The Revolutionary War Assignment

Goal

Create a guide to the American Revolutionary War for middle school students. It
should explain the causes, course, and results of the conflict.

Instructions
1) Work solo or get a partner. If you choose to work with a partner, please indicate
which sections you were responsible for.
2) Access the website Liberty the American Revolution and explore!

3) Once youve investigated the site a little bit you can start working on your actual
project. All of the information you will need can be found on the PBS site. You can,
however, use other sources for your research. If you do, ensure that they are
reliable sources and include them in a bibliography at the end of your guide. The
project must have the following components:
a. Cover Page
i. Title, authors, appropriate image
ii. Table of content s indicate which person did which section.
b. Timeline
i. Analyze the time timeline and select the 6 events that you think are the
most important for your students to know.
ii. Using these events, create your own timeline of the revolution.
iii. For each entry you must do three things:
1. Include the name of the event, date, and year.
2. Briefly explain what happened.
3. Explain why it was an important event to the history of the
Revolution.
iv. The timeline should include some appropriate images.
c. Military History of the Revolution
i. Do some research using the Military
Perspectives section.
ii. Create a chart outlining some of the main
aspects of each army and the differences
between them.
iii. Include a few appropriate images.
d. Highlight a Person

i. Do a short biography of one of the key figures of the Revolution.


Include his or her vitals, as well as a description of their role in the
history of the Revolution and the USA.
ii. Include a picture
e. Highlight an Event
i. Choose one of the events from the Chronicle of the Revolution
section and do some research.
ii. Describe what happened and why it was so important. Include specific
references to the chronicle.
iii. Include an image

Cover Page (all requirements fulfilled)

Timeline (all requirements fulfilled events included are the most relevant - explanation is
historically accurate with sufficient detail and analysis of importance)

Sections C,D,E (all requirements fulfilled writing is historically accurate, includes specific
references to the sources, has appropriate detail, and would help a middle school student
