Introduction
Providing students a safe and effective classroom environment is essential. In order to
develop this environment, I will create and maintain a classroom management plan. This plan
will include a theme, rules, consequences, and protocols.

I want my classroom to be a place where students look forward to attending. Students will build
each other up and give each other positive encouragement. We will have class in multiple
locations like the gym, classroom, and outside areas. Each environment will be filled with
positive energy and students will enjoy physical education.

Establishing Rules
Every classroom needs rules and protocols. I will establish my rules on the first day of class and
gym routines will be established the first class period we are in the gym. I will have a class
discussion about what they think some good rules would be to keep class fun and safe. Allowing
the students to help make rules allows for class participation and lets students feel involved. Rule
making and consequences are a crucial part of keeping the class running efficiently. Classroom
protocols apply to each day of class throughout the year so students know what to do each day.
During the first week of school I will provide examples of what I dont want students to do and
acceptable behaviors. I will also walk them through our classroom routines and answer any
questions they may have.

Rules/Expectations
Rule #1: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Rule #2: Always use HCRR (Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility)
Rule #3: Try your best.
Rule #4: Wear appropriate clothing.
Rule #5: Have fun!

Consequences
The consequences for breaking my rules will be known by all my students and I will make sure
that I am fair to each student when dealing with rule breaking. I will also make sure that I think
about why the student did what he/she did. The teacher is allowed to modify the consequences
depending on the severity of the action.

1st Offense
Student will receive a verbal warning and be notified what the desired behavior for he/she is.
2nd Offense
Student will sit out until he/she can tell me what the issue was and what he/she is going to do to
fix it. While the student is sitting out they will do a worksheet on the activity that we are doing in
class.
3rd Offense
Student will be sent to the office.

Clothing issues
If a child forgets his or her clothes I will have a box of clothes that he/she can choose from. If
there are no clothes in the box, then the person who is not dressed appropriately will be assigned
a worksheet on a topic similar to the content being taught.

Routines
Routines are very important in developing a learning environment for students. My routines will
be consistent for every class and my student will know what to do from the time they enter the
gym until the time they leave the gym.

Starting/Stopping
Stopping activities will be done in different way depending on the environment. If the class is in
the gym I will yell one, two, three, eyes on me. The students will then yell one, two, eyes on
you. As soon as they yell back they are to stop whatever they are doing and give me their full
attention. If the class is outside I will blow the whistle, signally that I need their attention. To
start activities I will either yell go or blow my whistle.

Entering/Leaving
Elementary- Students will change shoes (if not done in the classroom). After that they will go to
their assigned spot of the gym where they will sit and wait for instruction. When leaving the
gym, I will have them get a drink of water and then line up at the door.
Secondary- Students will get dressed in the locker room. After that they will come out to the gym
and walk around the track as Im taking attendance. I will then have the class gather and I will go
over what we are doing in class. When leaving the students will get changed, and then sit in the
bleachers until the bell rings.

Equipment
I will have all necessary equipment ready before each class period. They equipment will be setup
in the gym or out on the field. Equipment should be left alone until the students are instructed to
use if. When the class is over, the equipment will be left in the same spot if there is another class
afterward. The last class of the day will help me pick up the equipment when the period is over.

Partners and Groups

In activities where partners and groups are necessary, I will be in charge of splitting the students
up. The students will line up on the baseline, and I will number them off. I can change up
teams/groups if they are unfair. I will never have team captains pick teams because it can hurt
students feelings and cause a bad learning environment.

Water Breaks
Students are encouraged to drink lots of water in my class. They are free to go to the water
fountain, as long as it does not disrupt the class. I will also have built in water breaks for the
class. It is also a great idea for students to bring their own water bottles to class.

Bathroom Use
If a student needs to use the bathroom, all they have to do is ask me. If a student is feeling sick
they can go straight to the bathroom without asking. If using the bathroom becomes a problem,
then only one student will be able to go at a time. If we are outside for class, adjustments will be
made to the bathroom policy.

Other Routines
Accidents/Injuries- If a student is injured in class, I will have a first aid kit on hand and be able
to take care of any minor injuries. In the event of a serious injury, I will call the school nurse or
the office. An injury report will be completed and on file in the office within 24 hours.

Maintain
Consistency

It is very important to set the tone for classes at the start of the year. Students need to understand
the rules and protocols for a positive learning environment to exist. I will demonstrate and go
over these rules on the first day of class and reinforce them throughout the year. Making sure that
students have a positive experience is very important to me.

Describe and Demonstrate

The first day of class I will go over my rules and regulations in depth and demonstrate to my
students the importance of following the rules to maintain a safe and fun environment.

Practice
My students will follow the rules and protocols every day they are in my classroom. The rules
and protocols will be clearly explained on the first day of school so students can begin practicing
right away. I will work to remind and reinforce rules and protocols on a daily basis

Provide Feedback
To make sure that students are getting the most out of my class, I will give students constructive
feedback regularly. When giving feedback, I will make sure to describe the desired behavior. I
think it is also important to try and be positive to students. For example, in a hockey unit I might
say, Way to work hard, but you need to keep your stick down.

Setting Performance Standards

My students will know what is desired based on the rules and routines of the class and also on
feedback. I will always stress the importance of listening to me and following my rules.

Maintain Consistency
It is very important to maintain consistency throughout the year. Staying consistent with
classroom management, rules, protocols, and grading allows for students to know what to expect
for the class.
