PROFILE:

An economics graduate, keen to find a position in the financial sector. An excellent

communicator, both spoken and written, highly numerate and analytically minded. I feel that I
have the necessary academic and problem solving skills required to succeed in finance as well
as soft skills gained from relevant work experience, part time work and travel.

EDUCATION:

2006-2009 Bsc.(hons) 2:1 Economics. Liverpool John Moores University

analysis, theory of the firm and strategy

complex data.

UCAS
2000-2002 3 A2 levels: Mathematics, Combined English and Physics Points

WORK EXPERIENCE:

I recently completed a six month contract working with St. Helens Chamber of Commerce and
St. Helens Metropolitan Borough Council as a graduate researcher. Three weeks were spent
training with the Chamber on subjects including project management and accounting, the
remainder was spent with the councils cleansing department. This was an interesting and varied
placement and I was able to have a hands on role very early on. I assisted with the
implementation of the Carbon Reduction Commitment, doing preliminary research and
collating information to be passed on to senior managers. I also prepared a report detailing the
bulky waste collection service and comparing it to those provided by other local authorities in
neighbouring areas with the intention of making substantial budget savings.

Previously, I have worked on various sites as a security officer on both a part time and full time
basis in order to support my living costs while studying. Working as a security officer, often on
night shifts and alone, allowed me to develop self discipline and confidence.

SKILLS:

Computing: Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite. Minitab statistical software. Basic web
authoring. Regular computer user.
Basic French

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Travelled extensively in 2004 on a round the world ticket. This was a life changing experience
in terms of the sights I saw and the people I met. Some of the lessons I learned from this
journey were the value of planning ahead and financial responsibility.
Academically, my strengths generally lie in languages and arts, although I very much enjoy the
sciences also. I achieved a mark of 100% in my A2 level Combined English exam.
I like to challenge myself academically and physically. I chose primarily science based A
Levels for this reason. In 2006 I overcame a long standing fear of heights by doing the highest
bungee jump in Europe from a bridge into the Gorges du Verdon.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:

I enjoy travelling and try to visit as many new places as I can when I get the opportunity. I play
the guitar and have a diverse taste in literature from the classics to contemporary. Some of my
favourite authors include: J.G. Ballard, Iain Banks, J.M.Coetzee and Graham Greene. I enjoy
card games and am currently learning bridge. I have been a keen amateur photographer since
the age of 12 and I operate my own darkroom. I have a fondness for country walks and
occasionally hike in the Lake District.
