Charges and Remissions Policy
Rationale
This Charging and Remission Policy informs staff and parents about charging for Academy
activities.
This policy conforms to the requirements of The Education Act 1996, sections 449-462 and
sections 2.15 2.19 34 of the Moor End Academies Trust master funding agreement. In
accordance with these guidelines, insert academy name here Moor End Academy will set out
clearly when activities or administration will incur a charge and for whom charges may be
remitted.

Admission to the Academy.

Books, materials, equipment and instruction in connection with the National Curriculum
or Statutory Religious Education taught at the Academy, except where parents have
indicated in advance their wish to purchase the product.

Activities which take place in Academy time, apart from instrumental tuition for individual
students or students in groups outside timetabled music lessons (please see Voluntary
Contributions below).

Voluntary Contributions
The Academy will invite parents and others to make voluntary contributions towards some
academy-time activities and trips to enable Academy funds to go further. Students/children
or parents who do not contribute will not be treated differently from those who do make
contributions.

The Academy will have the right to cancel an activity if there are insufficient voluntary
contributions to make the activity possible.

Charges may be made for:


Academy/PE uniform where this is supplied at the Academy, unless stated otherwise.

Board and lodgings on residential courses (which will not exceed actual cost), except for
Students whose parents are receiving: Income Support; Income-based Jobseekers
Allowance; Support under Part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Action 1999; or Child
Tax Credit (providing they do not also receive Working Tax Credit and have an annual
income, assessed by The Inland Revenue, that does not exceed 16,190. (FY 12/13).

Replacing damaged or lost Academy property caused willfully or negligently by their


children. The Academy may waive liability if the loss or damage was clearly an accident

Single copies of information such as the Academy Prospectus and Policies are provided
free upon request. A charge may be levied on requests for information under the
Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act in accordance with the
Information Commissioners guidance

Activities and transport, which happen outside Academy hours when these activities are
not:
o a necessary part of the National Curriculum;
o part of a syllabus for a prescribed public examination that the student is being
prepared for at the academy; or
o part of religious education.

Examination entry fee(s) if the registered student(s) has not been prepared for the
examination(s) at the Academy.

Entry fees for examinations to which candidates are absent without a valid reason.

Parents who have difficulty meeting any charges should discuss the matter in confidence with
the Principal.

The Academy may permit organisations to charge parents when such an organisation is
acting independently of the Academy, to arrange an activity to take place during Academy
hours and parents want their children to join in the activity.

Any Letting charges levied are devolved to the PPP Provider. or


The academy will make its facilities available to outside users and the community at a charge
of at least
the cost of providing the facilities. The scale of charges will be determined
annually by the Governing Body.
Any charge made in respect of individual students/children will not exceed the actual cost of
providing the activity, divided equally by the number of students/children participating.
Participation in some activities will be on the basis of parental choice and willingness to meet
charges.
Conclusion
This Policy is to be reviewed on an annual basis by the Board of Directors and adopted by the
Governing Body.ors Strategic Finance Subcommittee.
