CONTROLS

Enter/Exit EDIT MODE

Hold down the Preset knob until the screens change.

Tempo Adjustment
In either mode, use the Footswitch to tap in your
desired tempo. The Tempo knob can be used to adjust
the BPM more precisely.

Next/Previous Preset
Thank you for purchasing our Quartz Timer, syncing
your pedals is about to get a whole lot easier!
Whether your pedal accepts a Normally Open tap
signal, Normally Closed tap signal, or MIDI Clock, the
Quartz Timer can sync them to a specified BPM. It can
also act as a MIDI controller by sending program
changes. Not only can it generate these signals, but it
can receive MIDI Clock and MIDI Program Changes,
enabling it to fit right in with your favourite MIDI
Controller.
The pedal has 100 presets available. Each preset saves
3 things:
- Tempo
- Tap division (1/4, 1/8, Dotted 1/8, Triplet)
- 12 character name
To make these presets more useable in a live situation,
a Setlist is used. The Setlist can hold anywhere
between 1 and 100 presets, in any order.
Therefore the pedal has two main modes:
LIVE MODE - displays only the presets that are in the
Setlist. Presets can be added in any order.
EDIT MODE - displays all 100 presets in order. No
tempo changes will be sent out in this mode.

In LIVE MODE hold down the Footswitch to increment

the preset. Keep holding it down to scroll through the
presets at a faster rate.
In LIVE MODE and EDIT MODE use the Preset knob to
increase or decrease the preset number. In EDIT MODE
all 100 presets will be visible, but in LIVE MODE only
those presets that are in the Setlist will be visible.

Fast Scrolling
In both modes and for both knobs, hold down the knob
while rotating. This will scroll through the tempo or
presets 10 at a time.

Change Tap Division

In LIVE MODE, double click the Tempo knob quickly,
this will display the current Tap Division. Turn the
Tempo knob to change the Tap Division. Hold down
the Tempo knob to save and exit.

Edit Preset Name

In LIVE MODE, double click the Preset knob quickly,
this will show the Preset's name on the Preset Screen
and the available characters on the Tempo Screen.
There are two, six letter words available to name each
preset. When they are both empty the Preset will
default to the preset number.
Turn the Preset knob to cycle through the available
characters. Click the Preset knob to add the character
to the name.
Click the Tempo Knob to backspace.
Hold down the Tempo knob to save and exit.

Add/Remove Preset to/from Setlist

In EDIT MODE, click the Preset knob to add or remove
a preset from the Setlist. A white outline around the
preset indicates the preset is already in the Setlist.
Presets are added to the Setlist in the order they are
clicked.
Adding a preset to a setlist of 100 presets will result in
a setlist containing only the preset that was just
added.
Removing a preset from the middle of the Setlist will
mean the following preset will take its place.
Removing the only preset in a setlist will result in the
setlist being reset (see next).

Reset Setlist
In EDIT MODE, hold down the Footswitch. This will
reset the Setlist so that it contains all 100 presets.
Names and tempos are preserved.
Note: Adding 1 preset to a setlist of 100 will result in a
setlist containing only the 1 preset.

Save Preset
In either mode, hold down the Tempo Knob until the
screen changes.

Library Reset
While in the MENU, hold down the footswitch for 7
seconds until it reads "library reset". Wait until the
screens change and it switches back to Live Mode. This
will erase all the names and tempos given to the
presets.

Menu
Hold down both Preset knob and Tempo knob until the
Menu appears.
Rotate the Preset knob to scroll through the menu
items.
Rotate the Tempo knob to modify the values of each
item.
Hold down both Preset knob and Tempo knob to save
and exit.

MIDI

AUXILIARY TAP OUTPUTS

Menu

MIDI Clock is used to sync MIDI capable pedals

through the MIDI OUT socket. If the option is enabled
in the menu, it is transferred at all times while in LIVE
MODE.

SEND CLOCK

The Quartz can pass all MIDI messages (including

clock) straight through the pedal so it can be placed
anywhere in the chain. MIDI THRU is enabled or
disabled from within the menu.
If you are sending MIDI CLOCK to the Quartz from
another device be sure to only enable either MIDI
THRU or MIDI CLOCK. If both are enabled the Quartz
will be sending an inaccurate clock as it will be sending
2 clock signals at once.
For receiving MIDI Clock, there is a threshold that is
selectable within the menu. This tells the Quartz when
to listen for a change in the tempo via MIDI. Some
Clock sources are unstable and jump around quite
badly, this option allows you to ignore small jumps in
tempo if needed. If you have a good solid Clock source,
keep the threshold set to 1, if you have a bad, varying
Clock source, increase the threshold until you find a
good value for your purpose.
E.g. if MIDI THRESH is set to 5, the Quartz will ignore
any BPM changes that are less than 5 BPM difference.
Set to 1 it will change with any BPM change.
It will accept program change messages on MIDI
channel 1 - 16. Just select which channel you would
like the Quartz to listen to in the menu. Likewise it can
send program changes on these channels and this
channel is also selectable within the menu.
Program changes will only be received whilst in LIVE
MODE and the program change number will
correspond to the Setlist number, not the preset
number.
E.g. a MIDI controller sends out a Program Change
message with a value of 7. The Quartz will change to
the 7th preset in the Setlist, which is not necessarily
preset number 7.

On the inside of the

pedal is a DIP switch
with 4 switches. Each
switch is linked to one
auxiliary tap output. The
switches are numbered
and the outputs are
numbered accordingly.
In the up position the
output will be Normally
Open (NO), in the down
position the output will
be Normally Closed
(NC). The number of
times the pedal clicks is
selectable within the
menu. In the menu you can also select how long the
latch stays open by changing the click length. This is in
case your pedal needs a longer tap length.

Tap Divisions
Only one of the 4 auxiliary tap outputs is able to send
your specified tap division (1/4, 1/8, dotted 1/8,
triplets).
This output is identified by the signature
notes printed on the face of the pedal. The
other 3 outputs will always send 1/4 notes.

Choose whether to generate and send MIDI Clock or

not.

PROG CHANGE
Choose whether to generate and send MIDI Program
Change Messages or not.

MIDI THRU
Choose whether to pass through all MIDI messages
including Clock that the Quartz receives.

NUM OF CLICKS
Choose how many times you would like the Quartz to
click its Auxiliary Tap Outputs.

CLICK LENGTH
Choose how long the Auxiliary Tap Outputs stay
engaged. Some pedals may require the signal to be
engaged longer or shorter to be received accurately.

MIDI CH IN
Choose the MIDI channel to receive program changes.

MIDI CH OUT
Choose the MIDI channel to send program changes.

MIDI BPM THRESH

Choose the threshold at which to listen to MIDI Clock.

RECEIVE CLOCK
Choose whether to receive MIDI Clock or not.
