The purpose of our group for the design project was to come up with a product that all of us are familiar. This is why we thought that we could design a minibar with a glass door. We made all of our measurements with a meter stick. The part that we faced with difficulties during measuring was the dimensions of the spiral. In NX, we can create a perfect spiral but actually in industry the spiral tubes are made by bending with heat. So the connections we create between the tubes are not %100 accurate. The parts we created in NX are interior part, the cover of the interior part, the switch inside the interior part, boiler, hinges, spiral aggregate, door, glass part of the door, isolator unit and the condenser. First, we began with interior part, we accurately drew the shelf spaces in order to fit our shelf at the end, during the assembly. The condenser part was also difficult, we sketched the plate from the side view then using the pattern feature, we created 10 of them with 1 cm spaces, then we used pattern feature with 2 cm space for the eleventh plate. Then again we used 1 cm spaces with the pattern feature. Then we located the cylinder tube that we should extrude through all the plates and connected that tube with another cylinder tube using the concentric feature of the assembly. Isolator unit was an easy part to create; we sketched a circle and extruded it to create a simple cylinder. Drawing the door was more complex, we used a new feature that we learned transparency to show the glass part and we used the distance feature in the assembly to combine the door, glass and door handle. While drawing the electric box, we sketched it from the side view and subtracted the little parts. The drawing of the boiler was difficult because the assembly needed to be %100 accurate to fit to the back of the minibar, the tubes that are connected to the boiler both go inside of the spiral aggregate and the condenser. For the hinge, we made an extrusion from the top view and then subtracted a piece for the pin that connects it to the door. Indisputably, the hardest part was to draw the spiral aggregate. We learned a new and a hard to use feature called sweep while connecting the spiral tubes. It was impossible to draw the spiral aggregate %100 accurately as its real because in industry, workers use heat to bend and connect the tubes. Also, in order to show the incline in the spiral, we created another datum plane with the actual angle. After all our parts are finished, we used align & touch, concentric and distance feature in order to assemble. All in all, our minibar project showed us the difficulties that we can face while drawing an industrial product. We learned how to get dimensions, share the group work and new features in NX such as transparency and sweep.
