Answers Study Questions
Do the responses actually engage with the question or is this some general writi
ng about the
theory or case that doesn t actually apply to the question that was set?
o If you re not sure what you think yet, writing is a good way to figure out what
you
know and don t know. That s right, sometimes we write in order to understand
things. As we write and then revise, ideas will start to crystalise and argument
s will
take shape.
o So if you are stuck, it can be helpful to do some general pre-writing that you w
ill
then throw away or put into an appendix. This draft writing helps you to figure
out
what you know. Be sure to allow time for revision so that your writing clearly
engages with the questions.
Is it clear what your personal opinion is for each question?
o Although you may be more comfortable using the passive voice, I would like you
to
try out the first person I voice for these assignments. This is because I would li
ke
you to get the credit for your good ideas.
Integration and Presentation of Case Data; and Citation Protocols
Lack of citations and quotes
o Properly acknowledging your sources is key in academic writing. This has be to
be
done in-text (e.g. author, date: page number) and in the bibliography, following
the
APA protocol as requested for this individual assignment.
o Citations and quotes help to demonstrate that you are engaging with the case(s
).
You are showing your evidence, which is how you can gain high marks on this fact
or
in the marking rubric.
Problem of writing that is a bit loose, speaking too generally.
o If you make general points, it is good to follow this with specific details to
demonstrate that you have read and understood the case.
o It helps to back up your points with this evidence, such as quotations from th
e case,
numbers, who did what, etc.
o These details also make it more interesting to read your papers. A quotation f
rom
the case, such as a point made by the CEO, can provide evidence for your answer,
as
well as variety in your writing.
Demonstration of Knowledge of Theories / Models from Lecture & Assigned Reading
Lack of citations and quotes
o Proper in-text citations (e.g. author, date: page)
o Citations and quotes help to demonstrate that you are engaging with the theory
,
allowing us to follow up. For example, if you make an interesting point, I might
want to
go back to the article and review the author s argument.

Lack of engagement with theories / models

o Response might put in a citation, but does not demonstrate understanding of th
e
theory/model, as evidenced by, for example, a definition or use of key terms.
o It is helpful if key terms are distinguished, using either quote marks or ital
ics:
e.g. key term or key term (Author, date).
