Spanish 3AB

The teachers, administration and staff of Hamilton High School believe in the equal
worth and dignity of all Hamilton students and are committed to educate them to the
maximum potential. We are guided by our vision of a twenty-first century students, a

Note: Students are required to cover their textbook and bring it to


class every time we meet. Every time a student doesnt bring his or
her book points will be deducted automatically.

(National Textbook Company)

Black or blue pen, for all written assignments; in addition a red pen for exams; in

A folder where they can keep all hand outs
Highlighters for when they take their notes.

Course Descriptions

Course Syllabus

Prerequisite: Spanish 1AB and Spanish 2AB


Purpose of the Course
The Spanish language is spoken by a variety of people around the world as well as in
many parts of the United States, particularly in the southwest and southern California,
Thus, what you learn in this class may well be useful in the future to increase
employment opportunities, help you understand other cultures, and help you enhance
language skills.
Course as Requirement for Graduation/College: This course is an elective the for high
school graduation and is the third year in a three-year sequence. It also satisfy the elective
year of foreign language for college admission.
Skills to be taught:
Improve the listening, speaking, reading, writing, cultural awareness and critical thinking
of the student.
1. Listening comprehension will take place through observation,
feedback and comprehension tests.
2. Speaking will take place through teacher evaluation of student oral
presentation and group interaction.
3. Reading will take place through the use of content and critical
evaluation questions in Spanish.
4. Writing will take place through evaluation of student produced
lists, written message, sentences, paragraphs, letters and
compositions.
5. Cultural Awareness will take place through students comparing
and contrasting customs, personal interactions, sharing, projects,
and direct testing on cultural material.
Course Objective: Besides the skills to be taught, --the class will increase the students
concept of self-awareness of the importance of their linguistic and cultural heritage
within a pluralistic contemporary American society. --Stress the vocational opportunities
available for proficient in both English and Spanish.
Five national standards for the study of a foreign language
This course incorporates fully the five national standards that are use in the study of a
language other than English.

Communication: To be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in the


target language. (Standard 1.1-1.2)

Cultures: Acquired knowledge of their culture and other cultures within the
Hispanic community and also be able to appreciate the richness of these
cultures. (Standard 2.1-2.2)
Connections: Acquired the language through interdisciplinary subjects and be
able to compare and contrast both language and culture. (Standard 3.1-3.2)
Comparisons: Acquired a more in depth understanding of the language
through comparisons of both culture and language itself in relationship to the
English language and the American culture. (Standard 4.1-4.2)
Community: To become a life long learner of the language and also be able
to participate in a multicultural and multilingual society within their place of
origin and within the world. (Standard 5.1-5.2)
Course Objectives:

This Advanced course is structured for the student, who has completed Span 1AB,
and Span 2AB.
This course will offer students an opportunity to enhance their communicative
skills in Spanish while continuing to develop awareness and appreciation of
Latin- America and Iberian Cultures.
Students will function at the advanced writing, reading, listening and Speaking
in the classroom

Course Guidelines
Grading, Attendance, Class Participation and Written Assignments Expectations,
Classroom Rules and Consequences.
To receive an A for this course:
Assignments must be turned in as scheduled.
Assignments must be completed as directed.
Assignments are to be turned in containing the following information: your name,
course title, period, assignment title, and date the assignment was given.
Be on time and attend nearly all class meetings.
Grading

Assignments are graded on content, timeliness, and neatness


Assignments are graded based on: credit 10pts, partial credit 7 pts., and no credit
0pts.
Final class grades will reflect a total of all quizzes, chapter exams, a
comprehensive exam (both oral and written), assignments/projects, timeliness of
submission, oral participation and attendance.

Final Grades are based on percentage of total points as follows:


A-100-90%
B-89-80%
C-79-70%
D-69%-60%

Make-up for quizzes will be EVERY TUESDAY during lunch. It is a students


responsibility to make up the quiz within a week from when it was given, otherwise it
will be a zero with no possibility to make it up.
There is make-up of unit tests, but it is a different test.
Important Note: NO EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGMENTS will be given to make up
missed work or poor test grades. Opportunities for extras credit may arise periodically,
will be offer to the entire class and should not be relied upon to significantly improve
your grade.
Class Participation Expectations
Students are expected to bring all their materials daily.
Students are expected to be on task all the time.
Students are expected to be in their seats be the time the tardy bell rings.

Talking while teacher is talking will not be tolerated.

I entered the classroom calmly and quietly.


I sat in my assigned seat, and if a seat was not assigned I sat where I could be
most successful and productive.
I had all my supplies with me, including computer, paper, pen or pencil (all
materials daily for the class).
I was working silently when the bell rang, and for the first 10 minutes of class or
until given another assignment.
I had my homework ready to turn in before the bell rang.
I followed the instructions on the board, understood todays assignment and
objective and took note on upcoming homework or quizzes.
I put my phone and earphones away, and did not eat or have candy, food or drinks
open in class.
I raised my hand and WAITED to be called on before I spoke or got up.
I gave my complete attention to my teacher and classmates.
I refrained from side conversations.
I worked silently in my seat when working alone.
I spoke in a quiet whisper voice when working in pairs or groups.
I kept my desk area and classroom floor clean.
I wanted to throw away my trash away until after class.
I waited to be excused by the teacher when the bell rang.

Written Assignments Expectations


Students must have all work completed before turning it in
Homework must be neatly label and dated
If student is absent for any reason he/she is responsible to get the assignments
from a classmate and they can check schoolloop.com for what was done in class
and for what the homework will be.
Classroom Rules and Consequences
Yankee code of conduct
Rule: No drinking, eating, & chewing gum in class
(Only water will be permitted)
Consequences: 1st verbal warning; 2nd clean the classroom floor; 3rd U mark and
a call home.

Rule: Report to class in a timely manner with all Necessary materials.


Consequences: Tardy room, detention and call home, excessive tardiness or
lacking material will result in U mark.

Rule: Disruptive or willfully defiant behavior will not be tolerated.


Consequences: Automatic U Mark. Referral to Deans office and a call home.

Rule: Students will be on task all the time.


Consequences: Students constantly caught off task will receive an automatic U
mark

Rule: No audio media (Including telephones) allow in class


Consequences: 1st verbal warning, 2nd Items not allow in class will be confiscated
and send to the deans office.

Rule: Absolutely no talking when teacher is talking.


Consequences: 1st verbal warning; 2nd 30 min. detention and a parent call; 3rd 1 hr.
detention and automatic U mark.
Note: Detention will be assigned when student fails to do his/ her homework
or doesnt bring his/ her books to class. Assigned times will be given by
teacher. A clear record available to parents will be on file.

Restroom passes: Passes must be filled out completely before student leaves
the room.

they can only be used in class with the teachers
permission. Teacher will ask students to bring their
computers to class for online activities on certain dates.
