-This week in ELA, we will begin our Lessons from the
Holocaust learning groups. The students will begin rotating through centers with a small group of their peers. They will read and analyze different texts that help them learn lessons of perseverance and courage! They will make a claim to help them answer the Focus Question: What lessons can be learned from studying the Holocaust? Then, they will use the strategies and skills I have modeled in class to help them locate evidence within each text to help support their claims. This is a unit study and will continue for the next two weeks. We will have a summative essay on 10/14/16 at the end of the unit to answer the Focus Question.
*Homework: No Homework this week! I would like for
students to focus on studying their multiplication facts. I will be sending home a resource sheet with iPad apps and websites to help students study in a fun way!
-Identifying the structure of a text helps the reader understand
the authors purpose for writing. The students will use what they learned about text features to help them identify the structure of different informational texts this week in small group. We will then discuss how the structure of a text helps us better understand the central idea of the information presented.
