengthwise. Use these to run greens through your juicer.

Peaches

Cut in half to remove the pit and juice.

Pears
Pineapples

These can be juiced whole. Just wash and slice to fit your juicer, if needed.
The heavier a pineapple is, the riper it is. Grab hold of the top and twist off. Slice into quarters, cut out the woody core, peel
the skin, and juice.

How To Prepare
Wash and slice in half to remove the pit. I love experimenting with different types of plums- there are so many! These give
your juice a gorgeous color with an antioxidant punch.
A trick for this tricky fruit: Fill a bowl up with water. Slice pomegranate in half without pulling the halves apart, and then
submerge in the bowl of water to break it apart. This keeps the juice from squirting everywhere. Then, keeping it in the
water, break the pomegranate into chunks and tease the seeds out. The white parts will float and the seeds will sink.
Remove all the skin and the white parts from the top of the water and use a slotted spoon to remove the seeds. Juice!
Another easy one just rinse and run through your juicer. Leave the root and stem on, but remove the leaves if they have
any. Watch out! These can spice up your juice in a flash, so add small amounts at a time. If youre feeling cold, adding
these to your juice will warm you right up.

Raspberries

Just rinse and juice. I love to add a little bit of lemon to a juice made with raspberries, or combine them with fresh peaches
for a peach melba juice.

Romaine lettuce

Rinse leaves individually, checking for dirt and sand. No need to remove the stems. Roll the leaves up and run through your
juicer. Leafy greens move best your juicer best when followed by a harder fruit or vegetable, like apples, celery, or
cucumbers.

Scallions

Just rinse and juice! No need to remove the roots or dark green parts because you can juice it all. These have a strong
flavor, like onions, so start small.

Spinach

Wash well some bunches can have a lot of grit on them. Roll into a ball and run through your juicer using firm produce,
like apples or carrots.

Squashes
Strawberries

This goes for all squashes, including pumpkin and summer squashes: scrub and remove stem. If the skin is really tough
and thick, you might want to peel it. Otherwise, slice and keep the seeds in (you get those extra cancer-fighting chemicals
by keeping in the seeds), and juice.
Delicious and sweet, they have a powerful flavor when you juice them so I like to just mix them with other berries, or
maybe one or two other fruits. Just rinse and pop right in the juicer.

Sugar snap peas

Rinse and run through juicer. These dont have a very high water content, so theyre not going to yield a lot of juice. Juice
along with carrots to drink your peas and carrots!

Sweet potatoes

Scrub and cut into chunks. Be sure to try these in our popular peach pie juice a delicious dessert juice on the Reboot!

Tangerines

Peel and pop into the juicer. As with grapefruits, leave as much of the white pith on as you can, and remove seeds if youre
using a centrifugal juicer.

Tomatoes

Wash and remove stem and any leaves. If theyre large, you may need to slice to fit your juicer. No need to take out the
seeds. Fresh tomato juice is worlds away from that canned stuff!

Turnips

Scrub and chop in chunks to fit your juicer. Try these in our root-tastic juice get the recipe on our site. A great drink for
cooler weather when those tropical fruits arent in season!

Watermelon

Makes an amazingly refreshing juice, especially in hot weather. Cut into wedges and remove the skin and rind. You can
keep the seeds in. Check out my favourite watermelon pineapple ginger juice recipe on our website.

Wheatgrass

Some juicers are better at doing wheatgrass then others. If youre just doing a small amount, any kind of juicer should be
able to handle it. Rinse the wheatgrass, twist or roll into a ball, and push through with something juicy and firm, like apples.
Gives a nice greeny flavor to your juice, and provides lots of great green chlorophyl energy.

Zucchinis

Scrub and cut off stem, but leave the other end on. These are great for pushing through greens.

How To Prepare
Carefully wash the leaves, removing any grit. If your basil seems very gritty, submerge in a bowl of cold water and
swish around. Remove and rinse. To juice, tear the leaves off from the stems and roll up. Push through with firmer

Chinese 5-spice powder

Dont put this through your juicer!! Just sprinkle into your juice.

Cilantro (Coriander)

Wash thoroughly. You can juice both the stems and the leaves.

Cinnamon
Dill
Garlic

Dont juice this either! Sprinkle ground cinnamon on juices like apple, pear, or sweet potato.
Rinse and pull the delicate fronds off the stem to juice.
The flavor is strong, and so are the benefits too many to list here, but trust me, theyre a wonderfood. Use fresh
garlic and peel before running through juicer. Start with a small amount and taste your juice before adding more.
Better to start small and add more than the other way around!

Peel your piece of ginger by cutting the size that you need for the juice and then take a spoon to peel the skin back.
You can also use a knife to cut it but a spoon does the trick. Ginger doesnt produce much juice but it does add a
rich flavor so be careful not to go overboard.
Wash and juice. As you probably know, these are pretty spicy, so use with care!
Wash thoroughly and remove leaves from stem before juicing. Goes great with pineapple, grapes, watermelon, or
strawberries.
Gives a nice herby flavor to vegetable juices. Wash and tear leaves off their woody stems before juicing.

Corn Silk

Aids in kidney, bladder conditions, and helps to remove gravel from kidneys,
bladder and prostate gland. Good for carpal tunnel syndrome, obesity, PMS. Used
in combination with other kidney herbs to open the urinary tract and remove
mucus from the urine. Is good for dropsy and edema when a weak heart is the
cause. Corn Silk has anti-inflammatory benefits in connection to conditions of the
urethra, bladder, prostate, and kidneys.

Elder Flower

Combats free radicals. Superior tonic and blood purifier, eases constipation,
enhances immune system, lowers fever, stops glands swelling, and detoxifies the
body at cellular levels of wastes. Is effective against flu viruses, stimulates
circulation, relieves pain, purges the lungs, increases perspiration, soothes
respiratory tract and is good for the liver, kidneys, headaches, rheumatism and
epilepsy.

Not to be taken during


pregnancy. Avoid the stems of
this plant as they contain
cyanide.

Ginger

Supports the digestive and respiratory system, fights inflammation, and stimulates
circulation. Excellent agent for cleansing the bowels, kidneys and the skin. Used
for such disorders as arthritis, fever, hot flushes, headaches, sore throat, car and
sea sickness, morning sickness. Is a blood thinner and combines well with other
herbs to enhance their effectiveness. Is a strong antioxidant and good for fighting
off colds and flu.

Not recommended if taking


anticoagulants or have gall

Peppermint

Acts as a muscle relaxant, particularly in the digestive tract. Increases acidity and
so aids digestion. Has a slightly anesthetic effect on the mucous membranes and
the gastrointestinal tract. Used in the treatments of chills, fever, colic, diarrhoea,
headaches, heart trouble, heart palpitations, nausea, indigestion, irritable bowel
syndrome, vomiting, poor appetite, rheumatism, spasms. A general stimulant for
the whole body and strengthens the whole system.

Red Clover Flowers

Works as a blood purifier, fights infections, improves circulation stimulates the


secretion of bile. Has antispasmodic, and relaxing effects, soothes nerves and
cleans the bronchi, is a superior cancer treatment herba must in any detox and
healing formula. Good for HIV and AIDS symptoms.
Valuable as a tea taken 3 to 4
times daily.
Red clover containsvaluable nutrients such as biotin, choline, copper, coumarins,
glycosides, inositol, magnesium, manganese, and selenium. It also contains

Q: How many times a day should I juice whilst on the program?


A: 4-6 times per day, 500-600 ml for each juice.

Q: Why cant I drink caffeine while juicing?


A: Caffeine is a stimulant as well as an irritant. When we drink caffeine
our system needs to work to metabolize it and safely process it. The
purpose of this cleansing program is to give our bodies a break from
as much work as possible.

Q: Rinds, peels and stems: lose them or juice them?


A: Stems juice them! It will yield more fluid. Peels its a personal
preference. The citrus zest or peel contains important phytonutrients
but can lend to a slightly bitter flavor. If you juice the peel make sure
that you choose organic and wash well.

Q: Why cant I smoke while juicing?


A: Smoking introduces toxins into our body and the purpose of juicing
is to help boost up phytonutrients from plants and process.

Q: Can I exercise?
A: Yes, physical activity is recommended during your cleansing
program but it is advised that you decrease your intensity and
sometimes duration of exercise.

Q:Can I cleanse while Im pregnant or nursing?


A: No. Due to different nutritional needs during pregnancy and
nursing, it is not advised during this time.

During the cleanse you will want to conserve your energy to help your
body eliminate waste and you may be ingesting fewer calories or
energy than usual so you will want to down shift your exercise routine
accordingly.

Q: Will I get enough protein during my cleansing program?


A: Fresh juice can have up to 5 or 6 grams of protein per 500 ml per
serving. Some recipes may even offer more! One day of juices could
result in anywhere from 40 to 60+ grams of protein which is perfectly
sufficient for most people over a short period of time and actually
100% adequate for others. To put it in perspective, 30 grams of meat,
fish or poultry, 1 egg, 1 cup milk each contain 6-8 grams of protein.

We also want you to maintain your hydration during the cleanse, so be


sure to drink plenty of fluids with exercise. Walking, gentle yoga, tai
chi, pilates, cycling are all examples of good activities to do during
your cleanse, at a mild to moderate intensity level.
Q: What do I do if I take prescription medications?
A: Continue taking your medications as prescribed and ask your
doctor if you need to make adjustments. For those of you taking statin

Q: Where will I get fiber while I am drinking just juice?


A: When we just juice, the insoluble fiber is extracted and we are left
with the liquid portion of the vegetables and fruits as well as the
soluble fiber. So even during the juicing phase of your cleansing
program you will still be receiving adequate fiber.

Q: The food on the meal plans is too much/too little for me. How
much should I eat?
A: Eat only as much as feels right to you. Stop when you feel full.
Have another juice if you are still hungry. During the eating phases,
dont feel you need to eat everything we list, and likewise, if you are
still hungry, have another serving, some fruit, or some raw veggiesor
a juice, of course!

Q: Is there a ratio to fruits and veggies that you recommend for


this cleansing program?
A: 80% veggies, 20% fruits
Q: How many calories a day should I consume?
A: This differs from person to person. We advise not going below 1200
per day. The meal plans in this program range from 1200-1800
calories per day.

Q: What about juice storage?
A: If you are juicing with a centrifugal juice then drink your fresh juice
immediately. If you are using a cold pressed juicer it is possible to
store excess for later that day or the following day. This will help
ensure you to get the most potent juice possible for at least one
serving. Some nutrients are susceptible to being degraded or broken
down by exposure to heat, light and air (oxygen).

Freezing is also an option but less desirable than refrigeration


If you do freeze your juice do it immediately after juicing. Thaw in the
refrigerator and drink within 7-10 days of freezing.
Q:Should I buy organic produce?
A:We recommend selecting locally grown and seasonal produce
whenever possible. We suggest purchasing organic produce for the
items with the highest levels of pesticides. The fruits and vegetables
with the highest levels of pesticides are:

Heat: Reduces many B vitamins, Vitamins C and E


Light: Lowers Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), B1 (thiamin), B6, Folate, Vitamins

Some additional tips:


Store for 24-48 hours in the fridge. (72 hours is maximum time suggested)
If in an airtight container, it is adviseable to use BPA-free plastic.
Seal tightly and fill to the top to prevent oxygen from getting in.
In a dark, cool environment away from heat and light.
Bring a cooler along if youll be away from a fridge.
Dont leave your juice in the car especially on either a really hot or
really cold day.

If you purchase conventional (non-organic) produce, we recommend


peeling your citrus fruits, such as your lemons and limes, before
juicing. We also suggest using a washing solution for conventional
produce (see recipe in the front of book).
