Course Description:
The objective of this course is to provide a conceptual and practical
knowledge of techniques for advanced quality control. The course contents
include Introduction to advanced quality control and improvement concepts,
Fundamentals of statistical methods and theoretical basis for quality control
methods, Advanced and newly developed quality control and improvement
methods such as modified acceptance charts, multiple stream process
control, control charts with adaptive sampling and engineering process
control for quality, International standards of acceptance sampling, Economic
design and implications of quality control and improvement procedures.
Experimental designs for quality improvement. This is an exciting topic with
wide applications in many management and industrial spheres of endeavor.
It is expected that this course will help to explore many creative and
interesting applications of these topics wherever they might surface.

Student Learning Outcomes:

After successfully completing the course, students should be able to do the

following:
1. Understand the philosophy and basic concepts of quality improvement.
2. Describe the DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve, and
control).
3. Demonstrate the ability to use the methods of statistical process
control.
4. Demonstrate the ability to design, use, and interpret control charts for
variables.
5. Demonstrate the ability to design, use, and interpret control charts for
attributes.
6. Perform analysis of process capability and measurement system
capability.
7. Design, use, and interpret exponentially weighted moving average and
moving average control charts.
8. Understanding of quality standards and their implementation.
