Unit 4 Assignment 1

Constraints for advert

When making the advert I will have to consider the constraints about
making the video including the content in the video e.g. what music is in
the video and if it is copyrighted etc.
I will also have to make sure I find a place to film that hasnt gotten any
filming restrictions e.g. places where filming isnt permitted. Also I have to
make sure I dont film anyone else if filming in public. The main way to
avoid most of these things is to look up where I am going to film the
advert before I go to film to ensure I am allowed to film, also I will check to
see if the area is clear of any people before filming so I dont get any one
in the video.
Time:
It wont take too long to film the advert, but I will film the video and music
in one session to not waste time on it, I will also try and edit the footage in
as little time as possible to save from wasting time, Im not going to edit
the footage too much so it doesnt look over the top.

Cost:
Before filming the advert, I will buy a few items to film
with, this includes: black contacts and other clothing
accessories to make sure I match the gothic style of the
advert I am aiming for. To the right is an image of the
black contacts I am going to buy. These will cost 7.99.
To air the advert, it could cost as little as 2,000 and up to 1,000,000 for
advert time on the BBC, so the advert will be shown off peak time and will
cost 6,200 to broadcast the advert on several different ITV/BBC channels
over the UK, this is the cheapest pack which airs the advert in the
morning, to air a few hours later costs 32,320 and later in the day costs
51,320, around 21:30 costs 60,390 and around 23:00/midnight costs
11,110.

Unit 4 Assignment 1

Personnel:
Due to the advert being small I will be the only person in the advert, if
anyone else is in the advert they will be voluntary they would not be
paid and there will be no public in the advert as I am going to wait until
there isnt anyone around before filming.
Resources:
Due to this advert being small I will only need camera/recorder and some
other assets such as the boots being advertised and some other items e.g.
contact lenses etc. to look suitable for the theme of the advert.
Legal and ethical considerations:
Legal and ethical wont be too much for this advert as it is only small, to
make sure the advert is legal I will contact the land owner where I am
filming to ensure I am able to film where I want to, also I am going to
record/play the background music myself so that I wont run into any
copyright laws, I will also ensure that no public is filmed or put in the
advert to ensure I am not going to be sued for not getting permission to
have people in the advert.
Privacy:
Privacy is very similar to confidentiality, it is keeping information away
from certain people, information like identity etc. The definition of privacy
differs in different countries though, but they all share the common parts
of privacy, theorist Edwin Lawrance Godkin said nothing is better worthy
of legal protection than private life, or, in other words, the right of every
man to keep his affairs to himself, and to decide for himself to what extent
they shall be the subject of public observation and discussion. Meaning
that people should be able to keep their personal life to themselves.

Libel law:

Unit 4 Assignment 1

Libel law basically means to damage someones reputation with writing or

images to the public, this can be through exposing people to public
hatred, contempt of ridicule etc. Libel is writing something false against
someone to damage their reputation and then releasing it, an example of
this would be if someone wrote an online blog and wrote incorrect facts
about other people causing damage to their reputation as it is libel.
Liable means to say or write something that isnt true to damage
someone elses reputation, an example of this is someone blogging or
posting a statement taking about someone else trying to insult them, this
is liable because it will damage the other persons reputation. Libel
exposes people to public hatred, damage to his/her business/profession
and can cause the person to be ridiculed.

Race discrimination:
In modern society, no one is discriminated for their race, unfortunately
there are people that do not think like this, to stop racist people
discriminating others based on their race there is a law in place ethical
race law. An example of this is applying for a job, two people off different
races, and the one with less qualifications gets the job because he/she is a
different race to the other applicant.

Data protection:
Data protection is a law protecting peoples personal data, this act was
started in 1998 and is used to protect peoples personal data so it cannot
be stolen or other people cannot use others data as their own, this is
similar to copyrights and patents as once someone creates work on
computers it is their property and the data protection act protects it from
being used by others, an example of this is someones blog or website
being copied which isnt allowed due to the data protection act, without it
people can pass off other peoples work as their own without crediting the
creator. In my college work I keep a sources document for all of my work
so I can credit the creator of any image or website I visit to gather
secondary data from.
Copyright:
The copy right law was passed in 1988, this was created/made so that
other people couldnt copy someone elses work and use it as their own.

Unit 4 Assignment 1

This was made to stop people stealing work, whoever makes the work, for
example a band making a new album have it copy righted so that people
cant take the album and use it elsewhere as their own work. In the UK all
work is automatically copy righted, meaning people dont have to file for a
copy right, in other countries, they will have to get a copy right or patent
on their work, for example from the patent office, or you could go online
and file one, this is an example website:
https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/intellectual-property-office.
By using an exact copy of someone elses work it will be breaking the
copy right laws (and the law) meaning you could be prosecuted, taken to
court, fined or worse, this can all be avoided by not stealing other peoples
work. The only way you can use other peoples work is if you ask
permission from the owner of the work or agree to pay them royalties, this
is common for people buying the rights to use certain music tracks.
